last night was a complete dumpster fire for the offense - and the defense's performance was grossly overrated. But this is about the offense. And to draw some sort of comparison, and by the Grace of God I hope this changes....last night's schittshow on offense...as I mentioned before, they were 25% on third down, an abomination....in the last 2 preseasons, the pre season third down % has been similar to the regular season (good vs garbage).
There was no preseason the Cam Newton year...but in 2021 they were a respectable, workable 44% on third down in the practice games and, voila, they were were 44% in the regular season...last year with the Fat Load, they were a poor 30% on third down in games that don't count and in regular season they were an almost as bad 35% on third downs....so we have a slight trend with the post-Brady offense...let's hope they improve on third down for thee next two games that don't count..Bill O'Brien the offensive guru should have these guys up to 45%, right - minimum

A lot of words to admit that basic understanding of what preseason games are for -- especially the first preseason game -- eludes you.

Starting LT? Didn’t play.
Starting LG? Didn’t play.
Starting C? Didn’t play.
Starting RG? Didn’t play.
Starting RT? Didn’t play.

Backup LT? Didn’t play.
Backup LG? Assuming it’s Bill Murray, didn’t play.
Backup C? Played one or two series.
Backup RG? Played.
Backup RT? Played - but he played LT, not RT.

They were down their top OL and then also down three out of five of their backup OL, and after a couple series, four out of five. And the one backup that did play more than a couple series - Russey - got hurt and left.

This is next level delusional.

Ok, ill try to be constructive:
How many of your supposed starters will play next week when its the only starters preseason game?
How many snaps will your imaginary starting OL have together before week 1 (practice incl)?
How many snaps will BoB, Mac & co have behind a competent OL before week 1?
How many would they need at a minimum to be well prepared for regular NFL game?
Which of your supposed backups give you confidence starting (since backup OLs will end up starting) - and based on what?
What OL compensation do you expect from the “skill“ group?

And 2 more:
How important is OL for this team considering the roster (wo real blocking “skill“ players and limited explosivity)?
If you think its important and are at all worried about OL situation - do you think this situation was avoidable?
.

This is next level delusional.

What in the world is delusional about it? I’m pointing out how many first and second string guys didn’t play, versus largely the first and second string of the Texans for the majority of the game. I said nothing about importance, I’m just pointing it out.

try to answer the questions and maybe it will dawn on you..

Without their starters they sucked. The starters that played on the OL sucked. Didn't expect much to get worse.

It was the first pre-season game, period

Super Bowl Bound?

Bye bye Uche. We are not picking your contract.
The fact you think that White's play has any bearing on Uche's contact is astounding.

This is one of the worst takes you've ever posted. That says VOLUMES about how bad it is.

The 1st will take snaps each of the next two weeks, both in join practices and in games. Then they'll have another 2 weeks leading up to the 1st game of the season. It's not hard to look at a calendar.

Your last two questions border on farsical and show that you really weren't paying attention to the off-season.

Bill spent a 4th round pick on Sow who they could have probably had as an UDFA with this profile

"Missing the fundamentals"... oof.

Bill or whoever the next GM is... it's time to start paying up for real talent up front not invest picks or $ for projects.
Stephen Neal

Pros: A good wrestler.
Cons: Never played football before.

Only 4 or 5 more preseason games left before the real season begins. Can't wait!
I'll still admit I don't know what BB means specifically by his "extended preseason" comments regarding Sept-Oct games. But the Pats no longer have the luxury at QB to drag out talent evaluations another month while the rest of the NFL is playing real games.

garbage oline or not, there was no improvement anywhere on offense. they couldn't move the ball, they were 25% on third down, threw for 86 yards, the starting qb averaged 5.6 ypa, absolutely nothing changed from last year's Matt Patricia game offense. What was different? They threw a ton of passes shorter than 5 yards, got stuffed at the line repeatedly, and generally looked like a team headed for 4 wins. Yes, it's the first preseason game, yes, there were players missing on the line....but that offense looked like the players haven't had one practice. It looked like last night was the first time the offensive players stepped on the field.
For all the circle jerking about the defense, are folks forgetting, yet again, they gave up 7 points at the end of the first half - and this has been a chronic problem of the Belichick defense of late.
Luckily there's a month until week one. Everyone's banking on guys coming back from a shi tty oline from last year to make a huge difference.
It's ok, BoB is going to wave his magic **** in a helicopter motion every practice and suddenly everything on offense will be fixed.

Malik Cunningham looks like a dynamic 2-way threat. If we don't find a way to keep him on the 53, another team is definitely gonna take him.

Our offensive line meanwhile looks a shambles. Mac 'not mobile' Jones is not going to thrive if our tackles continue to suck.

“Hey guys, just so you know, the Pats largely sat their first and second string but the Texans didn’t.”

That’s just… stating a fact. There’s no room for it to be delusional.

Stephen Neal

Pros: A good wrestler.
Cons: Never played football before.
He actually played football in high school but dropped it in college to focus on wrestling. He was not just a good wrestler, he was great: two-time NCAA champion including defeating Brock Lesnar (who also became an NCAA champion before becoming a WWE and UFC heavyweight champion).

Neal was IMO one of the very best guards in Patriots history. When he got injured in the 2007 Super Bowl the offensive line collapsed.

Ya, I've seen the Lesnar match many times. To @sb1 's point, though, Neal was an UDFA... Pats didn't spend a pick on him.

Just saying that players can have glaring fundamental weaknesses but still turn into something amazing.

I was really impressed by K. White, he made one play (the fumbled toss) that showed me he's got a great understanding for the game. Instead of going for the ball, he cleaned out the runner, eliminating the player with the best chance to retrieve it. That's heads up football. I'd love to know what BB was telling him on the sideline.
Nice to see a mobile QB forchange. I hope Mac was paying attention. What I liked about Malik is that right away he understood the O line couldn't block long enough for the plays to develop, so he moved around to by some time. I thought the line did real well opening holes for him on calls designed for him to run.
I'm not quite ready to worry about the O line. One of Bradys gifts was knowing how to use his line, how much time they could afford him, and how to execute the designed play to perfection. I don't feel as though Zapped was doing the line any favors by not moving around and waiting for things to develop. It could have been the play calling too. Hard to say till we get all of the starters out there.
It certainly seemed like many of the line issues went away when Malik came in. It seemed like the play calling loosened up and the team was having some fun, including the coaches. I think BB liked what he saw. I think if Malik would have come in when McSorely did we,d be looking at the line a lot differently.

If you think its important and are at all worried about OL situation - do you think this situation was avoidable?
.
Everybody is "worried" about the OL. That is a HUGE distance from "certain that it is going to be a disaster" and "we know from watching this game that they are in trouble" conclusions. Those two things are ENTIRELY different. One is a concern, the other is a conclusion. And in terms of "board citizenship behavior", the former supports good football conversation, the latter is a selfish emotional outburst.
