PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

He hasn't proven he's a starting NFL quarterback?
Do you want starting QB or the best QB available. Zappe might be better than Mac and they already know it. They might think the two of them are dead even and want the fire of competition to push one to the top. They might just want to light a fire under Mac’s ass to get him to the pinnacle. BB pushed, cajoled Tom Brady… Mac hasn’t proven ****.

Gronk showed up at Gillette for a motocross event despite skipping team workouts because he wanted more money. He was interviewed at that event and uttered some stupid “zoom zoom” comment.

The next day BB had a trade in place with Detroit, Brady marched into Kraft’s office and complained… something you’ve argued in the past never occurred when it was AB and Sanu… then Gronk came back to play on his original contract with some incentives attached that he never reached.

He wasn’t going to win at poker with Bill because Bill was willing to walk away and trade his butt to Detroit. It was about money, not feelings.
Gronk reached his incentives in Tampa Bay. Brady made it happen on his last pass of the regular season. It meant more to both of them than just a single season accomplishment. Thanks to BB.

C'mon - y'all know BB is just waiting for JGlass to break - heck maybe even in TC and McD will cough up a 2nd or even higher since he'll be desperate to save his job.

The Patriots won a Super Bowl in 2018 because they switched from a pass first team to a run first team prior to the playoffs. The 2020 Bucs did the same thing.

The goal is a ring, not a fantasy football championship.

If they do Kraft should use the same line he did about Lamar: Belichick makes those decisions. And then toss them out of his office, or hang up on them. Because that would be another example of Mac undermining BB’s authority.
It's pretty evident the relationship is strained RK likely intervened and probably genuinely likes Mac.. either the HC and QB are going to bury the hatchet and move along for the betterment of the teams success of amicably part ways..

I find it amazing that there are so many people on this board that are nothing more than puppets when it comes to stories about this team. Especially when the "reporter" who bring the information hasn't broken a story about the team in forever.

When was the last time Chris Simms broke a story about this team?
When was the last time Felger broke a story about this team?

The same can be said about Tomase, Volin, and a lesser extent, Bedard.

Yet, as soon one of them posts anything, that is a brigade on here waving it around as if it's the Gospel. Regardless of whether or not they have anything but a SINGULAR source. If it wasn't so pitiful, it'd be hilarious.

It's mind-boggling how people ignore the LEGIT reporters like Reiss, Daniels, Lazar, Howe, etc. Guys who actually have legit sources inside the team and who make sure they have more than an unverified source.
It is the offseason - hanging onto every piece of rumour is par for the course. Plus the team created the environment for them to be questioned after the ****show that was last year. He also could have put a lot of this talk to bed when he got asked about Mac in the owners meeting and responded with we all need to be better and compete including Mac. You can't say that about a 2nd year QB who struggled last year and not expect smoke.

I don't believe the report as I don't think Bill can afford to get rid of Mac right now and start over after the last 3 years. That said, do you really think it would be out of character for Bill to do this after last year? I don't. It is very much Bill's playbook to get rid of people who don't towe the line (which Mac did not do last year) and people who he thinks are no longer worth keeping (the list is long so I will spare us the names).

Finally, Reiss (nice guy and no issues with him) is one step removed from being the team's spokesman and only reports what the team wants him to.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with what you're saying.

I think Mac has proven he's not that good. Zappe looks better to me already. I support trading Mac, either for Lamar or Rodgers (plus whatever else it takes), or for whatever asset they can get in return and building up a better supporting cast around Zappe for 2023.

But my point still stands... nearly every team in the NFL will know who their starting QB for the 2023 season will be heading into camp. Including the Patriots if they trade Mac. Otherwise, apparently they won't, which is a bad thing.

That last line about Reiss is dead-wrong.

Reiss has integrity, relies heavily on verifying multiple sources, and attempts to be fair/diplomatic as a reporter. But you’re wildly wrong if you think he’s a mouthpiece for the team who is unwilling to ask tough questions, or report tough information about the team.

The guy has character and ethics; distilling him down to a team propaganda guy is way off-base.

This is a nothingburger.

When you've got two individuals who are at the absolute top of what they do - there has literally never been anyone better than either Belichick or Mac at their respective positions in the history of this sport - then you are bound to be dealing with two alpha males with huge egos who are likely to clash at some point. That's all it is.

Belichick isn't trading away his franchise QB. Don't be naive.

LOL - in 2020, Brady had 4600 yards and 40 TD and added 10 TDs and 1000 yards in the playoffs. They were 4th in passing and 28th in rushing.

Yes the run was much better in the playoffs but to say run first team is a lazy and narrative driven argument.

Good point. Had they not done that then Brady would have averaged 550 yards per game in the playoffs as opposed to 350. Sony was unbelievable on those three consecutive 3rd-10 conversions in OT of the AFCCG too.

The 2020 Bucs did the same thing.
Right, they brought in the GOAT QB so they could rely on the run game. Brady did only have 50 TD passes in 2020.

No issues with him and did not mean it as an insult. My point is he would never break something this controversial on the team. He is very much about keeping a cozy relationship with the team. I have no problem with that but I know his lane and would look for him in that lane only.

Mac for Aaron Rogers straight up… don’t even want him that bad but to screw the Jets and give Zappe another season to learn would be priceless.

Hilarious how people think this is impossible when it is literally Bill's MO.

Brady was an established and elite QB. You can say whatever about him and nobody would blink. A second year QB with last year's results needs 100% unconditional support in the media (i.e. what Kraft did). Anything else just invites talk and questions.

The moment Bill said we all need to do better and compete including Mac and did not say he is my starter, he invited this ****storm.
