DRAFT 2024 4th Round Pick - G Layden Robinson

Thanks. That is what I think everyone assumed but it is great to hear Nagy say it. It also aligns with Mayo's comment that other OLmen have positional flexibility (which means Robinson does not). It seems like a unflexible guard could have waited until the 6th, and in the 4th we probably should have drafted BPA.

We still do not know what the Pats are thinking, but you have to assume the Robinson sits a year, and in 2025 Sow moves to LG. It is possible the Strange is signficantly hurt so Sow has to move to LG this year. Having said all that, Robinson at RG means Onwenu is staying at RT, and that makes the Wallace pick a head scratcher. If we pick a LT next year in R1 (very strong possibility), Wallace becomes a backup. A third round pick for a backup? The whole thing does not seem to make sense. The draft approach appears forced to follow some strategy instead of adjusting as the players came off the board. It is a bit unsettling. The Captain is saying the same thing, just a little bit more colorful - LOL.
C Wallace have the skill set to at the very least Start @ RT this would make Onwenu stay at his customary RG spot what's wrong with that?? I think they are going field a better OL than the ones BB put out there the last three years.

That makes the Robinson pick redundant. Where is Robinson going to play if Onwenu is at RG? Nagy was at the Senior Bowl and said that Robinson was a good player but has no positional flexibility.

If Onwenu is going to be a RG, why did Wolf pay him like a tackle? Foolish.

They have no LT. Okorafor, who was benched by Pittsburgh, stinks. Anderson might surprise. Who cares if the OL is better, if the OL still stinks? Why does anyone care if the OL is better than the ones BB put out there? The objective is to win games. Your objective is to be better than with BB? Lol.

Well if Onwenu is going to be a Right Tackle we now have very good dept.

Okorafor - Sow - Andrews - Robinson - Onwenu

Okorafor - Sow - Andrews - Wallace - Onwenu

Note the trio of Onwenu - Wallace and Sow have position flexibility nice way to build good dept.

Sow is quite flexible. Onwenu is RG or RT - some flexibility. Wallace played RT all four years at Penn State, so he might have some positional flexibility, but that is still to be understood. Wallace says he is open to moving around the OL, and we have to like the attitude, but if he can actually move to other OL positions is yet to be seen.

Third and fourth round picks should not be used for flexibility and depth. Wallace might be OK, but a 3rd round pick seems like a reach. Playing Wallace at RG would be a fail. Robinson looks like a massive reach based on Nagy's comments.

Not much to disagree with there seems like they must really like the kid Robinson that is. Or Cole Strange's injury is worse than we originally thought. They could easily use Sow or Wallace at LG and play Robinson Exclusively @ RG. We gotta see how things shakes out in TC camp: last year it was said they intend to give Sow some work at Tackle we'll see how much he improves in year two.

Our Left Tackle "dept" ****ing Sucks.

I think Wallace and Robinson sit all of 2024 unless Strange is injured. Next year, 2025, it is R1 draft pick at LT, Sow at LG, Jake Andrews at center, Robinson at RG, and Onwenu at RT. Could be Onwenu at RG and Wallace at RT. We will see.

I think the R1 draft pick, Sow and J Andrews will all be upgrades in 2025. The pair of Robinson and Onwenu will be road graders, but not great in pass protection. Wallace is a sub, probably a good sub, but spending a R3 pick on a sub seems ludicrous.

Agree about the Sow... Still doesn't explain why Wolfie & the Leftovers drafted TWO Right-Side linemen.
You mean that you don't understand how they could disagree with you and expect Wallace's future could be on the left side.

It is not unusual for the #24 team in NFL ranking to have one important position where personnel sucks compared to the other teams.

I don't think that using a round 3 pick on a swing OT is ludicrous when we have no LT's.

If we get a top first round LT next year, we could be thinking that newbie, Onwenu, Wallace is a fine set of OT's.
==================
2025 OL (to upgraded again in 2026)
====
LT: R1 draftee, Wallace
LG: Sow, Strange (or replacement after trading him)
C; Jake Andrews Strange, (or replacement after trading him)
RG: Robinson (he does need to gain some weight if he is too be called "road-grader"}, Mafi (or replacement)
RT; Onwenu, Wallace

2026
The big need may be an IOL or two.

Just read something that the plan is to Play Michael Onwenu @ RT this upcoming season they paid him like one. So the Robinson pick makes sense now also Okorafor and Wallace will compete for the LT spot. Still kinda wish we took another Tackle unless they think Anderson could come around.

Okorafor was benched last year by the Steelers. Wallace is a rookie and never played LT. If that is the plan, we are screwed. We have to hope Anderson or Wheatley magically appear. Why do we have over $50M in cap space?

Should be an interesting TC @ Left Tackle.

So instead of dealing with the now we going way in the future ok.

3rd round pick should be a starter with upside, not a backup.

I agree. But we could have a starting FS, DT, or TE instead of a backup OT.

Well speaking of that, the last time we drafted OLmen in the 3rd and 4th, it WAS Thuney and Mason, iirc. So if these turn out to be 80% of those 2 guys, then it will be HR. BTW- I STILL would have rather gone with a CB, (Tampa) in the 4th, but it was pointed out to me that Bolden might fill the role I thought we needed for Tampa. I forgot about him. IIRC, we had another tall fast and raw CB that was drafted with Bolden. Who was he and what happened to him. Will he be back in camp?
I think you are thinking of Ameer Speed. He was cut and is now on the Colts

Ok, I disagree.

I'm sure that you are prepared to be disappointed with drafting almost all of the time.

How are you using the $50M to fix the LT situation for 2025 and 2026? Is anyone worth signing that wouldn't be cut next year when we draft and/or sign a LT?

The LT situation will be addressed next offseason with one or two additions, depending on how this year's group performs. Sure, we could sign a LT for this year and next. Better is to wait and use the money on a 2025 free agent.

I'm sure that you are prepared to be happy with the Pats draft almost all of the time.

Supporting a draft strategy of choosing backups in R3 is crazy for any team in any draft.

The best approach is to sign a 1 year FA this year and draft a Round 1 LT next year. The Pats got that correct and then fumbled the execution by signing Okorafor. We could have signed Tyron Smith or Mekhi Becton, but that would have cost us up to $2.5M extra, and the Pats wanted to go cheap.
