If it wasn't for the intrigue around the starter this week, releasing Grier to add McDermott to the roster would not draw much attention. I think Ross12 has the right idea - resign Grier to the PS where he can continue to be the emergency 3rd QB.

The difference is that he wouldn’t just be an emergency QB anymore, he can play snaps any time as a PS elevation without the other guys who are active needing to both get hurt first. And he can elevate 3 times before needing to be signed to the 53 again.

That can’t be this week though, as PS elevations have to be determined today, and Grier won’t clear waivers until tomorrow.

I agree. I was hoping they’d try Grier this week. Why not ? Because he’s not good ? That would be hilarious, as they’ve played other QBs that aren’t good for several years.
