  • The state of the offensive line will be made public Thursday during the Patriots' preseason opener. In private, it's already cause for concern.

  • Without David Andrews at center, Riley Reiff, fifth-round rookie Atonio Mafi, James Ferentz, Kody Russey and Conor McDermott comprised the top line. Russey is a second-year player who was a college center, Ferentz is expected to be cut in a few weeks, and McDermott remains best suited as a No. 3 or No. 4 tackle.

  • Unable to dam up pressure, Mac Jones would have taken five sacks during 11-on-11 periods compared to at least three for Zappe and another for McSorley.

  • The backup offensive line featured, from left to right: 2022 seventh-rounder Andrew Stueber, 2022 sixth-rounder Chasen Hines, fourth-round rookie Jake Andrews, converted defensive lineman Bill Murray and converted rookie tackle Sidy Sow, a college guard.

  • Neither line could clear space for even a 5-yard run in team drills, despite Rhamondre Stevenson fully participating for a third straight practice. Not great.

So suddenly the mediots and fanboys realize OL is a thing?

LT > Reiff - retired RT waiting for the memo
LG > Mafi - rookie playing Survival
C > Ferentz - severely undersized overaged practice squad player
RG > Russey - undersized untalented center only you better pray you dont have to use
RT > McDermott - motorically challenged practice squad player

Im actually enjoying the very much deserved - and fully expected - OL cluster****. I hope BB enjoys it too.

Good for the team this is happening at the start of TC because i wouldnt bet the starting OL will be much better.
Gives them time to prepare now for the >2s offense wo running game..

A tad melodramatic, no?
Let's see how the injuries progress over the next few weeks. Brown, Onwenu, Strange, Andrews, Anderson all didn't practice today. McDermott is a solid backup. The rookies will continue to improve. The Patriots OL was ranked 19th by FO last year and I'd wager my wife's good money that they'll improve on that this year.

Sure it's possible that they'll be worse, but maybe wait for a few preseason games to be in the record books before declaring it as a CF.

It is crazy to hear how much people are panicking that the OL they're practicing with is the one we'll have during the season. If a real game was being played this week, all of our starters would play - and probably McD at RT.
They're just keeping them in shape and avoiding risking practicing with injury - BECAUSE they know how important these starters are, and are counting on them for any chance of winning. RELAX. We'll be fine.

Wrong reasons? You mean because both Jones and Zappe underthrew him and it allowed the DBs to make plays?
Make whatever excuses you want for him brother. He’s had a hard time staying on the field or making a connection with the QB’s. He’s in his second season. I’d rather be reading about how he is out there making a huge difference than all of the other things we read, including your point. Speaking of your point, if he’s ready to make a huge impact and our qb’s just cant get it done them get rid of him. Its as simple as that. Doesn't fit what the team can do. I on the other hand believe the qb’s can get him the ball and he needs to spend more time with them and learn how to do a bit more than run fast. Fingers crossed.

Answer the question for me though DB. If he continues on the trajectory he is on and Boutte continues to develop and perform, what do you do? Me personally? Damn it would be a tough ass choice.

Ok, hardo. The rest of us can only hope we too will someday achieve the zenith of Patriots fandom that you so clearly have achieved in your own mind, by reveling in their weaknesses while deluding ourselves into thinking that we are the only fans who are aware of those weaknesses.

I'm disappointed that there are OL concerns this early, IMO that's on BB. Anderson, Reiff and mid round rookies aren't enough to fix the OL problems from last year.
You a stardawg champion by chance? Me personally? Im a stargazer sitting around wearing his crown of thorns wishing he was Shrangila!

Our most likely starting isn't available. I don't see how will be able to judge much for the play of the Offense for a few weeks.

Brown, Strange, Andrews, Onwenu, Anderson are all out. With all of them playing, we are likely to have an OK OL. However, we may have to wait weeks.

I put a starfish on my GF's butt cheek when she was sleeping...way back when. Wonder if she still has the outline from the starfish suckers...man, she dumped me quicker than Madonna at a Puerto Rican Boy Toy parade...

...
Mapu seems just as slick in coverage on TE’s as he is rushing forward at runners. He should make the middle of this D a lot faster.

...
I saw this also of Mapu but another thing I noticed was his excellent hands. They are like glue; oh man, he is going to be fun to watch. What an amazing draft ...I think....maybe we can find out for sure on Thursday night

Glad to hear Tyquan have a pulse. Not good that Mac and Zappe missed him on throws. OC BOB need to give them both the evil eye.

Yes, when the entire starting OL is out, it is a weakness. Name a single team in NFL history for whom that would not be the case after a few days of practice.

Boutte and Douglas will have entirely different roles on the offense than Thornton. They aren't competing against each other.

Maybe the Pats and Packers/Titans can just agree to do 7 on 7 during upcoming joint practices. LT Bakhtiari has been out of practice recently for the Packers, and their RT is getting snaps at center because there have been 5 fumbled exchanges from the current center. The Titans are counting on Andre Dillard (37 snaps last year) to start at LT, and they lost one RT candidate to gambling and another to starting fights in camp.

That is to say, the Patriots are far from alone in all of this.

Ronnie Perkins should have a field day.

It's not a tough choice. Feel free to continue to blame Thornton for the QBs under-throwing him. Feel free to ignore people who watch the practices and say that Thornton getting open isn't the problem.

Boutte is performing against the bottom end of the CBs. He's not Demario Douglas beating the likes of Jon and Marcus Jones.

If the QBs can't get the job done, you get rid of the guy who is doing his job properly? That makes zero sense. You're punishing the wrong person.
