Patriots Player Departure Jonnu traded to ATL

Reportedly for a 7th, if true basically a salary dump.
I would not have cared if the return had been an actual dump from our Art Blank’s golden toilet. Addition by subtraction.

The only downside to this is there aren't enough picks in the draft for them to have traded pick #283 to us for him.

What ???

Got nothing In return.. a 7th rounder..

Stop with this Baby Gronk nonsense.

You had baptized Michael Mayer as Baby Gronk a few weeks ago. Both are very good TE prospects, neither are Gronk or play like him

Arthur Smith knew how to use him in Tennessee so there's a pretty good chance he'll get some production out of him in Atlanta. One man's trash is another man's treasure
Yeah, interesting to see if the Falcons can make him successful.

I still think Darnell Washington is going to be very good and we could use his Blocking trait.
I could definitely see Bill drooling about his potential. I don’t think that Washington will ever be the receiving threat that Gronk was but he could perhaps be a Bavaro type TE (elite blocker, good but not elite as a receiver), and we know how Bill feels about him.

My guess is that he wasn't really deemed a fit for what BOB wanted to run and cost way too much so they moved on. However, he was their best blocking TE, all they have left is Henry who is a fine receiver but not much of a blocker. Very curious if they pursue an FA TE...
That's the interesting thing to me. Last season everyone said Jonnu Smith failed because Matty P couldn't work him into the offense. Now we see BOB took a look at the film and sent him packing to one of the worst teams in the league for a 7th. Hope Jonnu invested the money wisely.

I bet he did like Wynn got more than something from the Patriots for absolutely nothing.

There IS a TE that they can probably get in the 3rd or 4th rounds that intrigues me a LOT.

Zack Kuntz - 6'7 255, who ran a 4.55 40 with a spectacular 6.8 3cone time. He could be that blocking TE that can come in and be a big target in the red zone. The knock will be that he comes from a school that doesn't play big time football. Old Dominion DOES play Wake Forest and Va Tech. though the rest of the schedule is weak.

So not much savings this year but we avoid $6 m dead cap next year and will save the full $18m. That is great news. Also good peace of mind that this is the last year that contract will hurt us, and with agholor already off the books we can move ahead with the good moves from the 21 offseason and build off that with a clean slate.

I heard the same things about Jannu Smith when he was a FA...

Does this reflect money saved cutting Allen?

I think what really happened here is that the Patriots were angry when they didn't receive the 7th round comp pick they expected from FA losses last year, and since their entire draft strategy relies on having 11 draft picks, they had to make this trade, no matter how much it hurts to make it.

And our “long Regional nightmare has ended”! What a shame - we all thought of the reincarnation of the early “Gronk & Hernandez” and ended with the football version of “Wicks & Rowe”. Oh well, $3.7m and our first 7th rounder of the year gives us hope!!

He was at Penn State for 3 years and couldn't get off the bench. And PSU uses 3 TEs all the time. There's a guy named Brenton Strange, likely a UDFA this year, who Kuntz could not displace. I don't know what it is about Kuntz, but perhaps he is very stiff.

it does not hurt at all, its a good move to, as early as possible, admit you made a poor decision to give such kind of contract to a player that never came close to give you added value, you eat the dead money (its anyway gone) and you have freed up cap space for next year, the big cap hit shows just how bad of a deal it was nothing more

OTC has different numbers for a pre-June 1 trade. 37AEDA0C-0D97-4819-840D-983A1698BEF2.jpeg

I’m assuming that Miguel is correct.
