Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Gonna root for the Knicks to win. I don’t think they are even a better team than the Cavs (w/Mitchell). On paper we should win in 5 again. They have less depth than the Cavs especially if they are also banged up.
Celtics will beat the Knicks fairly easily. 6 games max.

Pacers are such a wild card I’d would prefer to avoid them. I find that matchup difficult to predict. I think the Celtics would win but the Pacers are like a powder keg that may or may not go off every game.

Agree. Knicks are the preferred opponent.

If Knicks had Randle and OG.. we don't beat them.. Brunson no one can stop in the league but maybe McDaniels.

I'll agree the beat up Knicks team is preferred to the young run & gun Pacers.

If anyone is going to limit Brunson it will be the Celtics, assuming full effort.

I'm 4 games this season he's average almost 30 against us. He's a relentless scorer. Pritchard is the only guy I think that can stay with him. Full effort* your right on.

I know some people think the real season doesn't start until the finals but I think it starts now. Especially if KP can't come back healthy to start the series. I think the Celtics will be tested in this round. Rather it's the Knicks or Pacers. I got it going 6.

I know the Knicks are banged up but they play extra hard all the time.. Meanwhile we know the C's sometimes lose focus and lack the necessary intensity. Not to mention they still have brunson who just proved last game he is healthy enough to still have monster games.

The C's would have to play much better than they did against the Cavs and Heat or there is no way they end it in less than 6 IMO. We will see though. None of this matters if KP can't come back healthy enough soon.

Spot on! Agree with everything you've posted. Judging by the glimpses shown of KP on NBC sports Boston, he's not even putting weight on the calf.. not a good sign. It's been 3 weeks , that injury is difficult. And takes time to recover from.

We need KP to get to the finals. NY wich I believe will be the team we face next is a tough, gritty, hard nosed and we'll coached team by Tibbs. Wish Tatum took more high percentage shots , the keys to success against NY is going to the rim and getting thier bigs in foul trouble. Brunson is just unstoppable.. he will get his 30 a game. Just keep every one else in check.

The real season started against Miami. So many people are falling into the nonsense that these series don’t count, everyone in the East sucks, the Celtics have played poorly. They haven’t been perfect but also they aren’t focused on absolutely burning themselves out to satisfy the media who will otherwise complain about the Celtics being boring if they win by a lot.

We are 8-2 in the playoffs which is better than any other team. Were people saying this about the 08 Celtics when the Hawks and Cavs both took them 7 games (or 5, I don’t remember how long series were for the first round then)?

Denver played a fair amount of mediocre teams last season in the playoffs who merely had names. No one talks about that. I really hate how this is the new bench mark…you have to beat teams by 20 and never have a close game or you played poorly. And funny thing it seems to only apply to the Celtics.

Celtics are better than every team in the league including Minnesota and Denver. All those teams have deficiencies that the C’s don’t. Play to full capabilities and the title is theirs IMO.

Ok. That is your opinion. Without KP if Randle and OG played they will not beat them. Celtics need KP to get to finals.
Yes it is an opinion but an informed one....Knicks were 0-3 vs C's this year w/ Randle before he got hurt.

Celts are a better team in all areas.

...add KP and it's a 5 game series.

Agreed although if KP could still use more time I’m more than happy keeping him out as long as we are comfortably leading the series. If possible it would be ideal to get him time a later in the series so he isn’t rusty for the Finals.

Agree. He should only play if there is 0% of a re-injury. Dude is fragile. Hopefully Indy pushes it to 7 games which will give KP more time.

You know what I mean. Obviously those series count... but yes, the east DOES suck right now. To pretend otherwise is being disingenuous. Literally all of the top teams are hobbled. We faced teams missing their best players in both series and yes, we should have won in 5 or less. We did, so kudos to us for that.. But nobody in their right mind gave the hobbled heat and cavs a shot at being us. Nor should they have. Even without KP. We took care of business, but most people aren't impressed yet and I find that more than fair.

I know it upsets some Celtics fans that alot of people aren't giving the C's the credit they feel they deserve. I say tough ****. The Celtics had a very impressive regular season but outside of that they haven't done **** yet. If they want respect, they can go earn it and win the title like the teams you mentioned in your post.

If the Celtics are really better than every team in the league including Minnesota and Denver then all you have to do is wait a few weeks for the respect that you feel the C's deserve right now.

Playoffs are a new season. Brunson is playing the best in the playoffs. he's averaging 27. Ppg and 40% from 3 against us. No answer for him. It's not about the better team it's who's playing the best in a 7 game series. Celts were a better team last season against Miami too and lost.. we had no answer for Miamis shooting. Without KP it's going 7.

I think they can probably get to the finals without KP but it would be alot harder. I give them virtually no shot at winning the title without him.

Joker is tough. The guys a unicorn he's the ultimate mismatch at his position. NY is going to be a tough out. We just need to play tough celtics basketball.

The playoffs are the playoffs. Teams play hard and regardless of injuries they aren’t the Detroit Pistons. Cleveland was missing Donovan Mitchell for 27 games and they still won 50+ games and have one of the leagues best defenses.

I’m fine with admitting those teams are undermanned and we did as we should. I take issue with the idea that two 4-1 series ought to be considered poor performances and a dire concern which is exactly what it’s being painted as.

It’s stupidity. They weren’t perfect but who is? There is an obvious double standard for the Celtics. If every game isn’t a wire to wire 25 point win it’s a bad sign apparently.

I’m assuming when/if we beat the Knicks it will again be unimpressive and then if we don’t look pristine but still win against Denver or Minnesota we kinda got lucky.

I think this is fair. Going to six Eastern Conference finals in eight years is impressive no doubt, but at a certain point the pressure builds to get it done. I think some of those early teams reached that plateau a bit ahead of schedule, so I definitely don't hold it against them. But the Celtics won't get the respect that they and the fans want until they hoist the banner.
