I remember a few years ago a scrub QB with an 80 yard TD run at the end of the 1st preseason game, Danny something. What ever happened to him?
The legend of Danny Etling.

Was cut by the Packers earlier in the week.

Danny etling? I don't believe he's in the league anymore. I had mentioned that the mobile QB isn't new. Warren Moon could run when needed, but Randall Cunningham was the first coming.. then of course Vick, RG 3 and of course action Jackson.

Bobby Douglass was the first running QB

Cunningham was our #4 QB battling for a PS position.

I think that Cunningham solidified a PS position, and is making an argument for carrying him on the 53 as a 3rd QB.

I think that QB1 and Q2 are set.

I'm not going to apologize for liking the kid. Its preseason and it was against 3-4 string guys, but i like what i saw. A good find and hope he continues to improve when given the chance. He certainly out played McSorley

Fran Tarketon was the very 1st. Cunningham was the first to start the trend.. Vick revolutionized the mobile QB who can throw. Jackson is the very best at it.

Just saying, Steve Grogan kicked ass and took no prisoners, a honey badger.
Absolutely.. I remember as a kid in the 80s watching him.. he was a dam good QB ..

Tarkenton was a Qb who could run, Douglas was a running QB
Tarkentons most rushes and yards were 62/376
Douglas was 141/968 in a season when he passed for 1246 yards on 198 pas attempts.

This thread is a waste of broadband. Just the work of the trolls who are here to aggravate us with nonsense.

I LIKE Cunningham. THIS year I like him as the scout team QB giving great looks to our defense when we play RPO type QB's. That's IT. After that develop him as a QB or WR, I don't care. The kid seems to be what Edelman was at the beginning, a good football player. Now turn that ability into a productive player.

BTW- keep this in mind. In the 4th quarter of the first exhibition game you are not only getting the dregs of the roster, you are getting every basic defensive calls and DEFINITELY zero game planning. All of which plays right into the wheelhouse of a player with the skills of Malik Cunningham.

I'm happy with what we saw from him. But outside of a potential situational play designed for him, or ST's role, his value to the team is going to be his scout team role for THIS year, while he learns and develops into the type of football player Bill's deems as his best chance to have a career in the league.

OK.

Cunningham won't be starting at QB in 2023, and won't be valuable this year, except on the scout team. Of course, it is possible that he could be OK as our emergency #3 QB.

That being said, should be kept on the 53? How valuable is he on the scout team? How valuable is Cunningham as a possible 2024 0r 2025 #2?

Yeah i agree.. we watched him last night.. he looked decent enough.. zappe has starting experience, he should have been able to fare much better given his experience against whoever was out thier example. Look at how Houstons back up did against our back ups.
Lol Houston’s backup has started 26 games, he’s probably going to be their starter again sooner than later. Zappe played against their 1’s and 2’s and made the best he could do with no blocking or poor scheme.

Cunningham threw 4 passes… good grief.

Steve Young was better because he was a better passer… he didn’t have to run even though he could.
Steve Young was great.. but he wasn't nearly the athlete

No one is sitting here saying Cunningham Is going to be a starter or anything.. just he brings something this team us lacking excitement!

The offense line was putrid

He was a former RB, just because you can run doesn’t mean you should. Nothing can defend the perfect throw and catch.

Running is nice and all… passing is the job. Lamar Jackson can’t get past the first round, and he has been on one of the best teams in the AFC.

Cunningham will be a valuable scout team QB and may contribute as a WR as well. I’m glad he is with the team.
