Patriots Player Departure Patriots to Release Jalen Mills

I dont understand why this should be a surprise. Every player remaining on non guaranteed contract is a possible or even probable cut . bc unless they agree on a new deal there will be problems throughout offseason. The fact he wasn't released earlier suggests they were trying to work something out.

He did well in re to the contract but was significant liability in games that mattered even when healthy.
His biggest selling trait - versatility - is actually his biggest problem. He plays corner as safety and would prob play safety as corner - so the problem is he is truly neither. A “swing“ DB that is nice to have backing up but hard to use against top O.

I see, ok so signing him then would still be a good move.. I never really saw Bourne or Juju as slot WRs I saw them as guys that can line up anywhere and find the spots in the defense.. Juju specializes in YAC, Bourne similarly can do the same things. Mckenzie is the quick 1st step can make DBs miss type of player that would be great for us..

But as you stated CB has risen to the greatest need right now.. more than any other position..
I guess what I’m saying is that if you‘re going to pay real money to an exclusive slot guy, then it might as well be to one of the best in the business like Welker and Amendola. McKenzie and Berrios are both ok in the position, but both were cut by their old teams because they were too expensive and not providing elite-like production for that money. I assume Berrios’ new contract with Miami pays decent money. Meanwhile, Bourne and JuJu can both play it like you said - so rather than paying real money for a limited slot-only guy who can do ok there (McKenzie or Berrios) why not just have both JuJu and Bourne on the field at the same time, each alternating between slot and outside as needed for play design / confusion?

Nothing wrong with having a cheap rookie / first contract guy there too who shows well in camp. It’s spending real money on a guy who’s not Welker/Amendola when you already have 2 guys capable of playing the position in addition to playing the outside, that’s where I have my concern.

@Wozzy your thought? (If you haven't already given them.) I believe you really liked Mills.

Belichick has a special teamer who plays safety ready to step in....

He was decent but I wasn't his biggest fan. Plus he was mia every time the Bills destroyed us. I sort of felt like he missed those games on purpose to not be exposed with everyone else. Not there when you need him sort of like Talib.

Next step is to cut Myles Bryant someway somehow. He looks the part but has zero ball skills and doesn't jostle any balls loose. It is Jonathan Wilhite all over again.

There are probably a dozen corners on the market who can replace Mills and several who should be an upgrade.

Its also an incredibly deep draft at corner (as it is as TE). One of my criticisms of our drafting in recent years is that we haven’t leant into draft position groups when they are loaded. Hopefully that changes this year as it’s the perfect time to rejuvenate CB and TE.

If we land WR Jerry Jeudy via a Trade a CB in the First Round is fine by me.

I would love to see Myles get an opportunity with one of the other 31, but all due respect, Myles of Space is an All Pro compared to Jonathan Wilhite. Now I hope the nightmares don't come back. ;)

I think Bill lurks here and does this **** to **** with our heads.
He definitely does. I can see BB as a massive online troll while he will never admit to it and feigns ignorant of things like myface. Breaking tablets on the sideline is part of his long con lol.

Definitely understand and makes perfect sense! I also wanted to make mention that the organization is getting alot criticism for how they are approaching FA.. me like most fans over course I'd want that Game changer.. But I'm starting to come the realization that unless we turn the tables on everyone and trade for LJ then it's the draft flowers is the guy that peopl are talking about.. it feels like that's where the team is going to look to improve. Your right if Mckenzie can come on a cheap deal wich I think he will then it's definitely worth it.

If no moves are made I think pick 14 is corner, most pressing need at the moment.

I am pretty sure last year was the last year of his deal.
@Ross12 I was just harping on the fact that Williams was a bust and had he worked out and been a player for us then we would be in a better position at CB.. just making mention to my last post..

I'd go with an elite safety if one is available. The defense falls off a cliff without good safety play and for years we had McCourty and Chung holding down the fort. We need someone long-term to pair with Dugger.

Rookie Jack Jones before his run in with BB was our Best CB. I can't want to see year two Jack Jones. We only need one shut down CB to make it work with what we already have I don't see CB as a pressing need. That said I am not opposed to one early just not in the Second based on past history.

He was doing really good and will be better in 2023.

Don't forget about 2nd round bust Terrance Wheatley...
