If JC would come back for 5 mill would you entertain it?

Fields unfollows Bears.

if he’s healthy and he has his mind right, plus we have a ton of holes.
The entire draft should be fixing the offense.
Unless a defensive prospect falls to us who we have ranked significantly higher.
Two big ifs, especially his mental health.

Seems like Pittman, Evans and Ridley won’t get franchised. I hope the Pats are in on all 3 in free agency.

I would love to see the Pats add a starting caliber boundary corner, penetrating defensive tackle to play next to Barmore, a rush backer opposite Judon, a receiver, an rb and a tight end.

The teams biggest needs LT and Qb will need to be addressed at the draft because the talent just isn’t there in free agency.

History tells us that it is better than 50/50 that one of the other WR drafted will have a better career than Harrison.

Furthermore Harrison Jr. is not a YAC receiver, with some scouting reports having him “ often goes down on first contact because of his frame,” and I don’t know about anyone else but a possession receiver at #3 doesn’t sound like any kind of steal to me? I’m not suggesting he isn’t good prospect, because he clearly is, but I’ll take the shot at a franchise QB over a possession receiver every time,

I don’t expect them to make the playoffs next season, and I’m hoping they are in the Wild Card race for 25’, but if they build right I’m looking for them to be consistent contenders for Championships after that. So spending 20 million a year for receivers for the next two years, when they really won’t be in contention doesn’t make sense to me.

I think that both this thread and the thread on cuts/releases need to be looked at in the context of what people’s expectations are for the next to seasons and beyond. Are you looking for them to be in the hunt for a playoff spot next season? Or are you looking for them to build a team that could make the playoffs in 25’, but then be long term contender for Lombardi’s after that? If it’s the former then I understand why some here would be talking about trying to sign Higgins or Ridley etc…, but if you don’t believe they are going to contend for an actual championship for the next couple of seasons I don’t think signing the really expensive free agents for at least another year makes sense, as they will end up paying for two years at a really high price, for a team that at best might get into the playoffs in 25’.

They have to spend a significant amount this year per the CBA rules whether they want to or not.

They don’t have to spend it on high priced free agents. They can use it to re-sign the players they want to keep for the long term, especially on defense, and sign good young players with high upsides that are middle class free agents right now. The big name guys get all of the attention, but there are plenty of others who don’t that their pro personnel guys know about and can go about signing while others are focused on the bigger name players. Guys like Jabril Peppers weren’t among the high priced free agents, but ended up being some of their best players, keep looking for those types of players and wait on signing bigger names with bigger contracts until they are actually looking to challenge for a title.?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting they be cheap, I just want them to be smart in their approach. I don’t think he will hit the market but why pay a guy like Tee Higgins 50 million plus for the next 2 seasons if the most you expect to get out of that is a WC spot and possibly a playoff win 2 seasons from now? Build a really good foundation, and sign young players with a good upside right now, and if you think you have a team that can make the playoffs a year from now start bringing in higher impact players in 25’ and 26.

From E Lazar's latest article:

New England ranked ninth in DVOA on defense last season. With new head coach Jerod Mayo being a defensive-minded coach, it's worth noting that 15 of Pro Football Focus's top 20 pending free agents are defensive players. In particular, edge rusher and defensive line are deep.

Offensively, the only clear upgrades on the open market are Bucs receiver Mike Evans, Jags wideout Calvin Ridley, and possibly Texans tight end Dalton Schultz. Based on current reports, Tee Higgins and Michael Pittman Jr. are expected to be tagged.

At quarterback, Tampa Bay is making a significant push to retain Baker Mayfield, leaving a 35-year-old Kirk Cousins coming off a torn Achilles as the only starting-caliber free-agent quarterback, who will likely seek a contract worth $35 million per year.

Along the offensive line, the tackle market leaves a lot to be desired. One of the Pats own guys, Mike Onwenu, who might be a long-term starter at guard, is the best available lineman. Then, you have 33-year-old Tyron Smith or injury-prone dart throws like Jonah Williams and Mekhi Becton — it's not a good free-agent group at OT, especially compared to the draft class.

What I have been saying for the last 2 weeks. Sign 3 or 4 defensive FAs and draft all offense.

I’m all for extending Barmore, bringing Dugger back along with Jennings.

They could get starters at both tackle spots with their 2nd and 3rd round picks.
