Patriots new OC - Alex Van Pelt

Bourne will go to chiefs or chargers.

I think everyone knows he is an above average route runner. He is going to be in demand . I don't know which FA receiver would come here unless we offer more.

With the way the OC hire had happened I don't think pittman or higgins would come here unless it's a tag and trade.
There's more needs and better options than bringing back Bourne.

Whoever they hired, he would either be too young, too old, never been an OC before and we need that, been an OC already so if he’s available now he must suck, runs the same system NE has always run and we need change, runs a different system than NE has run and that will be a disaster, not enough buzz on Twitter so he sucks, too much buzz on Twitter and he’s not actually that good, no experience with QBs, experienced with QBs but the QBs he’s worked with aren’t good anyway, experienced with QBs who were good but they don’t owe their success to him in any way because (use ChatGPT here), the offenses he’s associated with weren’t good enough so he sucks, the offenses he’s associated with were good but I’ve decided to not credit him for that, and if all else fails, it’s racist.
You auditioning for a job on 98.5?

I like the pick, but I have to wonder why a guy like Zac Robinson went to Atlanta. I don't care that you have Kyle Pitts and Drake London, you don't have a QB. The Patriots are about to draft one.

Unless. -- were these potential OCs being told the job is Mac Jones's?

Stefanski called the plays and fired Van Pelt at the end of the season.
So he was an OC who had an offensive-minded HC who wanted to call the plays. That shouldn’t be an indictment of Van Pelt. In recent years, OCs who didn’t call plays have been hired as head coaches.

We don’t know the circumstances behind the firing. Perhaps Van Pelt asked to be released. Also, almost all of the greatest head coaches in NFL history have been fired at some point in their careers.

I can guarantee that didn't happen. Who on Earth would come here if that was a set condition?

Zac Robinson went to Atlanta because he is close to Raheem Morris. Not that hard to understand.

In fact someone on the beat, don’t remember who. reported that he was strongly considering taking the Pats job until Morris was given the job in Atlanta.

These kind of things make me consider moving to the UK and being a Futbol
Fan.

Some of the reporting said that a lot of Browns players were upset he was fired because he was the real leader of things on offense and actually ran and organized most things. Stefanski called the plays but is very flat and not necessarily the leader type.

Draw a parallel to Mayo and Steve Belichick, where Mayo was the leader of the defense but Steve called the plays. If the team fired Mayo and the players were angry, would it make sense to say “what’s the big deal? Steve calls the plays”
I guess I see playcalling more intrinsic to the role on the offensive side

I'm with you on all but Fields. This is not the time to be giving away assets. Pick a bridge QB out of the >30 available, dump Mac, re-sign Rourke or Zappe based on best fit to new system, draft a QB w/ #3.
It better be QB at 3. I'd even want to see them trade up for QB.

Irrespective of their draft and free agency strategy, I am hoping for two things from the offense:

1. Ball control. It seems to me that in the majority of the past 4 years, and even before that with Brady, the Patriots were losing on time of possession most games and after Brady their efficiency on 3rd downs certainly dropped off. Their defense was good last season. If they can continue that with Gonzalez and Judon returning then by improving TOP and 3rd down conversion efficiency they can get more wins than last season, especially considering how many close games they had. To this end they need scheme improvements and better OL coaching

2. More simplicity in the scheme for their receiving corps. Their poor record over the years with new receivers is due to many things, principally I think to a poor approach to evaluating prospects, but also due to relying on a scheme that has proven to be too hard to succeed for younger players. They need to accept the reality of the level guys are at now in general and stop hoping that the next Troy Brown or Deion Brian falls into their lap. For example with Thornton, if you’re going to invest a high pick in the guy, you need to adjust things to put that talent in the best position to succeed. All they’ve done with him is run a jet sweep or to a game and take a deep shot once a game with QBs that can’t make those throws with their lousy OL. It hasn’t made sense!

I also read that Rogers was pissed when they got rid of him too. I think he's just what we need now that we're hopefully drafting a young QB in the draft.

Bring in ****erson, get rid of Troy Brown and we're onto something.

If we're going bridge QB, run it back with Mac for another year and try to increase his value as a comp pick. I see no value in winning 6-8 games with Brissett. Higher cap hit and hurts 2025 draft position. Start the rookie and bring in a Hoyer-esque vet backup.

He did really well last year, made Joe Flacco look like a pro bowl QB out there. Solid hire if you ask me
What has he done with Watson?

I sure don’t want the Browns offense, do you?

Thunder splatt.

Idk brothers. I guess I need to read up a bit more.

No one wanted the job? No one Bueller?
