Double Kelce = man coverage. So, Mahomes can run/buy time to find the open man. Play zone and Kelce will just sit in those soft spots.

Long story short: Kelce is really good, and taking him away isn't easy. Every team comes in with a plan for Kelce, but you know what Mike Tyson says about plans...

Chiefs fans complaining about Chris Jones not getting his money = loss. I don't think so.
Sure he makes a difference, but what really made the difference in that game was Kelce - and you can't hedge a freak injury.
But if Kelce was playing, they would have scored at least 30.
What this really shows though - Mahomes is not Brady yet.
Brady won/went to SB's without his star TE and WR. He was forced to play with average pass-catchers most of his career.
Let's see how this plays out.

Yep. But there’s no way he will be 100% next week either.

Brady winning that AFCCG vs the Jags down Gronk and Edelman with a gashed thumb seems even more historic today.

They ran 35 times for 118 yds (3.5 y/c). Take away the three kneel downs and it was still 32 times for 121 yards (3.8 y/c).

They had a couple of big runs but most (more than 50%) of their runs gained 3 yards or less.
Gibbs averaged 6.0 yards a carry
Montgomery 3.5 yards a carry

If 3 straight runs produce a 1st down youre running the ball with success. Furthermore, the lions had the ball 5 more minutes than KC. The lions last 3rd down run for a 1st down sealed the game for Detroit. Mahomes and 1 minute is plenty of time to get in FG range.

KC could not stop the run.

?? That is not a poor yards per carry. Their backs ran for 74 yards and 42 yards, that's 116 yards.

There's always context to YPC, because if you're consistently getting 3.5 then you're fine. Either you're getting the first down or you're keeping yourself in manageable 3rd downs. But for reference, if they had averaged 3.5 per carry for the season in 2022, that would have been 31st in the NFL, so in that regard, it is a very poor average.

The Chiefs need to make some more TV commercials so everyone can laud how great they are.

How about Andy Reed going for it on 4th and 25 from his own end? He did not trust his defense to stop the Lions run.

Detroit won largely by strength of will and physical toughness. They are the sort of team which would, for example, take advantage of all training/practice opportunities during preseason. This is the sort of team one wants.

Mahomes massive contract is really starting to come home to roost. You can see just how awful his young receivers are this year. They didn’t pay to keep Hartman. They didn’t pay to keep Juju. They didn’t pay to keep Hill last year. And now with Kelce getting injured, it is a pretty compromised receiving core he has.

What is interesting is Joe Burrow got paid yesterday. It actually got announced right as the game was beginning but he is going to be making 55 million per year. That is 10 million more per year than Mahomes. You know that Veach is going to have to look at his contract this off-season and add more money. At this point, Lamar, Herbert, and now Burrow are all making more money than him.
Losing Hill is a huge deal obviously, but I wonder about what Hardman has ever done in this league. 4 yrs averaging 35 catches a year? That's like 3rd or 4th receiver production. We'll see if Hardman is better with Rodgers than with Mahomes. I doubt it

Not having Kelce was the difference. But I think your take on Brady vs Mahomes is bit to simple, in the fact that Mahomes was throwing very catchable balls and his guys had inexcusable drops.

I could see if Mahomes was missing guys on his throws or not identifying open receivers, then I would say your take was spot on. But that simply wasn't the case.
