PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

That Mac pouted and cried and threw things? I totally blame Bill for the lack of an OC and agree it hurt Mac’s performance and may have stilted his career, but Mac doesn’t get off free. He needed to man up and he didn’t always do that.

I never said Jones is blameless. I am saying the majority of the blame of the offense goes to Belichick.

“I never said Jones is blameless”

Yeah, and I never said the sky is blue …

… but I also never said it’s white, black, yellow, red, green, violet, or orange.

FWIW, it's been 2 and a half days since this story came out. If it was untrue, or at least partially untrue, Kraft or someone else on the team could've issued some kind of statement by this point. It's been silent.

I have repeatedly said that Jones deserves some of the blame, but he clearly doesn't deserve as much as Belichick or Patricia or the offensive tackles. I would put him like fourth or fifth on the blame pie.

Mac had 2 games last year he threw for over 300yds. In two games starting, Zappe threw for over 300 yards in one of them.
Mac had 3 games last year with a rtg of over 100. In two starts Zappe had a rating over 100 in both of the games he started.
Rob, stop making stuff up. Mac wasn't good enough last year and was outplayed by a 4th round third string rookie who was an afterthought for most of us.

Talk about making stuff up! Mac was not "outplayed by Zappe." The circumstances from which you're reaching for this wayward comparison were apples and oranges. Just hold your water on this looming clash of the titans until training camp.

Astonishing to hear the trolls here grunting as they decide whether they'd rather crap on Mac or on BB. I guess it's an embarrassment of fecal riches, as apparently there's plenty to go around for both Mac and BB with lots left over to spread on the rest of the team. Don't gotta love our trolls.
At least everyone in Foxboro is very well fertilized going into this season.

This "was it Mac or was it the coaches" argument should be over already. There's a reason Patricia/judge are no longer in their roles and O'Brien is.

Are we really going to defend Patricia and act like the offense and coaching was fine? to feed the Mac sucks narrative? Ignore the herald article and such?

If ANY other coach made the decisions Bill did the last year they would be on the street. Yet we are supposed to give him leeway because of the "past 25 years"

Where was that leeway given for Tom Brady who was shown the door? Who got low-ball offers from Bill because of his age? If we go by the same metrics then Bill has poorly mismanaged this team.

I feel like this is pretty irrefutable. Just playing devil's advocate what would the argument be- that the report is such nonsense it's "beneath" Kraft or Bill to quash it? I don't buy that for a second.

Bill and Kraft are out on his boat drinking margaritas this week, didn't see the article. No signal.

I doubt that. The team isn’t going to come out and publicly deny or confirm any report, they can’t have a reaction to every report that’s put out there. Whatever’s going non will be dealt with and talked about internally.

I personally find it hard to believe that they issued multiple press releases about their intention to hire an OC, who they were interviewing, who they hired, as well as a press release about keeping Mayo, but they won't say a word about an extremely hot story saying they have been shopping their top QB.

How anyone can put Mac Jones as a problem above Patricia/judge is beyond me.

Could he have handled it better? Yes. But knowing how dysfunctional the offense was from the herald article. I'm not sure how anyone would expect a 2nd year QB to excel in that.

I mean judge was removed mere weeks into the season. Patricia would tell the offense he didn't have a plan for how the defense would adjust to playcalls.

This is the stuff that we make fun of teams like the Jets for. And it was totally unavoidable.

The amount that fans want to ignore the elephant in the room amazes me. Yet in the same token we will hear about bradys poor stats last year "well he had bad coaching"

Those two press releases were to calm the masses so they don't lose ticket sales after fans were forced to watch the abomination of coaching last season.

Why would the team respond to rumors on the internet? I've never seen that happen

This isn't a report that Carl Davis showed up to camp 10 lbs overweight. It's concerning a potential trade at the most important position in professional sports and has resulted in a national media ****storm. Why would they not refute the report it if was patently false?

It's mostly trolls being trolls with a bit of Zappe-ness as well.

Giving up on Mac after last year is way premature. Yes, he regressed and was a below average starter, and as much as we might want to blame Patricia et al, last year was no credit to Mac.

But he's only a 2nd year QB, and many QB's -- particularly "pocket" QB's -- are late bloomers.

He set NCAA records at Alabama, and as much as his detractors want to credit that to his WR's, Tua had basically the same cast and Mac was at the very least no worse than Tua, who last year was 2nd in the NFL in DVOA and 3rd in QBR. How the hell anyone can know that Mac given weapons can't do as well?

Mac also had one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history.

So yes he regressed, but there is obviously lots of upside for Mac. This next season will be for the marbles with him.

You did have Kraft give a full throated endorsement of Jones at the owners' meeting. In fact, he sorta threw Belichick under the bus for his regression last year.

After that, why would Kraft make a statement?

He’s a mild mannered reporter who isn’t out to make waves or burn bridges. He’s in it for the long term.

Ahmed’s assessment isn’t far off the mark.

But Ian is also correct

Ahmed's assessment is crap in regards to Reiss. Reiss is the EPITOME of good Sports reporter. What makes a good reporter, let alone a good Sports reporter, is something that Boston Fans have forgotten.

Reiss, Howe, and others know what integrity and ethics actually are. Unlike entities like the Herald, Globe and ESPN. Just because someone has ethics and won't stoop to running unsubstantiated stories doesn't make them a team shill.

Zappe wouldn't fair much better then Mac in his second season. Bill will be fired before he realizes he just can't roll out there with any scrub QB and win. He absolutely underestimated what Brady meant to the Patriots and how great a QB he really was.

Yep, totally underestimated Brady, only kept him for 20 years.
