DRAFT 2024 4th Round Pick - G Layden Robinson

In order to make the playoffs, a lot of things would have to go amazingly well. I don't view us as a 4-win team, we seem more like a team coming off a 7-win season in terms of talent, and with the changes made to the staff, and given all the winnable games they've blown the past 2 seasons.

But even if you give them that, getting from 7 to 10 is a tough lift. There are questions at LT and QB for 2024, and the entire AFC is improved. The Jets, Houston, and Indy are examples of teams that we were ahead of very recently but have made big strides and will be tough to beat this year. The games against the Bears, Cardinals, Seahawks, Chargers, Jaguars, Titans, and Rams will all be challenging, and we can assume L's against SF, Cinci, and at least 2 vs Buffalo & Miami. Finding 10 wins against these opponents is not easy. Maybe we somehow finish 9-8 and squeak in on a tiebreaker.

Your take is downplaying how disastrous the injuries on the OL and at WR were last season, also how detrimental having owners and coaches completely at odds.

It wasn’t simply a question of talent last season, a lot went wrong to finish with the 32nd ranked offense in scoring.

Having everyone pulling in the same direction maybe for the first time since 2021 should be a massive boost. Also they have to beat the AFC East, not every team in the AFC to make the playoffs.

Replacing Mac Jones with Brissett alone should win them 4 games minimum,
The Brissett who has averaged 0.75 TD passes/start
The Brisset with an 18-30 career winning record ?
Delusional optimism is a tendency for people to believe that they are less likely to experience negative events and more likely to experience positive events than are other people1. The term "delusional" refers to maintaining fixed false beliefs even when confronted by facts, while "optimism" is the tendency to fixate on the best possible outcome or to dwell on the most hopeful aspects of a situation2.
and a coaching staff walking in lockstep
Lockstep as in.....the HC and DC having never called even one play in an NFL game
instead of fighting amongst each other should get them at or above ten wins.
The Healing Mural is a powerful symbol and tool
They already had a top five defense
The architect and coordinator of this supposed TOP FIVE DEFENSE were exited from the building and replaced by neophytes
they need to stay healthy

I don't see us being ready this year to reclaim the AFCE throne. Wildcard is the only path, meaning 9 wins minimum and probably 10 wins realistically to get a playoff spot. Trying to count that number of wins against these teams is not an easy exercise.

Brissett has only started for terrible teams, Mac had a great team in 2021. After that Mac's teams more often than not sucked because he was terrible and led the entire NFL in turnovers and interceptions.

Wins/losses is a team stat... not a QB stat. Tom Brady passed for 505 yards and 3 TD's in a Super Bowl but lost to Nick Foles.. football is a team sport.

The defense probably won't skip a beat this season with Covington running the unit, they have a lot of vets there as well. Just having the entire coaching staff running the same system and being on the same page will help. Health will determine the reminder of the season.

I get that negative thought is your only thought, but step outside your limitations for a moment.

I'm not promising a championship, I just said they could make the playoffs, especially if they get some help from the other teams in the AFC East.

Not even a mention about C. Anderson as a possible solution at LT in the entire article. Lame.

“It’s certainly no sure thing that Wallace and Robinson will earn the starting jobs there, but Wallace will get a chance to compete with veteran free agent arrival Chukwuma Okorafor at left tackle. ”

I'm not counting on Mister Anderson either. Heck he might have to start the season on the PUP list, along with Strange69 & DawgHouse Bourne...

I suppose

As I recall, the TEAM played well against Foles. As Kraft has said, one person lost that SB; and that man was Belichick. On Game Day, Belihcik announced that a CB who had played 98% of the defensive reps would not be playing. The Defense couldn't adjust to the coach's decision.

This take is just dumb, regardless of who is saying it.

Yup, another who agrees with Belichick who believed that taking out one of your players was no big deal. The next man up has the job of performing as well as who the coach benched or who was injured.

If you wish, you can certainly choose to believe that not playing your corner who played 98% of the reps during the season made no difference. And you can choose to believe that keeping this a secret until game time made no difference. I choose to believe that not playing Butler was a strong contributor to the Defense not being able to stop Foles, while Brady and the Offense performed better than almost anyone had ever done in a Super Bowl. Not bringing him in at the half was downright negligence.

Perhaps I have the years wrong. if so, I apologize.

Is this the Layden Robinson thread? Or the Malcolm Butler thread? C'mon dude.

Butler was statistically one of the worst starting CB's in the NFL that season. Butler got a massive payday from Tennessee that offseason and they benched him for their nickel CB Adoree Jackson because he sucked so bad. He peaked in 2016. Meanwhile the CB who replaced him, Eric Rowe, went on to have a nice little career and was a better player than Butler was going forward.

That 2017 team lost the Super Bowl because Donta Hightower, Alan Branch, Jon Jones and Patrick Chung got hurt before (during) the playoffs. They weren't winning that game no matter what, it took a Herculean effort by Tom and offense just to keep it close, with Butler it likely would have been worse not better.

Time to give him first team reps
I believe that Mayo is on record saying that they will make real decisions on the OL after preseason game 2. Hopefully that means changing things up at tackle which would give Robinson a shot if they move Onwenu. I would also like to see Wallace get a bigger role. I would rather invest in the young guys getting better than staying the course with the wrong kind of proven veteran.

Edit: corrected to specify Onwenu

He’s played well, but against opponents 2’s, 3’s and 4’s so everything in perspective.

It’s good news, but you’re not benching Onwenu or Sow and he can’t play tackle.

I think that the Pats are going to rotate the LT position and let Wallace get more reps with the 1st team. I really anticipate our next OL to be Wallace-Sow-Andrews-Robinson-Owenu.

Lets go Pats!!

I know I said something about Owenu moving out to tackle but at 350 I don't think he will be moved to RT at that weight. I just read that Nix was named the starter in Denver.
