Marshall Faulk: the dumbing down of America

OK Ace, how is that NOT being absolved of cheating? He sure as hell was not accused of "cheating" at any other time. He was fined for violating a league rule, however. Again, a rule that BB legitimately had misinterpreted. Why are you so quick to embrace "cheating" and not a misinterpretation of the rule? Are you possibly biased against the Patriots?
I just explained, try to keep up there champ.

Arrr, you do realize that video taping on the sidelines was LEGAL prior to 2006. So even if they were able to gain a "competitive advanted" for the next game. (Speculative), there are only 3 teams they played twice in 2006 to be able to use the materal in the second game. Yea, such a big deal. IF they did do this, then they MIGHT have been able to do this, in these 3 games...

And are you COMPLETELY missing the fact that this was common practice that JUST was made illegal.

You "explain" absolutely nothing because you know nothing. Please go back to the messageboard for whatever team you're a fan of.

3 games in the nfl are huge. Every game matters. 3 games is the difference between 12-4 and 9-7. One usually gets you to the playoffs the other usually doesn't. Sooooo.... yeah.

So why was he video taping then if there would be no advantage to it? Is BB just stupid then?

Finding tendencies to try to decode a play here and there if possible. Having the material alone doesn't do anything, you have to have the brains to be able to get something from it. Probably 90% of the coaches wouldn't gain a thing from advanced scouting coaches giving signals.

Do you want me to spell it out for you again sport? Just because he didn't gain any advantage for that specific game doesn't mean he was absolved of cheating.

So there is an advantage to taping it in that matter then. That's what I've been saying.

The real question is what should be considered cheating. If a player forgets to buckle their chin-strap on a play, they are violating a rule and will get fined. Is that cheating? How about a dirty hit?

The key is that it isn't HAVING the material that is illegal, its how we OBTAINED it. If BB had got it from someone filming in the stands, it would be perfectly fine. Thats happened before... the Dolphins bought video of Brady calling his audibles. The players said it played a big factor in their shutout win. The league and reports said that stealing signals was perfectly fine...

You therefore can't say that the Pats cheated because they gained a competitive advantage. They broke a regulation of having a camera on the sidelines. We didn't get penalized for filming the coaches. It didn't matter what we had on those tapes. They could have been filming Brady's ass while he sat on the bench, it still would have been an illegal procedure... THAT is what we got penalized for.

People think the taping was all about decoding defensive signals for use against the same opponent at a later time. I doubt it had that much application, since teams change signals regularly anyway. It was written that BB kept dossiers on assistant coaches throughout the league, and this was one way of gleaning data on their individual in-game performances.

Then the league must feel there's an unfair advantage from taping from the sidelines than from taping in the stands.

Are you ignorant, biased, or just plain stupid?

Stealing signals is not against the rules. The Patriots were fined for where they were filming from, not for what they were filming. It was a procedural violation. The NFL deemed that the Patriots were not cheating during the Jets game, and the lack of any additional punishment shows that they did not cheat in any other season.

Really Arrr? There is a competitive advantage to filming Brady's ass? Or from zooming in from the stands (seeing the exact same thing). Explain that please.

Taping the signals is LEGAL. Location of the camera was not. Why is that so hard for people to understand?

If BB was a media darling, it would have blown over in a week.

People are just ignorant. If Arrr was smart, he would go look at WHY the rule was instituted. It has nothing to do with signal stealing.

Dunno what an advanted is buddy, so you're going to have to figure that question out on your own.

Back to the topic at hand, on the Bodog Fantasy Fix show on Comcast Sportsnet, Marshall Faulk said that the Patriots have not be able to stop the run and backed that statement up by saying the Eagles "found ways of getting the ball to Brian Westbrook." Yes, they found ways of getting him the ball (17 carries and 7 catches), but he was not very effective at either (52 yards rushing, one TD; 40 yards receiving, a long of 13). Yeah, Marshall, Brian Westbrook really killed the Pats.

The Steelers ran on the Pats. But they also lost the game by 3 TD. Doesn't seem to matter that much.
