BGC 2023 WR/PTP Thread

Why would they need to trade up to get him?
I donno if they really like him and feel someone in the beginning of 4th round might latch onto him. So if he is still available in 4th and we need to do a slight trade up, we should do it. We can't have 11 rookies in the 53 . Better to get the ones who have the best chance to make the team.

I can see Chaz going in the 3rd due to teams thinking "he's the next Larry Bird Cooper Kupp." He's been listed around 188lbs everywhere, so it sounds like he made the smart decision of losing weight (5'11.3"/176) to get faster for the Combine/Pro Day. All people will remember is 4.43/6.81/4.15.

Edit: huh draft scout has him projected in the 3rd

Unless there's a Huge run on WRs, there's no way I'm considering using Any of our 4th-rounders on Charlie Jones. We need to do better than that coming out of this draft.

You do realize that WR is probably the deepest position of the draft so, yes, there is likely to be runs on them.. So, spending a 4th rounder on Charlie Jones would be fine.

If the Pats walk out of the 1st 3 rounds with a starting LT, Starting CB and a TE, then "settling" for Jones in the 4th seems reasonable. Oh. Wait. this is YOU we're talking about. Everyone sucks unless they're the crap you want.

Especially considering the lack of "quality" FA WRs this year.

@BaconGrundleCandy

Thoughts on Zakhari Franklin? I stumbled upon his tape over the weekend and, although I haven't done a deep dive by any means, I'm pretty impressed, I'm seeing a far better player than I expected to see. I think he tracks the ball really well.

I watched a ton of him over the last few years with Cephus and Clark.

"Franky" has a rep down south. Multi sport athlete. Tough player, good kid. He's made more than a few one handed catches in game and practices over the years. Heard he's always making them in practice. Very productive by today's standard.

Love his potential in a timing offense that will move him around and give him a few manipulated touches. Slot/Z. Tons of effort and Smarts. Limited in terms of twitch, physicality and position. He's smart though and what he lacks athletically. He'll block his butt off but isn't a difference maker there. He needs to get stronger. He's got some playmaker in him though. Good rr just not a blazer in any area but efficient. Again good kid. I think he could be a very good wr4/5

FYI, he opted to stay another year, so he won't be available until '24. I get a kick out of his celebrations. Also supposedly has giant Terry Glenn sized hands (10 3/8").

No one man can bring down Quentin Johnson. Lacks the speed to be megatron. Plays as big as he looks.

QJ is the classic Big WR that all the draftnics love and that BB hates. It will be hilarious if QJ is still on the board at 14 and the Patriots...pause....pause...trade back. I want to be at Gillette or a draft party when (if) this happens....

My post was pre-2022 season. I no longer think of QJ as a lock for a top 10 pick. He didn’t make that leap and maybe it had something to do with how good the TCU run game was but I’m no longer a big fan.

I wonder if he did any agility testing...

Yes. He did. Though I haven't found the numbers. His Agent didn't help him any, though. He got into an argument with some of the Scouts who wanted Johnson to run the 3 cone a 2nd time and his agent didn't want it. Johnson acquiesced to the Scouts..

I'm trying to confirm which scouts. Ik he NYG, NEP and a few others spent considerable time poking him.

Pats had Belichick there. Giants had Daboll. The yahoo article I read specifically said Scouts. If if had been the HCs that the agent got into it with, that's what woulda been reported.

I like the size and the long strides for Johnston, but he doesn’t run great routes and often catches with his body. He’s the type of player I would want a team to draft if they had a documented history of developing receivers, I think he’s too much of a project for the Pats.

Give me JSN, Zay or Addison over him.
