PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

Your last point is what it's probably all about. It makes me think about how much "freelancing" was going on with the offense... Mac scrambling for 15 seconds repeatedly for no reason in the one Bills game... Meyers throwing the idiotic lateral in the Raiders game... I wonder if Bill feels like the offensive side of the ball is just a huge mess that isn't taking coaching properly and it's coming from the top down (Mac).
I think there's probably some truth to Zappe running whatever he's told and Jones potentially overthinking it because it went against what he was taught. The real question is just obviously how deep this really goes and whether or not it will be water under the bridge, or spill over into this season. Time will tell, I guess.

What is he worth?

It's the same as Lamar Jackson. Nobody wants Corky.

Speaking for myself, I didn’t fall in love with the Brady pt. 2 narrative, but I was struck by how well Zappe played and found his poise, pocket presence, timing, rhythm, and decision making to be a breath of fresh air in contrast to what Mac had shown.

I can’t speak for others, but my affection for Zappe was based largely on his on-field production.
But the biased Mac Supporters and they know who they are would say the Bears game exposed Zappe who's well on his way to being a career back-up.

It's less about bias or being a "Mac Supporter" and more about wanting to let things play out with the first guy when you've got three+ years remaining to then see how Zappe performs. Again, most of us who have followed this league for any period of time knows that that you really don't know what you have in a guy after one year, or even a down second year. If that was the case, Devin McCourty wouldn't have lasted hear either after his second - or even part of his third - season. Patience is crazy important.

It’s all about the eyeball test.

Zappe had more control of the offense made Patricia look like he wasn’t an idiot we had some people on here saying he was finding his groove and maybe Bill knew what he was doing after all.
Reinserted Mac and Patricia is a Moron.

Yea, I never really got this. He didn't play great but Brady didn't play well in all his games in his second year in the league after he took over for Bledsoe. Mac didn't play well in all his games as a rookie, or a second year player for that matter. It was like people were looking for a reason to dismiss Zappe, didn't make sense then and doesn't now.

Plus weren't the Patriots in the playoff hunt until the last game last year?

Question is do we trust Dan Orvolosky or Bill Belichick.

They could make this whole circus go away by simply saying Mac is our quarterback. Or by just trading for Lamar.

I know its not Bills MO to talk about this stuff, but why allow a circus of uncertainty, it helps nothing. I don't buy that Bill would do this to light a fire under Mac. He already knows he has to play better, and he wasn't the sole underperformer last season, so scapegoating him is something Bill shouldn't do.

Sean Payton had it right saying Jeudy isnt being traded. Even if he does get moved, it immediately stops the media frenzy and makes the player feel wanted if he ends up staying.

Brady won the superbowl his second year in the the league after taking over for Bledsoe....Mac is not Brady, what Brady did is meaningless to what Mac is or will be, they are two different humans that are 23 years apart. One has no bearing on the other.

This stuff boggles the mind.

I get liking Mac. I get finding him endearing and rooting for his success. All fair.

What I do not understand - at all - is this notion that Mac is a sacred cow deserving preferential treatment and consideration. What in the world has he done to earn that? Consistent, high quality play? No. Accrued time in the league? No. Why the hell should Mac be the starter by default, and be protected from an open competition with Zappe (or anyone else for that matter)?

Would folks feel this way if Mac was drafted in round 4-5 instead of round 1?
I totally agree.

Believe it or not, I'm neutral on Mac Jones. He had a promising year 1, but he clearly went backwards and regressed in year 2.

Mac Jones has done nothing to suggest that he's the next Aaron Rodgers.

I really don't see why he's getting such a devoted defense as if he's a 'sacred cow' as you put it.

What has he done to earn that devotion? Nothing.

If BB trades Mac Jones, he can always call it a 'football decision' even if the real reason is that he got salty for Mac Jones going behind his back and talking to other coaches during the Patricia/Judge debacle.

Bottom line, we root for the laundry, we're not in charge of the football decisions.

If BB trades Mac Jones then we just need to accept it, move on and look forward to who will be the next QB.

In this case where there is smoke there is fire. After the McCourty interview about Steve Belichick I believe most of what I read these days. The hiring of Patricia and Judge alone says enough. The team has become an absolute mess. Apparently Kraft thinks the same as he was noncommittal to Belichick during his interview with the losses piling up.
What did he say about Steve?

BB gave Steve the DB coach job and Steve basically walked into the room and said "I have no idea what I'm doing" to the DB's he was coaching.
And then then McCorty went on to say what an amazing coach he was and how they all learned together and came together as a team. Don't be fake news

Brady didn't play in his first year. He struggled in some games his second year. Sorry, you probably don't remember that. Young qb's struggle at times. I think Bill is very much against using a rookie qb, we see it time and again. He only used Mac because he beat out the corpse of Cam Newton. He didn't plan on using Zappe but events forced his hands, and when Mac was healthy he came back.

I don't care which of them starts, I just want whomever to be the best one we have.

I told that part of the story correctly.

I figure that's the part that the negative Nancys want to hear anyway.

There have only been a few players that Belichick made exceptions for and that was late in career ...
Troy Brown and Roman Phifer come to mind ...
Me ... Mac is gone ... cannot have a 2nd year player doing this or any player ... it is insulting.
Making exceptions for players ... damn ... he has fined and benched players for being 5 minutes
late to practice on a day after a major snowstorm .... and F'ck Felger ... damn idiot supporting Mac.
