Patriots new OC - Alex Van Pelt

Interesting nugget at the end, Breer reports that Van Pelt will have freedom to hire his own staff.
This shows the respect Mayo and Wolf have for Van Pelt, I like the idea that if we get a rookie QB his OC won’t leave for a head coaching job in one season.

Liking the hire more and more.
If this hire is to fix Mac, then the kid should be called Cat Jones cause he has 9 lives and spent 8 to this point.

think Van Pelt can help get Stump Mitchell in the door to coach the running backs?

I know we're in a bad place when y'all think the offensive coordinator coming out of Cleveland through no choice of his own is our answer to how bad our offense has been for the better part of the past 6 seasons.

I'm sorry it's not optimistic enough for you but this place is for reactions and that's what you're getting. My reaction.

I'll be the first person to say I'm wrong if it works out.
Will you though?

If we draft any QB (especially at #3), they should at least sit for their rookie season and learn (also while a hopefully a good OL and skill position weapons are added).
If they go QB then they’ll probably need to target a tackle with their second pick and try to sign a top receiver and tight end in free agency.

I'm not at all criticizing the choice of ****erson, but perhaps Reiss is not aware that Charles Cross fell off big time this year in Seattle and he was considered a huge disappointment. NOTE: I did not use the word BUST. He has something to prove though going into his 3rd year. As for Lucas, he was injured much of the year.

Yeah I'm telling you right now we're not going to be much better next year.

In fact, I might even take the under.
MINUS Mac = PLUS 5 wins.

That move alone.

But MINUS Belichick = - 5 wins.

Add an LT, WR like Pittman/Higgins, a healthy OL, and Judon / Gonzalez, sign your FAs, and now you're looking at PLUS 5 again.

So, 8 or 9 wins.

Hearing some of the thoughts from beat writers is making me feel very encouraged. Breer’s take on what went down in Cleveland also suggests the firing was undeserved and that it was more of an owners decision because they didn’t like Watson’s performance.

The Patriots are building a bridge organization right now. This one is probably set to fail

Lol

Patriots fans after the last game: “I want shiny new toys!!!!!!”

Now suffering post-Christmas letdown.

This is going to be one helluva ride, isn’t it?
Bob appears to following the Red Sox play book using past success to cover up his cheap ways
so, if the Jets are the JEST, are the Pats now the PAST?

One thing: Caley has been passed over twice by New England, by the old regime and the new one. Maybe let's never bring up his name around here again.

I will say listening to the Patriots beat and radio guys this afternoon they were saying great things about Caley, how the players gravitated to him, and how he knew his stuff. That was Curran saying that earlier in the day assuming it was Caley's job.

Now Curran is so glad it's Van Pent instead because he was really nervous about going with a young inexperienced guy like Caley.

This is all a dog and pony show.

Yep, let's see how long Curran actually carries Jonathan's water for.

If they draft wisely, I understand that there will be quality OT's (LT and RT) in rounds 2 to 4 (but they'll also need a solid OL Coach(s)). I also agree about acquiring a legit WR in FA (hopefully Higgins or Pittman Jr. if they're not tagged). I don't want a 29 or 30 year old Calvin Ridley or the like. Man, we do have so many needs (including defense), but we'll just have to build an off-season at a time while hopefully continually improving.

First thing you need is a team philosophy.

How are you going to use the salary cap?

Are you going to do a Daniel Snyder?

Are you going to retain all your own?

Are you going to be aggressive like the Rams?

Are you hoping for team depth?

Are you going to use incentives to coax players into playing harder?

You can't do all of these things. You have to pick the positions that will get the money, the cornerstones of your team, and you have to stick with the philosophy. The coach has to operate within it, and so does the GM. The decision on football philosophy comes from either the owner or the Team President (we don't have a Pres. separate from the owner). If it's the GM presenting the team philosophy, then that's a problem.

Wow. People are acting like they just passed on a QB at #3.

Maybe we can trade and fix Cross?
