Bill’s first offer…

Ironically if BB goes to Atlanta Kraft and BB will have split up but it’s bb who gets the younghoe

But he did with his 2nd interview and ATL let him leave the building and scheduled an interview with Vrabel also. It's not like Harbaugh and Vrabel are Rooney Rule interviews. Just weird. Is Blank trolling Bill?
Blank is trolling the fans, playing the headlines to show he’s looked at all the big name coaches out there. Wouldn’t you?

Also those coaches are using the interviews as leverage, as I'm sure Blank is as well to keep Belichick's number down.

I was told the job was already agreed to with Belichick more than a week ago. I posted that here in this thread when I found out. Immediate family member who has been in a suite at Falcons games w/ one of their biggest donor/clients. That's how my family member learned that.

Breaking news: Bill Belichick likely to sign on as new head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

Basically BB has taken a private jet to begin talks with Falcons owner Arthur Blank. And he's also scheduled to have a sit down talk with their CEO Rich McKay.

Article: MSN

I believe this was the price of the 'cordial parting of ways'. Don't attach any draft compensation for him to sign with a new team so the move can happen quickly and Kraft also pays BB an undisclosed amount of money to go away quietly. I don't know if Kraft paid Belichick the full 25m but you'd hope that it would only be the difference in salary between the Falcons job and what he was promised to get paid here.

They need to do due diligence. Head coach is a huge position to fill. Even if Bill is their #1 candidate they should at least check all the bushes and under all the rocks. Always have a plan B in case BB either isn't happy with them or makes too many demands they don't want to fulfill.

This isn't your fault, but this was breaking news like 3 days ago.

They have been, they've interviewed multiple candidates, probably to adhere to the Rooney rule and maybe because it's just smart.

There was no price. If Kraft fired BB then he gets his 25 mill and no comp is needed.
If Kraft threatened either bb would have simply said I’m staying unless you fire me. There was no reason for bb to have to give anything. He had all the leverage.

I know you are salivating at the thought of Blank trolling BB but once again, you simply don’t know what you are talking about.

“Let him leave the building” shows your ignorance. Teams cannot conduct in-person interviews with external minority candidates currently employed by other teams until after this weekend’s games and the Rooney rules now requires teams with head coaching vacancies to interview at least one external minority candidate in-person, so they would’ve been in violation of the rules if they had come to contract agreement with Bill after his second interview.

Other than all of that, your theory is spot-on.

Kraft could have finessed him and held him up for compensation, or any other myriad things. I'm sure Belichick took a settlement so he could go get a job right away - assuming he wasn't doing that already, of course. Hence the mutual decision.

He didn't have to, you're right, but he quite likely did in order to speed the process up.

Is the Rooney Rule you have to view one outside minority? Just listening on the radio and the guy said you have to interview 3, which I never heard before and thought sounded ridiculous.

A team looking for a new HC needs to interview two external minority candidates, and at least one external minority interview has to be in-person. The second requirement is the reason that no head coaching jobs have been finalized, other than Mayo (whose contract exempted the Patriots from those rules). In-person interviews with coaches currently employed in the NFL cannot occur until after this weekend‘s games.

How could he have held him up?

I don't think it was a favor to Belichick. Kraft wouldve humiliated himself across the NFL

Think that through
