Assistant head coach sounds like an upgrade in position / status to me
Yes, Asst Coach would be a major promotion; Senior advisor would not be.

Asst Coach would mean that Steve could leave without permission for a DC job.

That's interesting... Did not know this. Thanks.

FYI all - at this point we will be keeping the thread strictly for news and about hires/interviews/rumors about the aforementioned two items. To dive into discussion on these topics, head over to the Mayo’s Coaching Staff thread. This thread is pinned as a means of allowing people to easily track the news without wading through tons of discussions and people fighting about whatever stupid **** is the talking point of the day.

In Person Interviews Start today. This in theory will spark the hiring process.

If there are any new or 2nd Interviews with any of the prospective coordinators please post a link here so the tracker in post 1 can be updated.

For all coaching discussions please use this thread:

One key note is that in-person interviews can now happen EXCEPT FOR staff members who are employed by the teams still in the playoffs - 49ers, Lions, Ravens, Chiefs. So if someone wants to interview Ben Johnson for an HC opening, or Tee Martin for an OC opening, they still need to wait.

I have had a hunch about Jason Licht and NE's GM need for a little while now - I believe his contract is now expired with the Buc's 2023 season having concluded... We'll see if that goes anywhere. EDIT: Nevermind, I actually found a little nugget from Rapoport in 2021 I hadn't seen before that says he got a "contract extension" (no details how long) that pushed him beyond 2023, so scrap this idea.

Eric Bieniemy (Commanders Offensive Coordinator), Shane Waldron (Seahawks Offensive Coordinator), Zac Robinson (Rams Quarterbacks Coach and Pass-Game Coordinator), Klint Kubiak (49ers Offensive Passing Game Specialist), Texans Top Offensive Assistants - Ben McDaniels (WRs Coach and Pass-Game Coordinator) and Jerrod Johnson (QBs Coach), Tee Martin (Ravens Quarterbacks Coach), Liam Coen, Wes Welker. Just to name a few. They all have potential and will invariably be hired by other teams, or promoted by their current teams this season. At the very least, they will each get their shots.

Go ahead and list who those people have interviewed with and then explain how the Pats are missing out on them since, to my knowledge, none of them have been hired.

You have no clue WTF is going on. You have no idea whether or not the Pats have reached to these people and been rebuffed or if they're waiting until the guys are done in the play-offs (like for the 49ers & Ravens). Hell even the Texans just got done, so their coaches might have been off-limits.

OH. BTW. For Coaches making lateral moves like Waldron and Bienemy, their respective teams have to give them permission to interview. And, in both cases, they are still under contract. OH.. And you're making the assumption that either would be interested in a lateral move instead of one of the 7 HC positions that are open.

Why are you so angry? Whenever I see people post whatever they post on here or elsewhere (even if I have a differing view), I never feel the need to, let alone actually do, have to make known to them (let alone in an angry and derogatory tone), how much I vehemently disagree with them (and again, in such an angry tone). Additionally, I'm not easily offended, nor am I offended (as that's not my nature, nor is it of the majority of those of my generation). I was just curious as to why you have such animosity and anger. I suppose, as Bill Belichick would say, 'It is what it is".

I saw that the Raiders and Steelers have also requested to interview Zac Robinson, so he is in demand so far.

would it be prudent to add a post that tracks the major positions that are open around the league? Just the HC/OC/DC positions? could add it to the second post in the thread, which is really just a rumor about Steve & Brian Belichick...

I think we have a better chance of getting Robinson than Pitt.
Raiders however are a problem if they target him.

Problem with Pittsburgh is that Tomlin seems like he is a little bit on the hot seat, so if he gets fired in a year then that means the OC might get canned too. Plus you’re stuck with Pickett…

In LV and NE it’s an all new staff so there’s more job security. Though in Vegas you just have O’Connell unless the front office swings a trade or hits on a later pick. NE could conceivably have a highly drafted QB, but the receivers are worse.

Raiders are a better facility and stadium, question is would Zac if offered both jobs prefer the New England area or Lad Vegas.
West Coast vs East,
I’d prefer West but each their own.

Added NFL Coaching Tracker to the second post in this thread. Its not 100% up to date, but will be in a day or two.

He signed a 3 year extension in 2021... so 2024 will be his last under his current deal... haven't heard anything about an extension... Looks like Pittsburgh will let the string play out...

Hope they land one of the LA guys.

Just glad Mayo has a open mind and is interviewing people with different offensive philosophies.

I really thought 5 years ago Mcdaniels was the HC in waiting never would of guessed Mayo.

But I like Mayos approach so far, the way he’s actually being more transparent regarding his processes is a breath of fresh air.

No way Glasers let Licht go, he's been a gold mine for them.
