The thing is if anyone offers him less, the Ravens have the right to match any offer. So either they just sign him or force the team trying to acquire for him to give up more than the two first rounders in compensation.
its like when we signed wes welker to the offer sheet... we woulda gave up a 2, but worked out a deal with miami

I think we can do that here, work a deal with baltimore... we added a 7th i believe for welker... so maybe lamar for a first and, what? a sixth? i'd make that deal

Maybe Lamar would take less to play here.

2 1sts a future second and trading Mac to say Tenn for a future second.

It’s a lot to give up I don’t think Bill will do it.

Future First, Sixth and Mac for Lamar... save ourselves a first round pick... they wanted to sign Baker Mayfield ffs... they need a QB...

no one is going to pay Jackson $50M a year.

That is the going rate for these new QB contracts. Watson got 5/230, Murray got 5/230, and Daniel Jones...DANIEL JONES got 4/160.

The average annual value of these contracts are 46, 46, and 40 respectively. Rodgers and Mahomes are in that neighborhood.

Burrow is about to get a new deal to re-set the market again.

Lamar can reasonably expect a 5/250 offer. The Ravens were reportedly offering something "far more than 40 million a year" with at least 100 million guaranteed.

If the Ravens would let Lamar walk for less than two first rounders...I think someone would pay him 5/250.

Jeremy Fowler reporting Lamar ISNT demanding a fully guaranteed contract.
That demand was just another way of getting himself out of Baltimore. He knew Baltimore wouldn't/couldn't give him a fully guaranteed contract. He's requested a trade, and he made it public, so that relationship is over. Now that he's backed Baltimore into a corner of having to trade him, he'll accommodate the reality of the situation and back away from "the demand" (which he was only using as leverage against Baltimore anyway).

I'm wondering if the Jets aren't regretting hitching themselves to that Rodgers drama now that Lamar is clearly available. NYJ would be a perfect fit for Lamar. I think the 49ers should take a serious look at Lamar too, he would look great in Shanahan's offense. In the meantime I'll keep dreaming of Lamar on the Patriots even though it seems likely Belichick is just going to inch his way toward Shula with Mediocre Mac.

With Aaron coming to town, Bill should make the trade if he wants to avoid a last place finish.

I feel like the more we see reports patriots aren't interested in Lamar the more I believe they are.. I would absolutely love to have Lamar even for 3 to 4 season what excitement he would bring. With BOB devising ways to utilize his skill set, the way he breakdowns down defenses, Lamar would allow everyone to be open.. imagine Lamar and rham wearing down defensive lines..

He'd have Allen and Rodgers on the sidelines while we are on 7,8 minute drives..

I don't think the Patriots are interested in Lamar. At All.

I am interested in Lamar. I want to sign him to piss off Asante Samuel.

I think you need to think about what you are thinking about. See the 21st post in this thread (its marked #21 in the upper right corner... aka the first post on the second page) to understand why i think you are overthinking your thinking in this thread.

again, you are overthinking your thinking when you are thinking about this particular thread.

See the very first post on page 2 for an explanation... yeesh

Why you ask?

Read:

Yup. Sign the Beast just to piss off Asante "Drops The Easy Int" Samuel. Im all in. Hook, Line and the mofo Sinker

Two first rounders? Not an issue.

Big Contract? Model it on Mahomes deal, Kick the can down the road if needed.
While I admire your ability to continue that grudge (I'm also bad about that) - this one falls under "you don't cut off your nose to spite your face" and I feel like overpaying and bringing in a guy who probably will be out of the league in 4-5 years at the rate he's going doesn't make much sense. Not to mention, he had that one game where he came back into and saved the Ravens (I forget the year/opponent) late, but aside from that, he hasn't proven he's clutch enough to get you to or win in the AFC Championship game in the 4th quarter with the game on the line.

Either way, I'd prefer the next guy to last 10+ years and be consistently available. I just don't see Lamar falling into that category given his history, and I'm guessing that's also why he's not willing to gamble on himself beyond what he did this past season without a big guaranteed deal.

For the life of me I don't get what assante Samuel's beef is with BB.. you came in as a 7th round pick, given an opportunity to become a starter..

I mean we all know BB can be tough to play for... But it's becoming annoying listening to this guy.. come on man.. let it go..
My hypothesis: I think he probably liked it here, he wanted to be treated (IE have his azz kissed) like he was a #1 corner (he wasn't) and be paid like he was a #1. He knew if he stayed here, he'd likely win more rings and get himself in the HoF. Instead, he had to go to Philly after being rejected by his first true love, the team that drafted him.

Or, he's an asshat.

Ian, I respectfully disagree. I am more that willing, and capable, of cutting off Robert Krafts and Bill Belichicks nose (a financial metaphor here, I don't actually want to cut off their noses, capiche?) in order to Spite Asante Samuel in this specific instance.

The only thing that would have made me happier is if we drafted his kid.... LOL, now THAT would have been funny

and dont worry about injuries... @Lavictoire came up with a brilliant solve... bring in Kaep as his back up

I agree. I didn't want Lamar Jackson, but now I am all in on #FAsante

LOL, I meant our noses since we care about what the team does on Sundays ... I just don't think it would end well and it would tie up too much cap space. Plus, again, I can see him being out of football in a few years unless he changes his style of play. Kid's got a cannon for an arm and he's obviously got great athleticism. But we've only seen a handful of those types of players last for any period of time in this league and it's still hard to say whether or not he'll be an exception to that rule or not.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not wishing anything bad on him and I hope that isn't the case, but you can't get hit by linebackers and safeties over and over again without a consequence. Something will definitely have to give at some point.
