Renfrow is on the outs. Meyers will be the starter. McDaniels is paying him like one.
If they are replacing Renfro with Meyers that makes it even worse.

Even if Renfrow is on the outs, you still have Adams and Hollins to share receptions. And their QB is Garoppolo. He isn't going to get a thousand yards next season.

I said in the other thread. I have been saying for weeks that I was not all that high on re-signing Meyers. He isn't a YAC guy. He struggled to run rub routes in McDaniels' system. The Pats desperately need someone who can run a rub route and catch the ball quickly and get at least 4-5 yards after the catch on a consistent basis.

He is going to to Vegas to be potentially the third WR on roster. He will not be playing the role the Pats need.

Personally, I would rather trade for Jerry Jeudy and sign Berrios. They are better fits for what the Pats are likely going to do this season.
Your in my head.

Meyers got 700+ with Cam Newton and 800+ with Matt Patricia!!! With no one taking attention opposite him!

This is a massive situational improvement for him. Better QB in the former, better offense in the latter, plus Davante Adams taking attention away.

Judon was a two time Pro Bowler in Baltimore who had never reached 10 sacks in a season. He was a good player, but he became a better player with the Patriots and now his contract seems like a bargain, even if it wasn't one at the time (mostly fair value). It's fine to spend, it won't kill you. Maybe they didn't have a glaring need for Edmunds, but what about Bates? They have no free safety on the roster. Again, it's fine if you don't value Bates at that money, I just really dislike this mindset that every time a team gives big money to a free agent they're being dumb and overpaying or compromising their roster building. A lot of times it works out. Are people making fun of Christian Kirk and Zay Jones' contracts right now?
There's more to playing the line than sacks. Judon was a beast in Baltimore.
What about Bates? He had a market and picked his team (31 other than the Pats, yes?).
Jalen Mills is a better FS than CB, imo, and he isn't bad at corner. Jon Jones can be a really good FS. Bledsoe stuck around last year because they saw something - another FS.
I very much implied that the bears WEREN'T being dumb. They had a big hole and have lots of money, and signed the best guy out there for that hole. Did they overpay? Sure. As the Pats did a couple of years ago. it's always a risk.

Do you think Adams is a decoy and Jimmy G will ignore better receivers in Renfro and Waller in order to throw for 1000 yards to his 4th option? Yeah, right.
Was gronk a decoy here at times? Was eldmman? The key guys get the bulk of the attention the match up on a teams 3,4th corner is what Myers will have.. and furthermore who knows who will be the QB Jimmy may have twisted his ankle walking in the facility.

SO, like, who's gonna catch the ball this year? lol

Draft Njigba already.....

Meyers signing with the Raiders is going to massively hurt the Patriots offense.

He'll average 80 receptions a season for 1,000 yards over the next 3 years.

You can ooh and ahh over the speed of whomever we bring in, but they won't have the production that Meyers does.

Huge FAIL from Belichick
He may very well have that kind of production in LV, but my belief is that we desperately need to add more dynamic YAC receivers to maximize Mac's potential. HOPEFULLY we will be able to do that. Juju SS I think would be an upgrade, as that possession slot guy. It is still SO early in the process. THOUGH I am bummed that my 2 top LB prospects Long and Orrecki (sp) went off the board.

Hollins is a free agent. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats make a run at him.

I would love Jeudy, I think we can do better than Berrios in the 2nd-4th round of the draft. The draft class isn't great overall but the strength of the class is in the slot.

I could also see the Pats not investing much in the position, and going with more 12 personnel/pounding the rock.

Meyers was the Pats #1 receiver in most of those games. If the Pats had Davante Adams instead of Nelson Agholor or Damarie Byrd (remember him in 2020 because I forgot all about him even though he was the Pats second most productive WR that year) lining up opposite Meyers, do you think Meyers would have been nearly as productive? A big reason why Meyers was productive here was because he was the Pats' #1 WR.

He is a good player, but I think you vastly overrate him. If he was a consistent 1,000 yard WR potential free agent, teams would have been falling all over themselves to sign him and he would have gotten $16-17 million a year.

You think Meyers is going to catch 80 passes for 1000 yards in the same offense with Adams, Walker and Renfro? Who is he taking targets from?
Has Jimmy G ever had even 2 WRs hit those numbers in a season?
Seems likely that Renfrow will either be asked to take a pay cut or he will be made available. I doubt that they are going to put that much money into the WR/TE position (with Meyers, Renfrow, and Waller all making 10+m yearly, in addition to Adams’ huge salary).

This is a nothing post. It means zero. I just want to know which deals those teams signed were bad. Which fan wants them to make bad deals? None. People are antsy to see them spend money and add talent to the team and you're equating that to a hurry to sign players to bad deals. Don't be cynical.
nly deal I've seen so far that seems like a huge overpay to me is McGlinchy - $87.5 with $50m guaranteed is a LOT for a guy with his ratings. It's a 5-year deal, though, which makes it more reasonable. Good player, never great.

I'd take a swing at Renfrow if he becomes available

We let Meyers go over 11M a season, after paying guys like Agholor and Jonnu big $$$ to do jack ****? That sucks man. That really sucks. Bill has something big up his sleeve, right?
We paid Agholor $11m/season for two years.

But yeah, this is shocking.

My answer to your question is YES. He'd be even more productive because teams are going to double Adams and even Waller before they send extra attention to him. He's going to be open constantly, and McDaniels wants his QBs going to the open guy. I tend to think it's TOUGHER getting balls if you're the #1 best guy out there because of the attention you draw.

Day one of free agency has been disappointing but there are still a lot of players left that could make free agency a success.

Tackle- Orlando Brown Jr., Caleb McGary, maybe Donovan Smith.

cb- Bradbury

safety- Poyer, John Johnson III

Linebacker- LaVonte David, Vanderbilt-Esch, Tranquill.

Receiver- Meyers, OBJ, Juju, Chark, Hopkins or Jeudy via trade.

Please respond with any players you would like on day two of free agency so I can add to my list of targets I’d be happy with on day two.
Here,Here on your picks Cousin(minus Meyers)
DW Toys

Replacing renfro with Meyers would be a horrible move.

People touting Donovan Smith as a possible signing, uh...

You should prefer we sign Isaiah Wynn over him.

He really is that bad.

Holds on every other play, jumps offside every 5 plays.
