It's easy, and only takes a few moments. No did not say this at allYou are saying you want to replace the winningest playoff and SB coach of all time because he hasn’t won a playoff game in 4 years and you want to replace him with a guy who won 2 in his life.
A good coach is not a coach who doesn’t accomplish much but you can make an excuse for him.
I can't even think about this. I still haven't gotten over Tom's departure, which was announced on the same day Charlie Baker announced that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was being locked down on Saint Patrick's Day. One of the worst days ever.
Would be so much fun to watch but he's said he doesn't want to coach in the NFL. That's too bad.
You could put Joe Montana or Brady in their primes back there behind the revolving door offensive line and scrub receivers and still not score more than 10 points, not to mention the defense is decimated that actually put the offense in decent position early in the season - its going to take one hell of an offseason to produce an actual NFL caliber offense and the team has the cap to do it but no room for error either. - Don't expect scoring to suddenly become incredible in a lost season that hopefully is a short bump for the future no matter who is taking snaps behind center.I would try to identify who’s done the most on offense with the weakest talent.
That to me Would be the best offensive coach,
I too am a fan of Stefaniski.
Shoulder Cleveland part with him.
Let’s start making a list of HC candidates then we can take it down once we score more than 2 offensive TDS a game.
Is anyone else hoping to see Will Grier inserted in the game early?
Great post! Here's what I think will happen. Mayo! I feel RK already has BBs succession plan in place with Mayo. He's entranced in the organization he is someone who's a leader and can command the attention of the locker room. Reportedly his contract was set where as he didn't interview for other HC and DC positions. He actually canceled his interviews to stay here. As smart as Mayo is I'm sure there had to be some assurance in his contract. Mayo, HC, Flores DC, Ben Johnson OC. Is what I'd like.It will absolutely be a thought worth discussing.
First of all: I hope that, for the love all things holy, Kraft stays as far away as possible from the following 3 names:
Patricia
McDaniels
BOB
No more recycling the same regime. If you’re moving on from BB, don’t go back to the same tree and expect different results. You’re better off keeping Bill.
I’m also hesitant on hiring Mayo, but not quite as hesitant. He may be in the BB tree, but I think he would be more willing to adapt to change. He’s very young as a coach, and I could also see him being very willing to delegate out personnel decisions. He’s the one internal hire I wouldn’t hate.
Outside of that, what names would we be looking at? For me, the most intriguing assistant names I see out there right now:
Ben Johnson, OC Detroit: he has been incredible running that offense. I think Dan Campbell will miss him dearly once he leaves.
Bobby Slowik, OC Houston: he is doing amazing things with a very inexperienced offense. Also comes from the McVay tree, which has a high success rate.
Frank Smith, OC Miami, Ken Dorsey, OC Bills: more guys from a successful coaching trees. Would really be a nice move to snag someone from one of our rivals.
Brian Flores: DC Minnesota: if there is a defensive coach to hire, maybe bring Flores back in? He was honestly pretty good in Miami before things became weird there. Wouldn’t mind pairing him with a young OC.
List of candidates who could be fired or leave their current roles:
Mike Vrabel: I’m not really a fan of this one, but I could see him bring a candidate, going back to his NE roots.
Ron Rivera: This is one I’m not interested in. He’s been a great coach, but I think he’s getting past his prime.
Matt Lafleur: I doubt he gets fired, unless this season goes way downhill for them. But if he was available, I’d definitely take a look.
Sean McVay: another one that I doubt gets fired now. He’s honestly doing an amazing job this year with limited resources. I think it’s more likely he steps away altogether from coaching than he is to leave, and take another job.
Kevin Stefanski: he honestly had a great start to his coaching career, but seems like he’s in a toxic situation in Cleveland. Likely gets canned if they miss the playoffs this year. I could see him being more successful elsewhere.
John Harbaugh: if they missed the playoffs, would he finally be fired? It’s not impossible, although not likely. But of course, let’s be real: even if he was available: f*** this guy.
college HC candidates: Most college coaches that would be worth a look at becoming an NFL HC are ones that will likely never leave their role. Guys like Saban, Smart, and Day are pretty broken into their positions. There are two names to watch here:
Jim Harbaugh/ Lincoln Riley: Both are in very cushy roles that would take a perfect situation to leave. But if we are bad enough the rest of the season to stumble into the top pick, and are in a spot to draft Caleb Williams, it would become way more realistic.
You’re aiming way too high there. Flores and Johnson can’t make lateral moves to join the Patriots unless their current teams agree to let them leave, which isn’t happening.Great post! Anything is possible I don't know what the contracts terms are for Flores or Johnson. However coaches move all the time.. Flores has held multiple coaching jobs past few seasons. You aim high to reach the sky my friend. You’re aiming way too high there. Flores and Johnson can’t make lateral moves to join the Patriots unless their current teams agree to let them leave, which isn’t happening.
I mentioned the same names. I forgot to add I'd want mike Tannenbaum as GMSmith or Johnson for me or Buffs OC or Passing game coordinaror.
Agreed! It is just time.. we need innovation on offense. New ideas, new and modern ways of roster building. Mayo is definitely someone who's respected and is open minded to bring in creative minds offensively. Guys would come here to play for Mayo I'd think.Jerod Mayo - I am not against a defensive minded HC who hires someone innovative to work on the offensive side of the ball. Mayo has the leadership traits as a former player as well as the Xs and Os experience through working with Bill for 5 years to be a successful CEO style head coach. Coaches that defer to their coordinators for play calling and manage the game have been successful for a long time - Bill, Harbaugh, Tomlin, Carroll to name a few.
Lions OC Ben Johnson - The best available external candidate. The lions are a superbowl contender in large part to his innovative offense. Jared Goff is having a career year & he has successfully integrated multiple young players in St. Brown & LaPorta into his offense that weren’t first round picks. His offensive philosophy of being physical up front & using play action is similar to the pats offense over the years. His scheme would also be friendly to a young QB.
There is a clear gap after these two candidates. There is risk with hiring any candidate but Mayo’s familiarity and Johnson’s track record make them pretty good candidates IMO.
Frank Smith Dolphins OC - This is his first year as OC on the most explosive offense in the NFL. Hiring a Mcvay or Shanahan candidate can go either way obviously. How much of the offenses’ success is related to McDaniel? Smith’s playcalling would be modern atleast.
Dave Canales Bucs OC - Keep an eye on him. He was the QB coach for Geno Smith’s career year with the Seahawks and now has Baker Mayfield doing the same. If the Bucs keep this up he’ll be one of the hotter names on the market IMO.
What I most want is a Steelers WR scout.Anybody with Bills ties should not be touched with a tent pole from GM or scout perspectives. Can we get someone from packers or eagles front office
As a side note, I think BB jumped the shark as a leader when he said this golden nugget last year. You can't inspire others to work hard when you basically throw your hands up and say something is too hard to do. I understand why he said it, but HOW he said it was baaaaad.
"I think we need to do what we're doing better. I don't think at this point making a lot of dramatic changes; it's too hard to do that," Belichick said
