PATRIOTS NEWS Rapoport: Wolf is the man

It seems to be pretty clear that Wolf is bringing in a lot of staff that he is familiar with. That's called leveraging personal connections. So although his title might only be director of personnel for now, it wouldn't surprise me if that title evolves to GM in a couple of years if the rebuild is considered a big success. A lot of highly placed people in that building will have owed their jobs to Wolf if they can make this thing work out well.
Some guys around here call it leveraging personal connections others call them yes men. I thinks it's just naive not to expect it obviously you want people you're comfortable with and that you feel will share your vision.

I like that Wolf is the defacto GM instead of Groh. Groh kind of scares me draft choice wise, he was on the same wavelength with Belichick, whose drafts have been bad for the last 10 years. So if Wolf has final say, I’m good with that. That being said, if Wolf drafts an OT at 3, that’s a fireable offense.

If Wolf is not the GM and "leaks" say Wolf is in charge without the GM promotion, that means RK is the leaker and the GM.

The funniest part of this offseason is Rappaport and everybody else acting like he is breaking big Pats news when Curran did all of it months ago.

Feels like Curran was the guy chosen to get it out there and let people get used to the idea before someone else completely different breaks it as news. Thus the shock and reaction to it would not be as explosive.

The shock and reaction to what? That Wolf is not being named the GM? I miss your point.

Apologies, I wasn’t trying to be critical, I was just trying to add context since you were replying to me. Didn’t mean to offend or say you should delete.
You bully. Lol

Don’t really have a good enough finger on the pulse about Groh. The only negative thing I can definitively say is that he seemed to be gung-ho for Tyquan Thornton and that didn’t work out so well. But he is far from the first guy to swing and miss on a receiver in these parts, assuming he was the main voice backing that pick.

Wolfe seems to be more reassuring. He clearly has the connections and experience.

I know very opinionated PatsFans think Fields is dog crap but a Team who made the playoffs could pull the trigger on him for a First. I think it's good move for them.

RK has final say. If Wolf had final say his title would be GM. Not complicated.
Do we know his title won't be GM? I think people are confused because there hasn't been any announcement about what his role or title is (unless I missed it).

That makes zero logical sense whatsoever. They could easily choose to give final say to someone without giving that person a title that no one has held here in New England for about a quarter century.

The story I read did not say he was GM. If they name him GM that is great. Posters were upset when BB didn't have coaches titles, and now we do not have a title for the GM, so far.

You are making up complete nonsense out of thin air.

Why not give him the title? All other teams do that. What is the logical sense reason for not giving the GM the GM title?

I'm not sure how we make any assessment at all about them. Wolf after all was the one looking at pro personnel and recommending them. It all remains to be seen. There have been a lot of decisions made in free agency that didn't work out. And some of those decisions look to have been based on physical athletic attributes instead of football player attributes.

We'll see, but when your butt is on the line, you may have a different approach to drafting and to signing free agents than you did when you were merely making recommendations.

Except when BB does it.

Hoody Man bad.

Do we really care what this guy's title is? Does it simplify who we blame when **** goes bad? Is that it? I could care fekkin' less. Don't tell me about the labor, show me the baby. All I care about is the 53, +/- the practice squad. The GM or the DoPP or Director of Football Analytics or whatever doesn't run, throw, catch, block or tackle. ****'s not filtered thru Bill's leadership and coachability lens anymore. Get athletes here. Leadership in the locker room will work itself out. If guys are locker room cancers, they'll be cut, and new guys will be brought in.

Players play. No one is cheering a GM move on Sunday in Vegas.

Everyone knows that "Thunder" is calling the shots.

RK at the presser announcing Mayo as HC, when asked who would make the final decision (i.e., draft):

"We're counting on our internal people whom we're still learning and evaluating. So, we're going to let that evolve and develop, and before the key decisions have to be made, we will appoint someone. At the same time, we'll probably start doing interviews and looking at people from the outside. But my bias has always been, in all our family companies, to try to develop a culture from within where we understand one another."

It seems to me this is playing out exactly as RK stated it would on Jan. 17th.

1. They continue to evaluate internal personnel.
2. They've interviewed and hired people from the outside (Highsmith, Brown).
3. They'll appoint someone.

So far, that someone appears to be Wolf. I'm not sure it's been 100% decided.
