Patriots Player Departure Meyers to LV Raiders

Three years for $33M total? That's a bargain in this market.
Crazy to lose him for that. Reiss was suggesting $15M+ and a longer deal.
I'm surprised he signed for that, but very disappointing to lose him for that.

That's not money at all, absurd that they couldn't offer more than that. Meyers isn't great, but he's been their go to guy since 2020 and would've benefitted from a true number one receiver taking attention away from him. Now we're taking away Mac's number one target on top of having a new OC. Makes no sense, continuity is important at that position.

That's the team I was most afraid of where I figured if anyone would overpay - it would be them. This definitely sucks.

This isn’t even an overpay. This is actually a pretty reasonable contract and I have no idea why we couldn’t offer that.

Ugh... Makes me sick... We gave more to freaking agholor... Bad business right there, not matching or exceeding that deal
Yeah exactly. I would understand not matching at like 17M a year but not matching 11M for the receiver that Mac trust the most makes no sense.

Either Hopkins and Jeudy are both coming or Bill doesn’t plan to play Mac Jones next year.

If Mac Jones is your QB next year, this move makes no sense.

Yeah that’s the team friendly contract that he should have got from us

I’m irritated we couldn’t match that, doesn’t seem like much.

But I will reserve judgement until I see what we do at WR.

I would've given jakobi that. I wouldn't be willing to sign him for 15+, but only 11, I would've signed him in a heart beat.

Now, we need a true wr. Go get Jeudy....

Probably decided it wasn't worth it already having Bourne, Parker, and Thornton already. Assuming that Thornton becomes serviceable(perhaps a big assumption) and if Parker stays healthy(a big if), they don't need a 4th WR @ $11m

If they instead use the money to get a true #1 somehow then it becomes even sillier to keep Meyers.

I didn't even really read the initial contract and figured it was high, but instead, the totals tell me he didn't want to come back.

Is it worse if the team didn't want him or if he didn't want the team.

That's not a lot of money...

I am always preaching "wait and see" but Bill's track record on WR sucks. With that said, you can count on one hand and have 5 fingers left over the guys who have left here and excelled. I would have thought they would have paid that, and I would have been thrilled with that number for that player at that position. There has to be another shoe to drop here, letting this player go for what looks like a market correction type number makes zero sense to me, on 3/14 at 10am. I guess we will see how the rest unfolds, but right now I am all in on WTF.

My guess is the team (including new OC BOB) wasn’t that high on Meyers and didn’t see a role for him, otherwise they would’ve done that contract without much hesitation.

Great guy. Great story. Good receiver. Athletically very limited.

The hand-wringing and consternation is pathetic. If they had given Meyers 10m annually, the usual crowd would be moaning that the team now has almost 30% less cap space to splurge on other players. Just the way it goes; no winning with some folks.

Only makes sense if we think we can upgrade the slot receiver position. If we get less production from the slot in 2023 this is a horrible move.

OTH maybe Jakobi was just done with NE.

This would have been a good deal for the Pats to match. I didn't want them to go to 15 or anything and 12 would have been the limit...just not sure what the plan is.

Please get a real #1
