Even though Oakland only scored 17 last night, the offense looks at least semi-competent. McDaniels mixed it up well and threw in a gadget play or two - something we have yet to see from the Patriots through 5 games. The Patriots defense is ridiculously overrated, even more so now with no Judon or Gonzalez. They will be a bottom half unit as well at the end of 17 games. How do the Pats win this game? They're going to have to be nearly perfect - no turnovers, over 50% on third downs. No penalties. This team, been saying it for years - is not good enough to overcome turnovers, and it's gotten to the point where if they don't get good field position, you can forget about scoring. It is THAT bad.
Nothing about this team is cause for optimism. I don't see much of anything from preventing another embarrassment. Usually when things snowball they get worse and worse and worse. Against New Orleans, the team quit, the coaches quit, and it was a morgue inside that stadium. Belichick's streak of futility vs starting quarterbacks continued Sunday. The Patriots are going to need Oakland to hand them the game to come out on top - one of those four turnover games or something like that. Right now the Patriots have the look of a historically bad NFL team - we're talking 1990 New England Patriots bad.
