Mayo will be the new HC

You are entitled to your thoughts and feelings they are valid.
Name one white HC who didn’t have a coordinator position in the NFL or college ranks get a HC job?
Harbaugh unless you are saying a special team's coach is more qualified than Mayo who played at the highest level and is at least half responsible for a good Pats D last 2 years - the only unit that was remotely close to holding its **** together in this disaster. You listen to Mayo talk and he just screams special.

This is just off the top of my head. I am sure there are others. There are also plenty who were only C for a year.

He would need to lean heavily on his OC.

Can he even organize a team? I'm a huge Mayo fan but this is too much too soon. We're not setting him up to succeed by throwing him into the fire.
But who would his OC be ??? Bob, Josh or someone else ?? And I agree, we might be setting him up to fail, I just think he isn't experienced enough !

Mayo probably is the best choice.
He knows nothing but the Patriot way. All of the processes, systems and culture BB has embedded in the franchise can stay in place. He knows as much about a BB defense as anyone so should be able to continue some level of its success.
We are likely in for a long run of being on the outside looking in, so might as well give the good soldier a shot.
Kraft emphasized in his press conference that his selection would be for the “long term” success of the franchise… not necessarily who would get them to the playoffs next year.

2/3 seasons like this one and he won't see a long term, there is no such thing as long term in the NFL you're either playing in playoff games by year 3 or everyone is gone.

The point of the Rooney rule is to have minorities hired that wouldn’t otherwise be hired.
It’s certainly a valid conversation.
I can’t think of any non minorities with less coaching experience getting hc jobs.
The point of the Rooney rule is to give face time to qualified minority candidates who never got the face time because they are minorities.

It is then up to said candidates to sell themselves like any other candidate.

Why do you think there were no minority HCs for so long in a league where the talent pool has plenty of minorities? They were never even given an interview.

If the GOAT got fired for 2 losing seasons, no one will survive that here.

The point if the Rooney rule was to increase the amount of minority HCs.

The number of black HCs has been pretty consistent with the percentage of black football coaches. The racial mix of players isn’t relevant to the racial mix of coaches any more than the racial mix of brick layers is to the racial mix of social workers.

What Kraft says is all bs pr.
I am agreeing with you in general, the comment about long term might mean they know Mayo could take a bit of time but will ultimately be very good.

The AFC East is also loaded right now but will probably be on the downswing in a year. Buffalo’s window will have mostly closed, the Jets have 1 to 2 years of Rodgers at best, and Miami has 1 year of cheap Tua before they need to give him a mega deal which really hurts their franchise since he’s average at best. If NE can build a solid and well rounded team that isn’t propped up on heavily backloaded deals then they could position themselves as the divisional power again with some time.

We might as well have just kept Bill if Mayo is the guy

Just here to chuckle at the idea that the NYJ having AR for a few years is good for them. He’s a liability in every sense. A loser who coughs up games leading to the SB.

Obviously taking the long term view is the right thing. It is also discouraging and a reminder that the new coach will be held to a lower standard than BB. RKK's comments about expecting to make the playoffs are a thing of the past.

I thought he specifically mentioned playoffs at one point.

Mayo is basically bill 2.0. When Jerry jones fired Tom Landry, they hired Jimmy Johnson and it worked out pretty well. It’s crucial we don’t **** this up otherwise it’s going to be a painful next couple of years

Plus, how can you move on from a legend to a VERY green neophyte? Vrabel has run a program, coached his team to a championship game and was NFL COACH OF THE YEAR just two years ago. He was a Patriot and loves the Patriots. They would pass this man up in favor of Mayo? I really don't get it.

I don’t see why Kraft wouldn’t do a thorough search to be 100 percent sure.
What did he say he measured ten times before he cuts once,
Well I feel there’s at least 8’or 9’candiates deserving of a interview.

The comment means nothing. It is what he thinks fans want to hear. That’s all.

There are lean years ahead my friend. Especially from our perspective of expectations.
If in the next 12 years we win the division 3 times, get 2 wild cards,, win 5 playoff games total, end up 102-102, and win 1 SB between now and 2056 (beyond many of our lifespans) we will have met expectations.

I am 59 years old. We hired BB when I was 35. We won 6 SBs.
If I live to be 91 and the Patriots win 1 more SB we met the expectations we should have today.

You literally have Jim Harbaugh who just won a national championship. Led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance and 3 straight nfc championship appearances and Kraft is hiring his golden boy? That would be a disaster. He’s only been a coach for 4 years and we don’t need a defensive minded guy. This team needs to be in sync with the modern nfl if Kraft is serious about winning.
I have to agree with you.
Harbaugh is by far the best candidate followed by Vrabel then Ben Johnson or Slowik.
Eric Bienemy and Mike McDonald calling plays for a dominant defense.
I love Mayo but can be be a DC first?
is Harbaugh even interested?

why would he be? He’s sitting at the top where he is.

what evidence suggests he’s a candidate?
