Wolf gotta put his Big Boy GM Hat on and find somebody on a bench somewhere who can play LT. They don't have to be Great just better than the current alternatives Maye will be on stretcher before we know it.

That ship has sailed. I cannot believe that there were not any good LTs in the Free Agency period. Tyron Smith? Nope too pricey for the cheapskate Pats I guess. The Pat's pathetic showing in the FA period suggested that they were waiting to get a discount LT on a rookie contract in the draft. They muffed that also so they are stuck with what they have. Just pathetic all around. You cannot have success in the NFL with a turnstile at LT. Their only hope is for a broken-down veteran that is released at the cut-down date and is desperate enough to play for the Patriots instead of retiring.

The screen pass from Drake Maye last night looked better than any short throw Mac Jones made over the last 3 years. Athleticism counts when you're throwing those short touch passes. Many QBs can't do that at all. It took Josh Allen 3 years before he could dump the ball off with touch and accuracy in the flat.

I was glad to see Maye get his feet and body around to throw that.

It does not SEEM like a difficult throw. But then how come so many QBs can't do it? Mac certainly couldn't. And he was always looking downfield anyway. NEVER taking the easy 7 yards in the flat.

It's similar to when we saw Brady do a quick throw to a WR like Edelman because the DB was playing a little too far back. It LOOKS like it should be a simple play and easy yards, yet every time Brady did it Edelman would get 8+ yards, while every time Mac did it the WR would get blown up almost immediately. Because it's not just arm strength (which Mac also didn't have), but putting the ball slightly ahead of the receiver so their momentum is already carrying them forward, and recognizing it fast enough to get the throw off before the DB can react to the receiver sitting down at the beginning of his route.

Not saying Maye is Brady, as a sample size of ONE proves nothing, just that accuracy is about more than hitting deep balls in stride or hitting open guys in the numbers. The precision needed to make timing plays work is crucial.

Exactly

With that much ammunition, the draft was a colossal fail.

It boggles the mind that we couldn't trade up for a viable LT.

But this was also the case in 2022 when they drafted Strange. We let 6 LTs go off the board when we had the 21st pick, and it was clear we were going to take one of them. The Patriots got caught with their pants down and had to trade out of the pick (in fairness, 4 of those 6 LTs are looking like busts, in what may be the biggest busted draft class for tackles in NFL history).

I have no problem with the Patriots taking Christian Gonzalez and Keion White in 2023, since both had very high 1st round grades in the middle of the 1st round (where would the team be without Keion White today?). But an easy argument could be made about taking Mapu over Dawand Jones (even though Jones is a RT and there were huge concerns about his inability to move).

Whatever the measure, it is clear the team has struck out in 2021, 2022 and 2023 in addressing the position.

Trent Brown turned into a big dog and that certainly hurt, but you could never rely on him anyway.

Not sure about that. There's plenty of tape on him already against regular season opponents, that would be more valuable than anything they could see last night. Teams know what they see is what they'll get.

I'll be very surprised if Zappe can fetch a 6th. Teams can just wait till the Pats try to stash him on the PS and they can have him for free if there is any interest out there.
Zappe is in a difficult situation. He was available to all teams last year with no takers, so there seems to be little value in trying to showcase him again. My take is that after getting QB1 and QB2 a series, the coaches dedicated the first half to evaluating other parts of the offense. Zappe being a known commodity was a safe way to do that without risking anything.

Now Florio is comparing Milton to the Brady situation when he became starter.

Someone make it stop!
Milton - Milton - Milton.

It seems to me that the o-line has never really been addressed since Bradys last year, and even in 2019 it wasn't
very good. Scars not here to make chicken salad out chicken **** anymore.

Yeah I wasn’t overly bothered by Maye and Jacoby being one and done. I wasn’t sure they’d play at all.

There’s only 3 preseason games now, in the old days starters all sat in game one. Zappe deserves a good look and the offensive line still has to be determined…I usually don’t deal in absolutes but I’m sure Lowe and Okorafor aren’t the answer.
Maye is raw and needs as many reps as he can get. I noticed opposing mediocre to bad teams doing this during the dynasty years where they'd pull their guys after a drive or so while Brady would be playing an entire half. Last night was a "be careful what you wish" for moment. While I was getting tired of Bill, I knew I had to be careful for what was to come next and this new regime just looks lost. They're going to get a rude awakening week 1 in Cincy.

Carolina look look like they're going to stink again.

I hope Maye plays at least a half against the Eagles.

Things are completely different now, there was five preseason games before this season... now there's three. Maye can get a lot of reps in joint practices and next preseason game with Philly, this will help him a lot more. Hopefully they'll have started fixing the offensive tackle issue this week. Chuks and Lowe are horrid.

Got to coach better, got to execute better...oh wait that was last seasons post game pressers. Sure as hell won't miss those.

I have to assume that Mayo was trying to show off Zappe in the hopes of trading him. Good luck with that.
Zappe is here in case there is an injury to one of the others. I would keep him until the final cutdown and have him play all of Game 3.

Lowe is horrid.
You just figured that out now?

I said this 10 months ago and I was told I was just a Mac shill and there’s nothing wrong with the line at all.
