Both are interesting watches. Didn't expect to see that many similarities between what Lawrence faced in his rookie year and Drake's including some terrible coaching.

The thing about these "one in a million generational QB prospects" is that the point is they have BOTH a high ceiling and a high floor. So you look at them and say "holy **** they can be something incredible, but if they don't, they are at best a starter".

Trevor's just the first one where his ceiling didn't manifest and he stayed at his floor. Manning and Elway were kinda psychotic and were always going to max out their potential, Luck was sort of something in the middle until injuries killed his love of the game. Lawrence always seemed a bit happy go lucky.

The Jaguars are kinda stuck because he's probably less of a risk than looking for an upgrade and he'll show a flash every once in awhile that will make you remember why people thought so highly of him. But it's been long enough where we can be pretty comfortable saying that he is what he is.

I dont think the Jags are stuck
was it poor evaluation or coaching on Lawrence?
I assume, even with his current contract, if the Jags decided to cut bait and trade him, 3 #1's would be the return

He was hurt last year but at the end of the day Lawrence needs to be surrounded by good coaching and a very good offensive playcaller.

In 2022, Lawrence had a 1200yd runner and 3 receivers that caught over 73 balls. He only threw 8 picks. Doug Peterson was still fresh in the role and his mind fertile.

What happened to Trevor Lawrence?

He went to a team with bad ownership and bad management.

Not all that different than having the unfortunate circumstance of being drafted by the Jets (or Browns, or Cardinals. etc.)

One of the biggest traits at QB that is obvious with the great ones is Mental Toughness
He may prove me wrong but I think he is a little light in this area

The media and pundits put Trevor and Caleb Williams into the Hall of Fame prior to them being drafted. Then the players found out that the NFL is hard, teams at the top of the draft are there for a reason, coaching turnover on bad teams is high, and many owners care more about making money rather than winning. Reality stinks.

I thought he was going to be great and pre draft I said to my wife, this guy is going to set the NFL on fire, he was so hyped up. Guess I was wrong. Like other have said he seems like at times he is just going through the motions and does not have a win mentality. Perhaps he will turn it around.

That's why it's hard to predict anything with these guys that went to top programs. Of course they're gonna look good... there's 100+ colleges to compete against. Top teams load up on easy wins to appease their boosters. The offensive line gives time to read a book. Wide receivers are wide open. The defense makes sure there's no pressure to really perform.

You have to have a lot going AGAINST you at one of these big program schools to make it. Look at Tom...despite being at Michigan, he never was really 'wanted'. They always wanted someone else to start over him. He just kept having to prove himself. That mentality carried over to the NFL.

EDIT: More recent... but obviously awhile ago now... I predicted Matt Ryan would be a good QB despite experts wondering about his INTs. I was thinking... man, he is pulling BC to victories. Of course he's going to toss up more INTs than a USC guy.

His team sucked, coaching, surrounding talent and he has been too complacent. It’s rarely just one thing.

Brady may have resented being pushed by his head coach at 40 years old, but needed that in his early 20’s… as much as he needed a great team around him.

Lawrence was coddled, told he was a “generational talent,” but nobody held him accountable and his team stunk. It’s a team game.

A great head coach could still salvage him, he was really good in 2022. Some tough love and a better team could fix it.

Some guys just don’t have an NFL makeup, their college game doesn’t translate to the pros. Like others said the Jaguars are a horrible franchise. Good news for Trevor is at least he secured a bag

Same thing that happened to Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Josh Rosen and Mac Jones.

Five quarterbacks taken in the first 15 picks that year and they all suck
As my 3-year-old granddaughter says to my son, about a lot of things: "Dad... that's terrible."
