Patriots Player Departure Meyers to LV Raiders

I am not that upset that the Pats didn't re-sign him. I don't think he was the best fit for the Bill O'Brien system. He isn't a quick slant, YAC guy. He was miserable running rub routes for McDaniels. He is a good possession receiver, but I would rather replace him with someone who can play the Welker/Edelman/Amedola role which wasn't Meyers' skill set.

I have been saying this for weeks. I was never high on re-signing him.

I get why McDaniels would want him because Hunter Renfrow fills the Welker/Edelman/Amedola role. He doesn't need that type of receiver.

If the Pats trade for Jerry Jeudy, all will be good. They could still potentially trade for Jeudy and Hopkins.

Very little that can actually be gleaned from that post.

I have a healthy skepticism of anyone who uses the “god works in mysterious ways” line, but that’s just me.
I'm not seeing it either. Anyone who signs with another team is not going to say, "I really wanted to go to this team, but the team that signed me will do for now."

This is about money. Anyone who thinks otherwise has an axe to grind.

First week of free agency on a Pats forum. This place is beyond miserable … about par for the course.
Then get out of the thread. You keep making the same post whining about people being negative. Of course people are going to be negative when we didn’t sign one of the only homegrown wide receivers that’s been any good here. He didn’t even get overpaid. It was a contract that we could have and should have matched for a player we know works in our system.

I’m reading his quote to say it didn’t work out because the pats weren’t willing to Match and therefore didn’t “want him” like Vegas. I’m sure he would have come back for that money. He and Mac are very close.
Doesn't look like it. He is talking about coaching . Isn't that a sarcastic slight on pats?

Well his replacement will take a season to learn the Pats over complicated system. So that's a positive.

Jakobi didn't want to be here...

This reads more to me as “Pats didn’t want to keep me”. NE could’ve easily matched that offer if they wanted to hold onto him. My interpretation here is they wanted to go in a different direction with their WR group.

I’ll miss the dude, he was a great Patriot regardless.

Not an overpay!
11/year is peanuts
Yeah, I hopped on here real quick and didn't really read the Tweet and just assumed it was high. The fact it isn't tells me he made the decision to move on.

And here comes the homers gaslighting. Can set your clock to it. Nobody is forcing you to view this thread if you don't want to talk about the team as it currently stands.

Maybe Josh will send Hunter Renfrow the other way...

Here's another factor with Jakobi: he's tough. A lot of WRs are just afraid to over the middle. They really are. We see this week after week in the NFL on all tams. We have a couple supposed rugged guys who turtle over the middle. Thornton is not that guy either.

Good luck replacing the guy that not only gets open consistency, but shows TE tendencies in his willingness to take a hit.

We now have major holes to fill at WR - slot in particular and OT.

I loved Myers' steady production and consistency and he seemed like a great team guy, but it maybe for the best if we can get a stud Edleman/Welker type slot receiver.

Can we not pretend this guy is the bastard child of Randy Moss and Jerry Rice? He's a nice player, and that's a fair contract, but he's not a true #1. Let's see how it plays out.

Mac Jones is going to try to prove he can be a top starter in this league... without his security blanket!!!!

I am not saddened by this news. Patriots need dynamic receivers on the field. Myers does not fit that description.

Put size, speed, and quickness on the field. More Bourn. Thornton in year 2, and Parker are better athletically. Sure Myers had some craftiness, but I'd prefer to see play makers.

He's not a true #1, at all. But he's a guy who at that price tag, paired with an impact guy, could have potentially been just as productive with another player who also might have put up a lot of production. Going to be interesting to see the type of year he has paired with Adams, as I'm guessing it'll be a good year for him. Just disappointing given the $$ and the fact they now need to replace him. I agree, we need to wait and see, but this one does certainly sting a bit.

Agholor was coming off a more productive season than Meyers has ever had.
And when he got it the belief was he would be our WR#1 which is also a description never used for Meyers. He worked hard and made himself a good WR but we need a GREAT receiver.
