Update: Curran says Belichick has been on the hot seat since 2019

BB friends are talking to Volin? Not a chance. Desperately grabbing at straws. But he timed the fairytale properly during the season downtime.
So what do you think happens if the team wins 7 games? Maybe Volin is just a douchebag but suggesting Bill may be on the hot seat if the team has a poor record doesn't seem like much of a fairytale.

So deferring to Bill is taking a decisive stance on the situation?
Yes it was. RKK took a pre-meditated approach with absolved himself of any direct finger-pointing leading to Tom's departure.
I think not my friend. Not a good look begging Tom to retire after he let him walk either. What he feared, happened, which confirmed his flimsy grasp on the situation.
You can frame it any way you want. It's what happened.

I think Kraft looks at everything before he makes a decision.

At this point they have a wicked hard schedule.

If they are competitive in games they lose against top teams and can eliminate coaching mistakes we've seen from years past (I'm still pissed they kneeled out against the Cowboys with Mac two years ago with almost 2 minutes left in the half, then lost).

If players are improving across the board and the draft picks again start showing promise (don't need to remind anyone that Belichick is also GM but it's helpful to remember to look at the entire package)

If Mac continues his poor play for half a season but Zappe comes in and lights it up, resulting in a skewed record.

If they are a few bad bounces/calls away from a 9-10 win season with a 7 win record.

Plenty more. I think that all factors.

Here's how I frame it - based on your characterizations - not taking a stance at all. For Christ's sake if the owner of the friggin team isn't putting even 1% into a decision about the greatest player in the history of the league then how can you believe he'll have any inclination whatsoever to do anything with Belichick? The same guy that RKK let handle 100% of the decision regarding Brady. According to you.

How about that no franchise clause? Nothing to do with RKK? All BB? GTFOH.

I'm in the purple corner, along with other sensible folks who understand how things work.

Trollin Volin at it again. Like say for the sake of argument they did fire Bill, who are you gonna replace him with? Like who would be BETTER than Bill Freaking Belichick?

A few bad bounces or calls away from 9-10 wins?... are we really going there again? Excuses and scapegoats, no more. Win or go to Nantucket.
I appreciate "you are what your record says you are" but last year I saw a highly competitive team that was just deficient in a few keys areas that couldn't be corrected. Or perhaps I should say that weren't corrected.

Edit: Also, was this not a playoff team last year but-for Jakobi's dumbass in Las Vegas?

We were a fraud team last season.

Totally believable.
Believing pretty much anything Volin writes just brands you an idiot. Volin is beyond stupid, is a Fins fan, and has zero sources close to the Pats.

You don't get it.

Kraft did take a position which was for Bill to come to a solution on Tom because a) thats what he pays Bill for and b) avoid any public tar and feathering.

Don't reply because i'm going to repeat myself again and again. Not my issue you don't agree, don't comprehend or don't like it.

Bob will provide more lip service with fans saying "they'll do better" and have another meeting with Bill to try to fix whatever went wrong. 9 out of 10 Coaches that are doing well right now have one thing in common, their QB is good to elite. Shanahan is the only outlier that is doing well with okay QB play. We've seen what Bill has done with good to elite QB play, so that's why I think Bob will keep delaying letting Bill go. Mac goes before Bill. The only way I see Bob and Bill parting ways is if they have anything less than 5 wins and Bill loses the locker room.

Unless the player is an idiot, the team simply can't negotiate franchise tags with players once they reach star status - the team has zero leverage. Imagine Tom being in his late 30's and signing a contract with a franchise tag clause.

Can anyone name a player that signed a big deal, but allowed them to be franchised the next go around? I'd be shocked if there was one.

BB’s close friends went off record to confide in a local reporter… sounds legit.

Also Brady was a free agent after 2019, it was his decision to leave, nobody else’s… but great job Crawdaddy trying to turn this into a Tom thread… again.

Here we go. Volin claims he's talked to his friends and they fear Bill is on the hot seat. In addition, Bob paid Mayo "a lot of money" to keep him away from other HC gigs.

“Robert Kraft already made it clear in March that he wants the Patriots to make the postseason and win a playoff game for the first time in five years,” Volin wrote. “He also paid Jerod Mayo handsomely to keep him off the coaching market and likely views him as the team’s coach-in-waiting. And Belichick’s friends have privately said they are worried that he is on the hot seat in 2023.”

"Friends close to Ben Volin think hes and idiot and has bad breath"

RKK wasn't decisive on the issue, which was my initial comment. We don't have to rehash everything but you can't possible justify that what happened was "best for the franchise." That's a crock of ****.

We'll see how you feel about it if the team wins 7 games. Plus you also thought Patricia was a great idea, so there's that.

Contradiction?

Not sure how you are defining decisive. He couldn’t force Brady to want to stay.
And it was best for the franchise. They were not in a position to win a SB before he retired and were able to use that money elsewhere. They are surely in better shape today that if he had stayed.

Oh, and now you have such a weak argument you lie about me rather than discussing the subject. I’ll take the W on that exchange by forfeit.

Kraft might talk a big game but will never fire Bill for on the field performance.
