Fournette & henderson jr working out for patriots today

He's never lived up to his draft position, but he's sort of a poor man's Rhamondre at this point, which could be fine. If you're looking for depth that can play 10-15 snaps a game to keep Stevenson fresh, he can do that without telegraphing to the defense what you're going to do while he's in there. I'm more in favor of waiting until camp to see how Strong/Harris look, then (if they don't look good) signing whichever vet back is still looking for a home. But in a vacuum as a player, they could do worse than Fournette.
Exactly correct! He would be depth and short yardage, goal line, he can still run between the tackles if needed. But I'm right on Parr with your post... keeping Stevenson fresh for the duration of the season is the key.. rham is our money back he can do it all.. he's one of the best all purpose backs in the NFL.

Strong and harris looked good in the very limited times they played last season.. they showed ability. With a season under thier belt they should be in position to contribute more. I even like the idea of founette lined up at H back. As you said it's more of a depth signing. Founette was a beast his rookie season though.. he ran pretty good against Patricia's defense in the 2017 AFCCG.

He makes sense in a similar way to how I talked about Zeke in the other thread. Cook, Zeke and Fournette could all fill that role, but there’s diminishing returns from a talent and wear & tear perspective there. However the price tag will also align at the same time. I would probably try to get Cook if I could, but Fournette or Zeke are fine consolation prizes. Fournette has a smaller ego.

I believe Bill is bringing him in for a look for an emergency further into the season such as Rham getting hurt or he doesn’t like what he sees in Harris or Strong, or Harris gets hurt.

i would rather just go into the season with what we already have on the roster. Fournette is just not that great at this point in his career.

I would probably rather get Fournette (or whoever) in now to learn the playbook and pass blocking schemes. If one of the young players beats him out, he is still depth and it’s only a few million dollars.

But......
Fournette $ < Cook $$$$
Therefore......

Can't wait to see the contract Incentives he can't reach get cute BB.

Agreed, he'd likely fill the role Robinson was supposed to fill. Fournette a veteran with big game experience, superbowl pedigree and still a hard runmner... injuries have slowed him.. but he’s still a serviceable depth back. Rbs are always knicked up... I feel more comfortable with him a veteran depth option.. he won't Impact the young guys becuase bill uses the roster maneuver better than anyone.. Fournette could be back and fourth on the practice squad all season if signed.

I don’t want to burn out Stevenson. I also don’t think Fournette is the answer. Not a single team is going to worry about Fournette. Elliot or Cook is a different matter IMO.
How many teams “worry about” backup running backs?

It’s a role. In the past what we have done with the #2RB is give them 1-2 drives per half and spot play otherwise. Fournette would be fine in that role
People thinking we are going to play 2 running backs together as some kind of trickery just don’t understand. If that is ever used it’s a gimmick.
We are looking for a backup RB, Cook would be great but the role is probably too small for him to be interested. Zeke or Fournette really is a question of whether the wear and tear has made Zeke less than Fournette, but I think after fewer Carrie’s last year and coming into this role with 100-150 carries Zeke would have a rebirth.
Splitting hairs between the 2 as backup RB though.

This would be like Gillislee were he only comes in on tight goal line formations on short yardage plays. It was so obvious and defenses would crash the play leaving Gillislee showing frustration when he kept getting stuffed.

Bucs did this with Lenny last year.

Move forward with Strong and Harris.

Teams would pay far more attention to Damian Harris if Rham went down than Fournette. Elliot and Cook would be an equal concern for defenses.

Either one zeke or fournette would be veteran depth signings.. they wouldn't be brought in to scare defenses.. I like fournette personally becuase he has played in big games, can catch out the backfield and is a willing blocker. He bring championship pedigree to a backfield with no big playoffs experience really.. IMO..

Agreed.. I believe harris wasn't resigned due to his durability.. since he was drafted he could never consistently stay on the field.. ultimately it opened up the opportunity for rham to play and become a great ascending back. I'll also say though rham is a guy OCs have to pay attention too..

No they really wouldn’t. I mean think about what you are implying. Damian Harris would make them alter their game plan and Fournette would make them forget about the running game?
I mean, come on, do you really think that defenses look at who is playing backup running back and “pay attention” to one and not the other?

Not trying to bust your balls but football just doesn’t work that way. Defenders okay the run the same way regardless of who the RB is other than being aware of differences in quickness or cutback frequency in order to change technique.
No lb ever said “oh he’s at running back I won’t pay the run”

I expected this. Third time may be a charm for Bill in his quest to sign Lenny.

No I never said that. No team is worrying about who the backup is…until they are starting.

No team will ever be concerned about Fournette starting in place of Stevenson. Every team would hope the Pats run.

Then I hope we sign him because it will be huge advantage to play against a defense that isn’t defending the run
