Should we worry about or regret Kayshon Boutte getting cut?

I think they should find a way to keep Boutte, but at this time last year (or the year prior), I thought they should keep Nixon. And then they put him on the practice squad and he didn't really do anything. So I trust the coaches to make the right decision on whether he's done enough to make it or not.

there are plenty of scenarios where the team can keep 6 WR's and Slater as one of their top ST players.
Agreed. Temporarily exposing a fringe player to allow TT to be on the 53 before moving to the IR is a likely scenario.

To the poster who said we haven’t had a wr catch a pass clean and take off to the races like that is spot on,

If he’s not at full peak and he is able to do that already.
We need to develop this kid, I’m sorry teams are not beating the door down for Sokol or anyone on our offensive line after the usual suspects.

They can all be safe on the PS or easily replaced.

I still think his leadership is worth keeping him on the roster, especially with the number of young players we now have.

his leadership is top notch no doubt, id just hate to lose a potential young prospect for 1 more year of his on field special teams play, when he could retire and we could still get his leadership as a coach.. and if there are injuries, then he could come back as a player and help out lol

Boutte was thought to be a 1st Round pick after his Freshman year. Injuries and problems (with Chip Kelly) plummeted his stock. But he didn't suddenly lose those 1st-round traits.

Go look at the "draft profile" between Boutte and Stephon Diggs, the athleticism, in particular. Diggs couldn't make it as an outside receiver, dontchaknow?
The kid has come in and seems to be on the right track. He's making plays, he's causing no trouble (quite the opposite - seems he's determined to erase the reputation that came after his injury). He's admitted that he was checked out, and for a kid to have that awareness and ADMIT his personal failure is pretty impressive.

It's one play in a preseason game, but that slant the other night was exactly the type of play that's been missing in the last couple of years...where Harry or Meyers or some other lumbering guy wouldn't have had enough separation to take it much further. Boutte caught it cleanly and fully, had it secured and was up to full speed the whole way and easily outpaced the pursuit. he wasn't looking to just catch the ball, but to snag it and GO.

I'm sorry, but they'd be nuts to cut him. There are qualities you need to see in a player in any sport that you can't quantify with a number.
Let’s cut him, so we can watch him TDs against us

Huge mistake to play that game.
Didn’t Bill try that with Garret Mills and Braxton Berrios.

Boutte being cut is not a big deal. I hope that statement does not bite me in the arse

i dunno man, when you watch him play he shows glimpses of that "it" factor

his college stats out paced even guys like Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, etc

He has all the tools to be an elite #1 WR

I posted in another thread but will repeat here, and may get attacked for it

Matthew Slater is a Patriot thru and thru, nothing but love for him, but at 37 years old we need to focus on the future and we can't be cutting some of these young guys who are oozing with potential just to carry a 37 year old special teamer

Whenever I use that roster tool to create a starting lineup, Slater is always an odd duck that makes it difficult because hes not really a wide receiver, but essentially always takes that 6th WR spot every year

We're going to need that extra roster spot for guys like Boutte, or some young guys we drafted along the offensive line, or for one of the young DBs. Slater helps us this year only, these other guys could help us for the next 5-10

Slater has also lost a few steps, you can see in replays etc that he's lost his top gear
Slater will not be cut. Period. He will retire when he is ready. He has given everything to this team

Completely agree. There is a lot of players we can put on the PS for a week that nobody is going to snag. I’d be willing to risk more then most to keep Boutte.

and i agree with everyone, there is zero chance there is a headline or NFL roster transaction of the Patriots cutting Matthew Slater

Belichick would never do that to him, they would talk like men and if it came to that he would retire with honor and class

im not suggesting we CUT matthew slater.. hes 37 and was on verge of retirement last year, so we need to be ready for life without Slater on the field as a player

With a limited number of roster spots it is a calculated risk, not a mistake. Either way, someone has to not make the roster to keep all of the WR.

Bam Childress, Brian Tyms, Zach Sudfeld, Jeremy Ebert, Chris Harper, Devin Lucien, AJ Derby, Austin Carr, Jacob Hollister, Isaiah Zuber…. preseason studs all.

How many went on to NFL greatness after the Pats cut them?

They know what they have or don’t have. We’ll see how much he plays in game three with the bubble guys.

I think given the team's draft history at WR they have to keep him and work with him. he has shown he could be a possibility.
I do believe Thornton is safe, and the team could carry 6.
would mean either 2 TE's or 3 RB's with another TE and RB or two on the PS.
if it means Boutte or Harris, I choose Boutte.
Agreed, I believe the organization demands so much mentally from guys they draft that's why alot of our WRs haven't worked out. And for those who have it's been injury that's prevented them from long term success. ( Malcolm Mitchell) .

But Boutte definitely makes this roster.

1) Boutte is absolutely a keeper, imho.
2) He did beat two 7th Rnd rookies on the play, so take with a grain of salt. Still awesome though.

Tyms was my binkie. Remember the videos of his vertical in the locker room?
Derby and Hollister look better to me than Sokol and Firkster do now.

I was big on Tyms. Still think he was one of the best we have had catching the long ball down the sidelines. Liked Bam also.

There are no legacy spots on a 53 man roster. If Bill wants to cut him, he will let him know so he can retire. If he makes the team, will because Bill thinks he can do what is needed.
