Something to ponder about BB.

perhaps BB simply understand the hand he was dealt this season. a great defense losing it's 2 best players
an offense that the QB/OC simply could not get on the same page
free agent decisions that did not work
injuries to the OL that decimated its vets (Anderson, Reiff, Onwenu)

Bill certainly saw the situation, and concluded with Kraft that playing it out to revamp in the draft and free agency is how to quickly come back next season.
if Kraft is on board with that, and Bill comes out of the gate this offseason in the draft/free agency with a clear path to improving the offense, he most likely has another 2-4 year run with the team

I had a nice reply typed out and chrome closed the tab it was in for some reason...go figure. Well, those dudes should have never been signed. They should have had some talent ready to go from 3 drafts ago so they wouldn't have to do this ****. Scar would never have allowed this. God how I miss his coaching. He literally came in after Mr. Brown was useless and got a great year out of him. The whole program reeks of one thing. Lack of preparation for the future. Like others have said...ego is the reason for all this. Oh well we will truly find out BB intentions with this coming draft. Will he trade back for multiple possible / or probable useless picks or will he pull out the guns and get the guy he really wants. Considering he really hasn't had to find a franchise qb in 20+ years, you can say im feeling wary and apprehensive and worried.

This isn’t hard…. they missed on Mac.

The 49ers missed on Trey Lance, but they had JimmyG and when he got hurt they had a wing and a prayer in Brock Purdy… who they hit on.

With a great/good QB this 2023 team has a winning record and is battling for the AFC East.

Go find a QB in the draft… this isn’t hard at all.

Yeah it's not hard at all to find a good QB in the draft. Tell that to the Bills who waited 20 years for their guy. Or the Jets who haven't had a good QB since Pennington.

The premise is wrong. What he did to the Jets wasn't as immature as you interpreted it.

Belichick was offered the Raiders coaching job in 1999. He decided not to take it when the Jets told him it was a bad situation and that he'd be taking over for Parcells. So he stuck around in New Jersey, was given a huge raise on par with head coaches. When Parcells stepped down, Belichick decided to go with the Patriots instead. He was in no way obligated to take the Jets head coaching job. When Parcells left the Patriots, the Patriots actually tried to get Belichick to stay in 1997. News reporters camped out in front of Foxboro Stadium and saw that Belichick spent 4 hours talking to Kraft in a car in the parking lot. The plan to have him eventually coach the Patriots was hatched in that car. Why? Because Kraft saw what Belichick had done for the team when he was hired in 1996.

When Parcells found out Belichick's plans, he quickly elevated him to head coach. When Belichick was apprised of this, he immediately resigned on the spot. Within minutes.
That's not entirely accurate. To clarify:

Belichick followed Parcells to East Rutherford in 1997. At some point (I forget if it was right away or later on before the '99 season), Belichick had a clause put in his contract that when Parcells retired, Belichick would immediately become HC of the NYJ. This is the clause that would later come to bite Bill in the buttocks.

After the 1999 (regular) season, it was generally assumed Parcells was continuing as HC of the NYJ. Belichick started to pursue the opportunity in New England. As is well known, an assistant coach/coordinator is always free to leave a team to take an HC position elsewhere (even if they are under contract). Parcells, for reasons known but to him and God, was so adamant against Belichick going to New England that he decided to resign as Head Coach, thereby triggering the clause which immediately made Belichick the HC. (Head coaches under contract are not free to leave)

So, at this point, Belichick was indeed obligated to the Jets - either that or retire. One day later Belichick delivered the infamous napkin "I resign as HC of the NYJ" and gave the equally infamous "mentally unstable" retirement speech.

Fortunately, at this point in time, the NFL had a reasonably intelligent, competent commissioner who was interested in the best interests of the League. He negotiated/imposed compensation that NE would pay NY, thus freeing Belichick to go to NE. The rest is history.

A lot of this we've covered as nauseam. Bill missed on draft picks, FAs and has not brought in skilled guys to take the pressure off Mac. The brain drain of coaching losses should not be overlooked. If Josh McD was still here, and they had a true weapon on offense that opened things up, then there would have been some continuity and perhaps Mac would not be such a mess. Instead, it's a cluster eff unlike anything we've seen under Bill, and certainly lately, everything Bill touches turns to .

Jete screw up pretty much everything. But yeah, it's not a lay up.

Bad organizations do bad organizational things. Nobody told the Bills to take EJ Manuel. Do better…

It's not easy to "just find a good QB in the draft". They might find one in 2024, or it might take 20 years, or maybe they'll never find a good one again.

Oh and he's not on the bench either. It's very hard to find a franchise QB or everyone would have one.

You can’t be afraid to do something because it’s hard. You can’t be afraid to draft because Mac failed.

Draft a QB in the first, take one who isn’t mentally weak like Mac. Since BB admitted he only drafted players he liked or wanted to work with they’ve taken softer than Charmin players like N’Keal and Mac… time to rethink that philosophy.

I don't rule out sabotage at this point honestly.

Never said they should be afraid but you implied it wasn't hard to find a good QB in the draft. It is extremely hard to get the right guy.

Otherwise every team would have a franchise QB.

And BB will probably be gone so that philosophy will probably change regardless.

I don't believe for a second that Bill would be losing to pay back the team. I'm pretty sure that he's losing because he doesn't have the right players, including but not limited to the QBs.

Bullsht… I never said anything except Mac failed and try again.

Trey Lance failed, but the 49ers are magical team builders because the very last player in his draft class worked out. Sounds legit…

Stop putting words in people’s mouth and try listening for once.

Continuity is everything.
But just like Rome, when your centrality of culture (talent) gets siphoned off for 5-10 straight years, you're going to falter.
But just like Rome, eventually that lands at the feet of the emperor. And costs the head of the emperor.

This wasn't you?

Yeah it's so easy to find a QB in the draft. And he ain't on the bench either. Both QB's on our team absolutely stink... or does Zappe get another excuse this week?

Draft picks fail, the average NFL career lasts three years. A third of the league is made up of UDFA’s.

You can’t be afraid to fail, you need to draft another QB… draft two. It’s not any harder than finding another kicker.

Philly beat Buffalo yesterday because Jake Elliot is an exceptional kicker, the entire team is great… it’s not that Hurts has magic powers.

Yes I agree when a team doesn't have a franchise QB they need to try again and again until they find him. But that doesn't mean it's not hard. If it wasn't hard then every team would have a franchise QB.

I think kickers are easier to find than QB's.

He’s not doing this on purpose as his legacy has taken a major hit. The national media continues to pile on how Bill was carried by Tom.

Bill’s biggest mistake was not riding into the sunset with Tom so a conversation like this would be hypothetical.
I believe that his passion for coaching wouldn't let him walk away. Remember when this team in 2021 was 9-3 atop the AFC.. I can remember all the accolades, the praise.. fast forward to 2023.. what a stark difference. When TB left that is when BB should have stepped down.

This let's Belichick off the hook if anything.

I think Bill was genuinely trying to prove that he can win his way without needing Tom - don't spend on an elite receivers/skill position guys, hire his buddies for his coaching staff, focus on defense, etc. Prove he can coach up and win with anyone.

This year saw Bill double down on that more. The way he extended Davante Parker and signed Juju Smith Schuster instead of keeping Meyers or going after DHop felt almost spiteful. If you wanna say Belichick was sabotaging the team this season, then thats more believable for sure.

But i think whats happening is just the consequence of Bill trying to win with a strategy that doesn't work without Tom
