Hopkins Headed to Tennessee

Not sure you can make that claim off one player

But my first post was directed towards someone saying he was off to Tennessee to be irrelevant. Implying he missed an opportunity at relevance here. Which just isn’t the case anymore
He had a better chance at playoff relevancy here IMO.

also, for those saying Hopkins at $13million is too rich (which is funny considering Agholor got $11million) you do realize elite receivers generally go for $20+million now. so the $13million is about where he should be at given his age.
A Safe Two year deal should have been possible I think BB is going to regret not striking that deal when D-Hop puts up a 1000yds if healthy.

Ex-NFL Exec Believes DeAndre Hopkins Made Mistake Passing On Patriots

“I think he should’ve signed with the New England Patriots because he would’ve been the best player on a team that could’ve won the AFC East and even more, guys, had he gone there,” Tannenbaum said on ESPN’s “Get Up.” “So, to me, I understand you want to go where the money is, but at the end of the day, as a wide receiver signing in July, guys, if you sign with the best opportunity, that puts you in a great place for March of 2024, where he could’ve been the preeminent wide receiver (available in free agency) — maybe even in front of Odell Beckham Jr.

“So, he would’ve been the focal point of a New England Patriot offense that should be better with Bill O’Brien and a great defense. I understand why he followed the money, but the better football opportunity was in New England.”

Has nothing to do with the fact that they won the windy game.

You know they don't award style points, right? It's not figure skating, gymnastics or diving. I guess it's not enough to win, but you've gotta do it with style. Got it.
We are going to know very early what this Teams got last year Mac struggled all TC and it spilled over into the regular season.

And a style loss is still a loss we found quite a few ways last year remember.

I think D-Hop would have made this cast much better especially Juju. IF D-Hop makes former First Rounder Treylon Burks better in Tennessee BB made a foolish decision we had the $$$$. Some will disagree with this but most of BB's decisions on the Offensive side seems to think that #12 is still back there. The game may be passing him by the Patriots are not keeping up literally or figuratively. Another mediocre season might be on tap pray for injuries to the opposing Teams might be our only chance now.

There will be a game when as expected none of our average receivers are getting open against man coverage when it will become evident that we dont have any elite talent receivers.

There also will be a game we need to win which is a shootout and we will realize we showed up with a pop gun when they have an AK-47.

Eagles/bills/dolphins went out and said they need to support their young QBs with talented receivers like aj brown/diggs/hill. And ALL their performances improved.

While the Bill, dolphins and Jets improved Bill went out bargain shopping for the average incentive crew. Everything needs to go perfect for us to win games.

We will be better because BOB is a real OC and not a DC who doesn't know what he's doing (another bill masterclass decision) but there's only so much you can do with the talent given to you. Like the 2020 team

Will be another massacre when we face a real offense our defense can stop. And they only have to defend the likes of Juju and devante parker

I recall that people were posting his 11-11 in sevens, 14-15 vs full squad stats during camp, but I am not going back deep into threads to look. In the end, he needs to perform better, so your point overall is valid.

Losing sucks no matter how memorable.

That Gesicki is a great receiving weapon either way. Whether an offense can harness that is another question entirely.
How do you know? He hasnt been yet
Alex Smith targeted TE’s at a league leading pace. I said Kelce was great already… he’s also never played in a bad offense.
The Dolphins offense was pretty good last year no? With a pretty good coordinator?

Also Kelce gets targeted more now than he did pre Mahomes
I was talking about the players we do have.
I know, I am the one not accepting the fact that the rebuild should be never ending...They have a good enough roster to compete, and they did in 21 and did in 22.

Hoping for a once in a generation wind storm to win against the Bills is not exactly the own you think it is.

When we played them in the playoffs in regular weather we were embarrassed

That why sometimes I wish we had someone else shopping for the groceries to quote Coach cap "BB the Mediocre GM killing the Great HC."

Oh I got your point. It was stupid. But I got it.

I think you don't get mine.

Mac Jones has to win some ****ing games for this team, instead of puking away chances in the fourth quarter. Guys who are winners find a way to do what needs to be done. Mac has never done that. Never made the big throw. Never had that last second touchdown, never converted that 3rd and long when the game is on the line... he usually throws an interception or get sacked for -9 yards...

He needs to man up and make the throws when needed, he needs to learn how to get rid of the ball when he has to, he needs to learn how to read secondaries so he's throwing the ball to the guys who are open not the guys he wants to hit, which ultimately causes interceptions.

He needs to step up and win games.

Mac is two years in... Has he lead this team to one meaningful, significanty victory? The answer? That's one big fat No.

There's a reason Quarterbacks and Wins are synonymous. Don't like that idea it because its a "team" game, tough, learn to deal with that particular disappointment it because that's the way it is, and quite frankly its been like that for the last 30 years. The Mac Jones we've seen so far isn't a winner. He needs to do better. He needs to win games for this team.
Bravo! Terrifically honest take. Couldn't have laid it out any better but I would get killed if I had typed it. Preach, Pape!

I agree that the better football opportunity was in NE, though the Titties had one big advantage over the Pats there: the suckiness of the AFC South. Jacksonville should be the class of that division, but that franchise hasn't handled success particularly well since Coughlin left the first time.

It's not meant to be "own". They won the game, the coaching decisions were made to lesson risk and win the game, which they did. It was also two seasons ago, so it's really irrelevant now, as is that playoff game where they got their asses handed to them. This is the 2023 season, not the 2021. It has as much relevance as the 2022 season, which most of us want to forget.

Mac does need to be better. But it's also fair to question if Bill has put him in the best position to succeed

If the Jets put a DC in charge of their young QB and surrounded them with average receivers we would be admonishing them for ruining their young QB.

Compare that to Miami who gave Tua an offensive minded coach and went out and got him Tyreek hill. Tua is no more talented than Mac. If anything he's less skilled. Switch both those guys and I think the narratives are switched.

I am beyond baffled at how he let this guy slip through his fingers.

They get what they deserve.

True.....the AFCS is a stacked Juggernaut of exceptionalism while the AFCE is a division ripe to be trucked

Dam she was hot for a long time, like since Porky's...

But I think you mean the AFC South, which which I agree.

Bill ALWAYS has to feel he has the upper hand in everything he is involved with. Paying Hopkins over 2 years the same as Tennessee would have been a loss for him. His perspective in this aspect is out of touch with reality IMO. He’s able to adjust defensively with how the game has evolved (albeit not as quickly as some others). His in game defensive changes are still top notch. Drafting has improved greatly the past 2 years probably due to Kraft enforcing some new rules but it probably doesn’t apply at all or as much to free agents. The GM skills suck IMO.

I think there is something to be said for a “us against the world” mentality. “We are the underdogs” and “they said we weren’t good enough” …and I do think Bill fosters that mentality but I still think paying Hopkins Titan money was the right thing to do.

Tyreek, Metcalf maybe and Devante Adams get special attention.

The rest get your best CB and nothing else changes.
Bill has doubled Diggs before and definitely given him special treatment. There's no question about that. It's on tape.

Also, Adams does receive as much bracket coverage as anyone in the league. Closely followed by Kupp, Jefferson and Diggs. With Evans, Hill, Chase slightly behind them.

The idea that teams just throw their best CB and "nothing else changes" towards a WR1, is just false. And laughable considering all the exotics and variations defenses are using.

Good luck rooting for your new team. I hear the Jets are supposed to be good this year, even though THEIR MVP QB has one of the WORST records in leading come from behind drives in history. It was horrible when it was first brought to my attention back in the middle teens and I don't doubt it hasn't gotten better since.

Sorry man, that response WAS a bit hyperbolic and an overreaction, but the LEVEL of you anger and bitterness of your response just hit a nerve.

BTW- did you just MISS the entire 2021 season where he actually DID all those things you want him to do, or just didn't get the memo. Take a chill pill man.
Dude I am a homer thru and thru. Ask craw about that.

Everybody deserves criticism for the way the last two years have turned out. I am a BB guy. He deserves to be pilloried for what he did to this team last year. But I will continue to root for him, and I hope he continues on as our HC.

I will root for Mac Jones to right his ship and get on that championship track. I want Mac Jones to succeed. I would love for Mac to win games.

The front office need to reevaluate how they are running the organization. By not offering Hopkins a competitive contract we are now behind the proverbial 8 ball, when we had a chance to at least be competitive.

We need to tweak how things are done if we want to continue winning.

And I say we because I've given Robert Kraft enough of my money to qualify as a minority owner over the years
