Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Brad Stevens deserves all the accolades he's getting, but the Celtics should also mail Danny Ainge a ring for his trade that netted the Jays.
Brad is a pretty low-key guy. Doesn't seek out the spotlight at all.

McFilthy McNasty was the Bullets' Jeff Ruland & Rick Mahorn but Johnny ramped it up when Mahorn joined the Pistons, where Johnny hated that whole Pistons team..
...and on those 80s Bullets teams you had Tom "McVillan"

Johnny was so good with the nicknames

That was an awesome ending to an awesome season. So great to see JT & JB get one together. So many media talking heads said they couldn't do it. I'm one happy camper.

This game & this team proved again that defense wins championships. Shutting down the NBA's leading scorer won this series.

My only complaint about this last game was the NBA commissioner handing the O'Brien trophy to Celtics brass first.
It always happens. Either to the owner of head hoops boss. Sometimes they will defer but not often.

I remember when the Cs won it in '84 Stern handed the trophy to Red. With a cigar in his mouth he hoisted it up and said to Brent Musberger, "What ever happened to the Los Angeles dynasty? This is the dynasty right here! <pointing to the trophy> ) . So freaking awesome.

If JM says “no minutes restriction” then he should start KP.
Great win! So happy for the organization and the Js.. hope we can retain D White.. in the off season.. we will loose AL to retirement likely..

IIRC, Jason will be 26 when next season starts. JB will be 27. KP will be 28 and White will be 28 as well. ONLY Jrue and Al will be in their 30's AND I think PP ,and Hauser are also under contact.

BTW I think Hauser has been the most improved bench player. His DEFENSE this playoff run has been eye opening. Just check his stats when he was the main guy covering Kyrie or Luka . He only had 2 of 6 tonight, but 3 of those misses were in and outers.

Bench players who get 15-30 are important in getting your team through the 82 game grind that is an NBA season . The minutes they play from November to may allows you to get your starters get to the playoffs rested and ready to play in that hard grind when starter minutes always go up
Yep. This team is perfectly positioned to run it back for a repeat.

Hope Big Al comes back. Maz managed him perfectly this year. Maybe bring in another stretch big as KP and he both have situations (age and health). Kornet and Queta (team option) are fine for the reg season. XT was fine but he is not signed for '25

Love Pritch but i'd like to see another big guard emerge/develop just in case White walks after this year. Plus Jrue will be 35 this time next year.

I don’t think Horford will retire.

White is here for next season and publicly stated he wants an extension.

I think the Celtics just need a couple of decent rim protectors for depth.

Hauser’s 2024-25 team option: $2M

Celtics should leverage that into a 2-3 year team friendly deal / extension in the $5-6M range

In free agency, Hauser would likely clear $10M

Yep. Lock him in. He'll continue to improve.

No, he isn’t Jaylen Brown, but this +|- is a constant with him. He creates ideal spacing on offense, is a decisive, smart passer. He is also an underrated defender. He’s good off ball. Luka had his way with him due to size, but Hauser is deceptively quick with good footwork. Irving was frustrated several times he couldn’t get around him.

Good +|- doesn’t just randomly stick to the same player consistently.

Your right I not too long heard on WEEI that he's returning.. yes Brad said they were going to work on an extension for him.. I think he'll get around what Holliday signed for is my guess..

He's a shooter.. so he Will likely command I'd say 8 to 9 million on the open market.. IMO..

They've got two hockey teams. Elmont is right next door, the Islanders are more of an NYC team than the Exit 16W Giants or Jete
I thought of that but knew it carried the NJ label

The Devils carry the NJ label, Islanders are LI. Like a rock throw from NYC

Brad likes his extensions and with guys like Hauser who are pure 3nD types you might not be far off w/ the $
