Patriots Player Departure Lawrence Guy & Adrian Phillips Released

There are FA DTs that would be amazing next to Barmore but the going price is $19 to $20M and Godchaux is $10M. Justin Madubuike, Leonard Williams, Christian Wilkins, and Da'Quan Jones. Barmore will cost us $20M next year and I am not sure we will pay $40M a year for the two DT positions. I have no idea who we could get for about $10M to $12M a year like Godchaux.
Given our influx of cap space, I'm not opposed to keeping him onboard at his number right now. Would maybe feel differently if we were strapped on cap space.

I guess I've seen Godchaux as a high level 3rd option DT, average starter option as 2nd DT. Guys like that are fine players, but you can often find similar production for cheaper out on the market compared to his $11 million.

If the team likes him, I have no issue with him staying. May as well not create another hole on the roster right now

100 percent.

JC Jackson, Devante Parker can’t be far behind can they?
Parker just got extended and almost all of his $6.4M cap hit would be dead money if released. That would be dumb. This would be his last season anyway since there's a $5M savings next season.

I'd rather see what he can do in this new offensive scheme.

You are forgetting Bledsoe who will play a lot this season. Add marte mapu.

I wouldn't pay Dugger considering the position and his age and the fact thatvwe are not competing for next 2 years .

I would much rather sign somebody with high upside in 24 or 25 years of age to a 4 year contract right now. And yeah keep rolling over 30 million of cap space every year till we find our Qb of future . We will have a chance with higgins or pittman or another receiver in 2025. So wait it out. We don't need to do a 2021 again this year . Remain conservative and sign mid floor high ceiling vets from poorly managed teams .
McKinney is only 25.5, sign him instead of Dugger.

I think they'll definitely allocate some major capital to another DT. Jones probably won't ever get out of KC but there are other FA's, and of course, there's the draft.
Modubuike is only 26. Would look good next to Barmore.

what is the belief on Godchaux? We’d save 8 million in cutting him with only a few million in dead cap, and he’s not coming off of his best season. Could understand either way on that one.
I would cut his fat ass.

Any player over 30, shouldn’t be feeling too comfortable.
This is where I am at. David Andrews might hang around unless Jake Andrews shows marked improvement or DA could be around just for some leadership on what will be a very young line in all likelihood. Keep Jon Jones in the secondary for some leadership on that side and see if Judon can get you anything then dump all the 30 somethings. Any player in their late 20's to early 30's in camp should have a rookie contract guy behind him ready to hopefully push him off the roster.

I really hope we move on from one dimensional run stuffers. Our 4th biggest cap hit should not be on a running stuffing fat guy who plays 50% of the time.

I would try to get Chris Jones if the Chefs don't tag him
No thanks. Hell of a player but we don't need to be paying a 30 year old $30+ million a year on a rebuilding team.

I want to see 12 to 20 rookie free agents to push on this roster.

Godchaux is $12M and in his last season and is 30. I just don't think he's very good, but you're right about who to replace him with unless its in the draft.

I think so.. he's the HC, he and Wolfe likely decided that together. Anytime the team makes moves all season it's always going to be a question of if Mayo's making them. He's running the show collaboration with Wolfe.. my opinion is Mayo's going to state what he wants on offense and leave it up to AVP to run the offense and he focus on the defensive side.
Wolf appears to be defacto GM, which implies they are his moves. Obviously w/ input from Mayo.

I don't know what the big deal it that ownership can just say Wolfe is the GM, tasked with making signings, roster decisions and Mayo is the HC that also has a say and works in collaboration. We all pretty much as fans know this to be the case. However ownership does need to be a bit more forthcoming.
There isn't going to be a designated GM. That much is clear. They would need to follow Rooney rule before they can do that anyway.

By all accounts, Wolf is defacto GM.

On the back end.. either resign mills at FS, or target a guy that we feel can be a FS.. I think Dugger is getting tagged. Those are one of moves on defense I'd like to see!
I hope they're not tagging Dugger at $16.5M. That would be insane. Sign McKinney who is much younger and better.

This is the year to cut bait on Godsmack with a $3.5M dead cap hit. I'm still waiting on Jackson who should've been cut a long time ago.

Of course, that is OUR choice. Don't McKinney and other teams have a say in the matter?

Sure, I would prefer McKinney. That doesn't mean that we will win the bidding war to sign him.

And I do agree that Dugger shouldn't be franchised.

Why should Jackson have been a cut a long time ago/ To please you?

I expect that Jackson has a couple of weeks. It seems that he needs to be cut before his bonus is due. But there is no rush. His issues are medical. It may even be difficult to cut a player who still has his medical issues. I don't know whether we would have to pay the bonus while on IR. In any case, we are not going to pay him $12.5M of salary this year. We might cut him in June or July when he is healthy. We might negotiate a new contract with him. But I don't see the rush.
