Bill's ouster has enabled Krafty to create his dream woke organization.
I don't even know where this whole "woke" thing is coming from. Especially for people who follow the team.
The hiring of Mayo wasn't a sudden decision or based on anything other than the fact he's been a terrific coach. This was originally put in place for when Bill retired because the guy has done a good job, and it's not like Kraft hasn't discussed his desire for "continuity." He's mentioned it in multiple press conferences over the last however many years. And he's mentioned it repeatedly. It wasn't a decision that was made for any other reason other than that.
Also, if you listen to Mayo speak, especially when it comes to when he talks about how he thinks, his vision for the team, etc., the guy is incredibly smart. When you listen to him, it also now explains why he was garnering so much interest as a head coach and why they were afraid of losing him. I didn't really understand it at the time and was somewhat skeptical up until his press conference. I'm not anymore.
From there, this club has had women at the top end of the organization this entire time. Nancy Meier has been here long before Kraft even arrived, and she was one of the first people Belichick credited, along with Berj Nejarian as two key people who helped him during his tenure in his final press conference.
She's held multiple roles and said in an interview a few years ago, "I do more supporting of the general manager -- even though we don’t have that specific role now -- than I did years ago," adding, "I support everyone, if we have a new coach or player coming in or if we're releasing a player. All of those transactions on and off the field come through my office."
I think she's getting up there in age, and It sounds a lot like Robyn Glaser will take on more of a support role in other areas that she's handled, likely lightening her workload. But a "woman" in a prominent position here isn't exactly new. Especially considering one of them has been in a key spot for almost 50yrs.
And Mayo isn't just some guy - he's a player we all rooted for back in the day and he's already impressed based on what we've seen on the field and his initial comments. Again, if you haven't watched his press conference, you should. It'll provide far more insight than quotes and clips. We've already seen how players respond playing for former players, having watched Vrabel in Tennessee, etc. I think he's going to do well here.
