PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Monday Patriots Training Camp Thread 7/29

My impressions based on what I’ve read…

- Starting OL is better than expected, held up decently against the defense with pads
- 2nd string OL is not so good and gave Maye fits. Depth might be a bit of a concern, though that’s common in the NFL these days
- Javon Baker is real good, and is potentially pushing to start already
- Godchaux is handling his business better than Judon. His agents talking shop while he was on the field in pads makes me think he may get a deal. Barmore’s absence makes Godchaux more important now too
- Judon’s stuff today makes me feel the opposite. He will either end his “hold in” shortly or be traded soon. Love the guy but he’s starting to become a distraction
- Overall still feel better about the team than I did before today, mainly due to the offense. The starting OL did better than I expected and the WRs are also looking solid. The running game also popped off. We will see how it all looks in preseason

Javon Baker really wants to make a name for himself.

The kid is making a hard push for a spot in camp with plays like that.

He should have not been allowed on the field, showing up the coach and organization a little bit. This "holding in" is distractive BS. Either practice or sit out.
This is an example of contract negotiations in the modern NFL. Judon was making a scene on purpose, no different than Godchaux griping in his presser yesterday.. and magically his agent was at camp today.

I said Godchaux had leverage weeks ago, what is it now with Barmore out?

Judon is pushing for a deal or a trade, he has to make a stink. This is what the collective bargaining agreement has led to. Can’t hate the player, hate the game.

Day 5 training camp recap.

Judon still not participating. Is this a health thing or a contract issue?

Patriots OL still having issues getting on the same page. A LOT of pre-snap penalties.

Via Mike Reiss.

We should be playing for 2026 and the new coaching staff.
Not sure what this means, you have to play to win to build a winning culture.

We’ll see what the roster looks like in week one, they could make great strides from now to then… or get more bad injury news and get worse.

Too early to say…

This is the worst coaching staff in the nfl. And the owner won’t even spend money. The only way Mayo makes it past 2 years is with a sympathy year 3.
You know this on day 1 of padded practice in TC. Cool

I bet it’s still better coaching than the last couple of years here.

Movin’ the Chains being onsite today was part of Judon’s decision to act out today IMHO. He was scheduled to be with them but that was canned when he pulled his stunts today.

I’ve been on the side of paying him until now, fully cognizant they paid him last year when they didn’t have to. He’s still the best player on the team IMHO, especially with Barmore being out. The only thing I didn’t like so much with him is the way it seemed like his production slowed as the season progressed but I was really hoping to see White emerge and Barmore continue his upward trajectory from last year.

At this point however think this year is a bridge year anyway and they ought to move on, but not until the market improves for the Pats. I expect this to be either after final cuts or into September.

Holy small sample size Batman. They just had their first practice in full pads, maybe wait until the first quarter of the first preseason game before declaring Mayo as the worst coach in the league.
As of now, how can you argue this is the worst coaching staff in the league? Mayo is the least experienced HC maybe ever, and nothing he has said engenders any confidence at all that he is qualified. The coordinators are bad.

I'd just say this about our line, with Onwenu/Sow they'll look good in the run game. With Layden Robinson they looked decent... we also have to temper this with the knowledge Barmore wasn't out there and our defense has little depth at DT behind him. Leverett being signed makes a lot more sense now knowing Jake Andrews wasn't going to be ready by camp. He might make the team by default if Jake doesn't come back to compete soon.

They'll need one of the backup DT's (Trysten Hill, Josiah Bronson, Sam Roberts) to step up into more of a starter role. If it doesn't happen they'll be scanning the waiver wire or trade block looking for DT help.

They should sign a second UFL DT right now, Carlos Davis brother of Khalil Davis, he played really well in the minor leagues... I don't know why he wasn't brought in already.

This team has no chance to win the next 2 years so should be planing to win with the next coach after this experiment is over. They refuse to spend money on players and assembled a horrible coaching staff.
