Compete? Yes.
Compete was the wrong word sorry what I meant was do you think we could steal a game form Either Buffalo - the Chiefs or Eagles with our current WRs chart??

Wouldn’t they have saved more by cutting Parker for Hopkins ?

Of course Lazar's gonna like this move; he's a company man now.
And yes the Pats would've saved more by cutting Parker, but they still have room for both of them... At least I really really hope that's their plan...

Let's be clear, extending Parker is related to Hopkins only in the minds of posters. They are very different kinds of receivers.

Yes, we want Hopkins at the right price. However, we have even more 2023 cap money now. Our outside receivers are Parker and Thronton.
As of now, our slot receivers are Ju-Ju and Bourne.

We may or may not ger Hopkins or any other upgrade.

THIS DEAL was a good one for the team.

It is... But only if Hopkins is signed here.

ya know, this could also be a huge indictment on Thornton. We all thought one of parker/bourne would be the odd man out if Hopkins is signed.

what if it ends up being Thornton pinned to the bench and he just isnt that good...

Exactly. Don't understand why people are giving Thornton a top-3 spot when he's done absolutely Nothing whatsoever to deserve it.

Signing Hopkins makes us a better team;
Keeping both Parker and Bourne makes us a better team;
And having Thornton as our #5 instead of our #3 Also makes us a better team.

You're not listening to enough Lazar if you think he's just a blind company man. For one, he's always leaned on the side optimism, even before he worked for the team. Maybe optimism isn't the right word, but he tends to move on quickly from moves he doesn't agree with to find what could be the reasoning behind it.

As for takes since joining the Patriots, he summarily panned the Cole Strange pick (likes the player, thinks it was a reach to take ANY guard in the first round and was very vocal about that). He wants the team to sign Hopkins because he doesn't believe anyone on the current team scares a DC during their Tuesday gameplan session. So while he may like Parker as a player (indicated in this tweet), he's down on the Patriots WR group overall.

Don't be so quick to dismiss an opinion that isn't mouth-frothingly negative as just someone being a shill.

Sure as long as the targets lead to more points.
Let me put it a different way.
A guy who is capable of getting open a lot and catches 65% of his targets is much more valuable than a guy who can rarely get open but on the few occasions he does he catches 66% of his targets.

Really the best metric is per route.

But I think what you were getting at (separate from my point) is that all routes are not created equal and comparing catch% within 3 yards of the LOS to catch % 15 yards downfield is dumb.

Horrible deal. This guy is cooked.

He is pretty good when healthy. The question is whether he can stay healthy.

But the contract itself is nothing for a starting WR these days.

Steal? Absolutely. I don't think they are ready to be considered among the AFC elite, but this defense is going to be near the top of the NFL, so they don't need to put up 45 every Sunday.

It feels like signing Agholor all over again. LOL. Unless Parker had a WOW camp that makes them think he's our new #2 I'm not sure if this deal makes sense. If this move clears cap space to sign Hokpkins then I'm all aboard. Otherwise it feels puzzling because Parker had an inconsistent season for us.

Steal a game - yes.

Beating them consistently - no.
Fair enough: that said since Brady left we have been a mediocre Team that was expected. I feel the addition of D-Hop elevates us above that: it's been a while now.

When a QB throws a 50-50 ball, it is typically to a receiver that was supposed to get open, but didn't and the QB just trusts him to get the ball and tries to throw it to the best spot possible for him to win the ball.
Exactly. How many times did we make fun of "Jump Ball Joe Flacco"? It's a last resort/crunch time 3d down throw, not a full aspect of any offense.

This is the Forth year post GOAT QB its' time to get back to a competitive level against Good Teams BB can't Coach forever. Also we ain't playing the sisters of the poor this year very dauting schedule on paper. I don't want to sit through another mediocre season.

"Open" is a relative term. If the Qb throws the ball and it's caught then whether he is 3yards from the nearest defender or 3 inches during the catch is irrelevant. Agree frequency matters...to a point.

I agree if we are talking about a player who rarely gets touches but if a "big play" WR gets 15% less touches/routes run/catches than possession WR but has more yards, TDs and opens things up for other receivers and the running game then he is by far more valuble.

Correct. All routes are not equal nor is their purpose.

Jump Ball Joe placed the Football well and he had Guys who could fetch go get it. I don't think Parker is that WR he didn't show it last year and the CB's appreciated those picks.

We were mediocre in 2019 and a good part of 2018.

Gronk playing and having a committed offensive philosophy is what makes an OK offense good.

Look at these stats and tell me with a straight face Parker didn't win 1:1 balls regularly.

Too bad we have no Gronk caliber players on this current roster.

Really the best metric is per route.

Parker 1.84 yards per route which is like 80% percentile among receivers. But I guess that needs to be docked some by interceptions where he is involved in the play - a 50:50 ball where he catches 75% of the passes but 10% of those passes (no idea what the actual number is) result in an interception isn't a good bargain.

Hopkins a shade over 2, which is elite.
