destined?

**** that. He has to work for it, He has to earn it.

"Destiny" is just pie in the sky BS.
FFS, thank you. Starting to sound like a Jets board with all the glorification of an unproven player. Let the kid go through TC, preseason games, and a few regular season games before you say '15 year starter, in the HOF.....'

@sb1

Just thought I'd mention for the sake of argument. Curran mentioned on WEEI that Drake would have to beat out Brissett and there would need to be an Injury for him to start. As highly as I think of Curran I have to disagree. I believe Drake will be starting.
I have an opinion. I have an opinion about a lot of things. Actually, I have an opinion on just about everything. I have 8 Followers on X. I can type a lot of words. I string sentences and paragraphs together with the best of them! I have traveled to six continents and pet several dogs. I have a deep love for character assassination and laughing at others in their naivete (that's French for dumb ****). I know, I have no class and bite the snake's apple all too often. I consult Webster's Dictionary and sneer at Oxford's. I look for parables and connections in the way people use emojis. Books published, experts consult me, degrees in nothing but drunkenness and slander, though I once took an anger management seminar that my boss required me to to take even though she was later fired for throwing coffee at a Regional VP (yeah, Karma's not always the *****o). But I would never say, "I believe Drake will be starting."

It's an internet message board, it's made for opinion and speculation. A guy with Maye's size, skill set, age, experience etc, generally become great QB's so yeah, make sense to talk like that. Someone like Bryce Young almost never succeeds historically so we should just ignore all the evidence and just wait until it plays out to say these things? Booorinng!.

Why wait until these guys prove it to speculate and give an opinion, it would make the board kind of dull in the off season to just talk about what is and what just happened.

It also allows you a chance to gloat later or be bashed as an idiot for a bad take, that's some good times!

Of course he has to work for it.. I didn't say **** would come easily for him.

Great stuff. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Did you ever think you'd see Zappe starting?

you did though. "He's destined" means exactly that...

right now we have no idea how he's going to perform on the field... hasn't even been thru his first camp.

i am kinda exasperated here... there is a lot of talk about him being the starter from day one because he's already better than brisket... That's fine and all, a bit overtly optimistic for my tastes, i understand it, but only to a degree... the simple fact of the matter is we don't know who we have under center until he gets actual game reps... combined with the line issues, the new coaches, the new offense etc im just kinda stunned...

I get the excitement with Drake. I too am excited
Until I know the OLine is gelling. I do not want him anywhere near that line of scrimmage
Yes QB’s want to play. They need the in game experience
He is 21. He’ll get plenty.
The best way to destroy a player is by getting him killed. Physically and Mentally
I want him playing by years end. Not right away

Wolfe has pretty much followed GB’s way of structuring a team
Sign your own players first etc
Another GB way is sitting your rookie QB and ease him in
Let him learn and see NFL football before throwing him to the wolves
QB’s have been successful playing and sitting their first year
Just a different take
Let me be clearer on my stance. Wolf had farve for Rodgers to sit behind, there is none of that whatsoever in NE.

If and when Drake is ready the team will start him.. if the o line is ****ty the all the QB will suffer. Of course as a fan your excited and want your talented QB to play.. when I say I want him to play I'm saying if, and when he's ready be it week 1 or week 12...
Right now it's all pure speculation no one knows how this all is going to work out.

I keep going back to Houston they too took the same approach with CJ.. but he showed early on he was ready and it worked for them.. it's we just have to wait and see.. even the sports people don't know.. they report want they think.. every position on the 53 will be competitive. All I know is I just want watchable football this fall no matter who's at QB.

Pape.. It's just my opinion.. I have nothing but my opinion as I've learned more about Drake.. when I used destined I used it solely in a " feel " content. So maybe I could have used a different word.. I understand where you are.. you want him sit and yeah that is cool as well. I understand we have unsettled things with the team.. I guess my excitement for Drake is because we been ****ty at the position for so long.. so the fan in me wants to see Drake play. But if he has to sit if that's what best for the team then I'll root for watchable football this fall.

AMEN TO THAT!
Let's not throw away a season before it starts.
Yes!!! The horror show we saw last season is etched in our minds.. so I can understand the slow approach... but let's root for whoever is at QB to please make it past the 50.. LOL

there is a back and forth going on between managed expectations and outright optimism... you want to be optimistic, be optimistic. but explain yourself - explain what you see, maybe explain why you have formed the opinion that you have... it makes for better back and forth

it shouldn't just be about taking wild ass guesses as to what will happen. temper the optimism (or pessimism) with what you know based on what we have seen in the past. multiple "Oops my bad, i really blew that one" threads/posts make people not want to read what you write.

I think we are in for a grinder of a year. why? the coaching staff lack experience across the board - both offense and defense. we have a very unsettled offensive line. we have a career back up penciled in as the starter. we have a rookie behind him. people tout the defense as a strength of this team - yeah, well BB isn't here to help with the Defensive game planning and prep. Circles back to point one.

I am hoping Maye does not start until some of those questions are answered. I think it would be detrimental to his development and career if he was tabbed the starter from day one... we are working from a roster that had multiple holes last year (the last few if we are being honest) - lets give Maye a change to develop properly... throw brisket to the wolves and let him take the pounding while everything gets sorted out... let the coaching staff figure out what works, what doesn't... where our strengths are, where we are weak.

And not go in reverse from there we saw that too many times.

Seems like more people especially locally are starting to feel the way we do. I firmly believe the time is now. Let him play, think of this any polished plumber, carpenter, electrician that's successful didn't learn by just watching they learned by doing the job!
Learning from the bench has worked but those teams usually had a QB already. We don't.

And That's why I don't want to waste Drake Maye on the bench if he understands the Offense. This is not Green Bay who went from Favre to Rodgers now Love. Some Patsfans are fooling themselves with that take we should use the approach the Bills took with Josh Allen. Let Maye play until he gets' it he's our future not Biscuit. You can suck your Rookie year and still turn out Great ie... Manning let Drake learn on the fly.

Bingo!! Who's the favre here? The alex Smith, the Joe Flacco...
Searching.

We don't know about Maye but if he starts right away I'll be optimistic because it'll mean the coaches have faith in him.

I heard a great story the other day about optimism and pessimism btw. It was a story that Ronald Reagan told a large group of pols when he first became President in the 80's. He told them about a pair of twin brothers, one who was always optimistic and the other who was always pessimistic. He said that their parents tried to balance them out by giving the pessimist a room full of great toys for Christmas while they gave the optimist a large pile of horse manure.

After an hour the parents went into the pessimist's room and he was sitting on the bed sulking because one toy's batteries died, another broke and none of them were any good. The parents then went into the other brother's room and there he was, tossing horse manure into the air. When they asked him what he was doing he said that he was looking for the pony.

That's when Reagan stated that he was tossing aside the manure and looking for the ponies.

Pape: we are not weak on Both sides of the Ball we Potentially could have a Great Defense with good health of course. We are not talking about an expansion Team here. Our Offense was our achilles from the QB position especially. I think our OL is going to be better and a Aiyuk puts our WR Position over the Top.

if he starts, he starts. I can't do anything about it. and of course i will root for him to succeed.

If he sits I will be happier knowing that he has a chance to develop properly, even if it means the team has to rely on less than stellar qb play from Jacoby Brissette for a while...

and i would respond to the nice Reagan story with the 7P's - Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance
