Did anything contribute more to Bill’s exit than the series of odd WR decisions?
Big cap hit.
I agree - wish they ate it all this year.

The Patricia/Judge experiment might be up there, though it was a delayed reaction, like the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique in Kill Bill.

I don’t see using the draft picks you were allotted as making an effort to improve the team when you had 100 million and didn’t get any better with it.

Why? Cutting after 6/1 saved money. Cutting him before would have meant a $1.9m dead hit, cutting now is a $650k savings.
It's like Zappe...always going to cut him once they drafted 2 at same position.

Subpar drafting for a long stretch, driving away the greatest player to ever play, whiffing on his successor, complete inability to build an offense, a DC moonlighting as an OC...

Convincing Kraft that Brady was done was quite the sales job, but Kraft was stupid to buy in.

I think it was the Patricia/Judge as OC situation that really did him in. I think if not for that, his resume and track record deserved a second shot at getting the QB spot right. He found Brady obviously. Did a good job with Cassell. He was forced to trade Jimmy G but that's a guy he found/developed who was good enough to get a team to a SB (albeit not a great player by any stretch). Heck, he even had a decent record with Newton. Mac Jones wasn't the guy but the way they sabotaged him that that inexplainable coaching duo was the nail in BB's coffin IMO. A guy who did that, you couldn't trust with another young QB.

Not really a factor of if they eat the dead money this year or next. You roll over whatever cap space you don't use. So they can push the dead money to next year and just roll over the cap space to cover. There's no reason not to do that really because why not give yourself access to the cap space now. Fans always want to eat the dead money in the current year because it feels like it's better for the future, but netted with the rollover it makes no difference.

Just to clarify, it doesn't actually save real money. It's just cap gymnastics. The post 6/1 means that the dead money cap charge for what he's already been paid gets pushed off to next year. That gives them access to the cap space now, if they want/need to use it. Any unused cap gets rolled over anyway so it all nets out on a 2-year basis. There's no difference between eating the dead money charge now or pushing it to next year other than now we get to use the cap space this year if we want.

One of the worst signings in patriots history. Good riddance
Bill really didn't have too many bad free agency deals. I remember a stretch with some of those washed up defensive backs like Leigh Bodden, Shawn Springs, and Deltha O'Neal and then that Bengals defensive tackle that never played. Juju though will be hard to top for me though.

Boutte and Tyquan is making the Roster.
Thornton still has world class speed, and a creative OC should be able to get the ball in his hands so he can exploit that. He doesn’t have to be a primary target, he simply needs to be a threat to opposing defenses, and they finally look like they have other WR’s who will get most of the attention from opposing defenses.

Bill didn’t want Juju, he wanted to extend Meyers. Jonathan, Wolf and co overruled him according to Callahan.
Sounds farfetched.

Meyers lost the Raiders game when he tried to throw the ball back to Corky for the last shot offscript. BB sabotaged Corky at every turn because he went crying to people outside the NE organization.

Was this ever verified? Who was the likely source? Not saying its not true.

I thought it was true that Juju was a player BB always liked.

And I believe there was some truth to Meyers outspokeness that had a little something to do with it too.

They only gain about a half million in cap space in 2024, if that, but this does free up an additional $7.5 million in cap space in 2025, where they were already #1 in cap space before this move.

Doing a favor to Juju as he will be able to find a landing spot easily before the season starts. Since his Patriots salary is guaranteed for 2024, whoever he signs with will just give him the veteran minimum so it doesn't really cost them much at all to give him a shot. He's probably better than many teams' WR4 or WR5. I could certainly see a return to KC for vet minimum on a 1 year deal.
Dont the Pats recoup some of JuJus guaranteed 2024 salary if he signs with another team?

I believe that they do and thats another reason to cut him now. Surely a WR will go down for the season and JuJu will get some looks.

At this point I doubt we'll ever get any confirmation beyond "according to Callahan."

Though if there's anything we've learned the last 6ish years is that when those nuggets come out of the building, there's usually something to them.
