PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

I watched his podcast on YouTube with Hurley and he is definitely saying that he has talked to someone before the Florio story came out that told him that Bill was trying to trade Mac.

The video is time stamped

Thanks for sharing - I have this on the docket to watch myself but haven't gotten to do so yet. I definitely read his story as him saying he spoke to one source who confirmed this, but the way it was written was not clear-cut. Kyed has good sources, so I am inclined to believe him if he's confirming the story.

Then the games will become outscore the opponent rather than hold em to under 24 points cuz the defense will weaken.
It’ll work, too. For three or four games.

Until Lamar is injured.

"Sullivan Era Dysfunction"?

Hart has no idea wtf he is talking about.

......all based on a speculative piece by friggin Florio.

This is why I don't watch any of this crap except when it's posted here.

Sullivan era dysfunction is way over the top, but Belichick has seemed to create a lot of dysfunction the past few years unnecessarily.

If Bill doesn’t think he can win it all with Mac as I’ve been saying since last year why not move him if you identified your guy?
Second point is if Bill doesn’t feel he can trust him anymore as a man as a leader than Bill will trade him.

I have to wonder if they have got to sit down and iron things out.
I think Bill is a tough person once you get in that dog house.
We’ve seen it for years, I don’t know why we are shocked.

He cut off lifetime friends in Mangini and Crennel.

It’s not far fetched to think he doesn’t want to work with Mac.
At his age and the power Kraft has given him BB has the say.

If Kraft wants Mac he needs to have the situation mediated or be prepared to lose Bill and start the Mayo era.

However Bill was right when he stuck with Tom over Drew and In some ways when he took Vinnie over Bernie,

I said Mac was Josh Rosen and his career is going down that path.

Thinking about it... I think I would as well.. the league has trended towards mobile QBs.. when you can move the pocket everyone's open.. my feelings are this:

Either with this reporting Mac's camp respectfully goes to RK and ask for a trade.

Or he ends up traded to SF for Lance..

Lance is more realistic Becuase he's on his rookie deal.. my opinion

Why would the Patriots trade for Trey Lance? If the 49ers are willing to trade him after two years and never having a chance to prove himself on the field after they spent three first round picks on him, that means he is wash up. Why would the Pats want to trade for another team's trash?

I do know this. Belichick freakin loves Lamar Jackson. He’s a different animal. So quick and fast.

But he never lasts a full season.

I wonder as Kraft gears up for Passover sundown tonight what he is thinking. I imagine he’s seething.

It's amazing to me that the overwhelming consensus on here has always been that Mike Florio is full of **** and just a clickbait peddler. Until of course he has a story about discord in the Patriots camp, then he's beyond reproach and far more plugged in sources are dismissed.

Not being patient enough to let them to work through it is going to be a killer no matter who it is.
Same with a total restart - whether QB or coach (and staff incl. GM). Continuity is a measure that tends toward AT LEAST achieving near the mean of previous years. Granted there is a new OC (with similar/same system), but a full reset to a new rookie QB or new coaching staff could just as much guarantee 3-5 wins than it does having the opportunity for double digits (wins).

Older link, but the premise remains sound:

If Bill Belichick was thinking of Lamar Jackson, or even of bringing back JImmy G, he would have been horribly negligent to not go out and discern what he might be able to get for Mac Jones in a trade.
If it's going to cost 2 1st-round picks for Lamar, but Mac would bring back a high-second, for example, there's a bit of an offset. You need to know the offsets in a business decision like this. That doesn't make it personal.

I mention this because, given the conflicting reports, it sounds like maybe BB tried to gauge any market that would be out there for Mac Jones. It could be simply that, business. Few think Mac is as good as Lamar (he's not - not even close at this point, but we'll see). Kraft is clearly getting itchy - he doesn't like losing. He wants to be in the conversation in January and February (unlike the Red Sox ownership).

Lamar could do that. Maybe even JImmy G - or at least, the Jimmy G BB apparently loves.

Boston sports provocateurs get their hands on a casual whisper and it turns into OMGWTFBBQ!!!!!! Because that's what they do.

Watching Doug Kyed's podcast where he discusses sources.

- He says he talked to one source, actually asking that source about tension between Bill and Mac and not about trade stuff (this was before Florio's story), and the source told him "there's definitely tension and frustration that goes both ways" but that the source also very directly said that Bill has been seeking to trade Mac.
- Kyed then said he wasn't going to publish the trade comment as news, because he doubted he could get verification from the team side, but Florio's story came out so he decided to pursue it based on that, and when he reached out to a source with the Patriots, the response was "well, we haven't gotten a good offer yet" which seems to imply they are indeed engaged in talks.

Putting 2 and 2 together here - if Kyed went to a "team source" secondarily, then that means his first source was someone who is not a team source. This first source was also someone who he had reached out to to discuss tensions with Mac.

So... what source could there be that A) would know about Mac being on the trade block and B) have inside knowledge about Mac's situation in the building while also C) not being a team source?

Answer? My earlier hunch is proving to look possibly correct - the source is Mac's agent.

Real question is, does he want to remain with the team after all of this drama? If he balls out, if I were him I’d explore my options.

Mac is on a rookie contract- he has no options (while making $4to $5M a year). L Jackson is exploring his options and no team is interested - do not think Mac will fair any better.

I think dysfunction is too broad of a term.

Agree but I think it needs to be looked at on a case by case basis based on aspects of the operation.

There is dysfunction with the draft/poor spending choices - Yep

There is coaching dysfunction- Fat Matt, systemic errors not getting plays in, too many men, etc.

There is performance dysfunction- players playing poorly when they should not.

There is dysfunction in the coach/player/owner relationship- Mac/BB and BB/Brady.

I don't blame all of this on BB but he certainly is in a position to prevent/mitigate it.
