Small Sample Size and cherry-picking games is yet another way to torture statistics into telling you whatever you want to hear.
They gave up 20 points to the Dolphins WITH Tua, and lost, then gave up 21 without Tua and won - but that one doesn't count for some reason to post "0-7."
Both games against the Bills were late in the year - the first one, their offense totally sucked and they lost, giving up 24 points to a great offense.
The second one was played without half their secondary. Dugger was hurt, Mills was hurt, in a game that meant nothing.
Context matters regarding defense. So does an offense that isn't turning the ball over repeatedly, can't stay on the field for more than one series, sucks in time of possession, etc.
Good NFL offenses will score. Period. The game has changed. The Patriots have a really good defense, that looks like it might be even better this year. If their offense can actually put some drives together and some TDs, not FGs, on the board, they can beat a lot of teams, even good ones. And they're getting much younger and much faster. Building a really solid core.
Back to the topic, I like the extension a lot. Bentley is getting better every year and he wants to play here. He should benefit as much as anyone on the team if Gonzo, Mapu, and the Joneses hold up as expected. The price is right for this extension, as for Parker (who I'm sure have lots of game availability bumps).
Now extend Dugger and Onwenu and Uche, if possible - I' put them in order of my expectation that they will resign here.
