As others have mentioned, it's easier to find a good tackle late in the first or early second (i.e. Light and Solder). Trent Brown helped the Patriots win the sixth SB and he was drafted in the 7th round. If they can't get Williams, get one of the other ones. The guy might suck, but drafting a Tackle would just delay things even longer as we wait to find the franchise QB. They missed on Mac so swing again. That's where we're at. In addition to drafting a QB in the first, try to draft the next Brady in the 6th or Purdy in the 7th. Better than drafting guards, kickers, and punters.
That's why Cole Strange is so nauseating

Real ... the once Great BB now have a dwindling following they are still few who would jump off the bridge with him. Gladly we are not among them I haven't listened to one of his smug pressers since Brady left. I just hope the Krafts have necessary people in place for the transition.
PatsFan2 my man.. your absolutely right. Some on here take it wrong when we critique him. We all gave him love for all he's accomplished. The last few seasons is all his doing with the draft and roster. Agreed.. I've soured on him the GM. It's over.. I'm sure he knows that.

Right or wrong, I was firmly in the “draft a franchise QB” camp until today. After watching our OL against the Chiefs, it has become clear to me that we need to draft a LT with our top pick. Brown isn’t the guy and McDermott sucks. They’ve been getting our QBs killed all year and that won’t be any different for a rookie QB next season.

I believe we should bring in a veteran next season as a bridge QB and focus on improving the OL through the draft and FA.

There are 2 LTs in the upcoming draft who are rated as Top 5 picks so I think one of them should be our guy.

The only way we should use our #1 pick on a QB is if we believe 100% that one of the top 3 QBs is the future of the franchise .

What do you all think? Let’s discuss…
Couldn’t disagree more. Just because they use their top pick on a QB that doesn’t mean they can’t sit them for a season while they upgrade their OL. They can still sacrifice a veteran until that happens. This is their best shot at getting the best QB on their draft board. If they don’t take it then I’m done watching them until they have their answer at QB. I’m not going to keep watching this garbage if they don’t give enough of a **** to address the most important position on the team.

The pats fundamental problem since 2018 (outside when Gordon played) is they’ve had no one to threaten defenses on the outside. Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Mac Jones it doesn’t matter defenses have played the them the same with press man coverage and loaded boxes. The dolphins OL is having a great year in part because they see so much zone because of Tyreek Hill and Tua can get the ball out quick.

The pats may have a top 3 pick in a draft with two franchise QB prospects and a historic WR prospect. The two most important positions are QB and #1 option in the passing game. The market has spoken and WR is the second highest paid position in the NFL.

1. You don’t pass on franchise QB prospects when one is available and you don’t have one

2. If none are available you don’t draft a tackle over a historic WR prospect

Excellent post. I'll add and properly developing that QB.. look at Baltimore.. Ozzie Newsome is a phenomenal talent evaluating GM.. the offense is geared towards Lamars ability. They have invested in weapons and have a ferocious defense.

Still need a franchise QB and some offensive playmakers to keep up with the likes of KC, etc.

Also need a roster with talent evenly distributed at all positions. It doesn't need to be All-Pro talent but solid nonetheless.

Signing a guy like Kirk Cousins is fine but it's a very short-term move.

Kinda like what we always had from 2001-2019.. this current roster is definitely the worst in the Last 23 seasons. IMO Groh is going to be the full time GM.. I like him to get some playmakers in here.

"If you want speed you have to draft speed"

I don’t get this idea of needing to build a good team before you can go after a qb. If you have a good team, chances are much lower that youll be in position to draft a generational talent without expending many assets to trade up. Then we are probably taking another mac jones or kenny pickett, what good is that.

Most of the time if you are picking in the top 3 you have a terrible team. Teams that are one player away dont finish top 3. Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence were in terrible situations their first year before their teams were able to improve rosters in following years. If you’re in position to get a franchise qb you take it and worry about the rest later. Or in our case spend money on it from the getgo since we are way under the cap next year.

How's answering a question trashing the team? He's this way even with guys connected heavily to the organization perry, reiss, even curran.. along with 25 million criticism comes with. Unless you’re part of the Belichick family why are you defending him? We all witnessed his great for a long time. Like I said the act with the media is old. Also show me a coach who treats the media the way he does? Over the years players were scared to death of being axed if they spoke to the media.
The people that ripped Belichick for refusing to answer about JC Jackson look like fools this morning.

The media want to know why he is disciplining a player or taking away playing time. He refuses to rip those players.

I defend him because I don't listen to Boston toxic media and don't need my coach to give great interviews. I don't care at all about that. IMO this is pathetic.

I believe in drafting a QB every year and if you have a high draft pick and don't have an established QB, then pick a QB. It's a crap shoot but if you don't take a shot, you definitely won't improve.

Oh I get it I'm not defending the media by any stretch. I was just alluding to the fact that he makes 25 million a season criticism comes along with the job.

If you're going to sign Kirk Cousins, you may as well sign Baker Mayfield, who's 8 years younger.

You actually are defending those vultures by your response.
Legitimate criticism is fine - but ripping a coach for protecting a player with something that is actually none of our damn business is doing nothing but perpetuating this.

Cousins is so much better than Mayfield, and signing Cousins is short-term while they develop a successor.

I didn't say don't criticize him. Criticize him all you want. I'm saying that press conferences don't matter.

This offensive rebuild is going to take a couple of years at least so I don’t see an issue with rebuilding the line first and then going after the franchise QB in the following draft.

This rebuild isn’t a quick fix, we have to do it the right way to get back to where we want to be.

Now, if the Pats organization thinks one of these 3 QBs is a can’t miss guy, then by all means grab him…but I don’t think we should force a QB pick for the sake of drafting one because we don’t have a viable QB on the current roster.

This debate just illustrates how badly we need to hire a competent GM this off season…that’s the most important signing actually.
How many times will we have a top 3 pick? If there’s a QB there that the GM loves then you take him ahead of any other position.

Cousins = Big Game Choker no thanks.
