Jalen Ramsey

The Patriots have traded for and benefitted from premium cornerbacks before - think Darrelle Revis. If it gives us two years of premium play and Ramsey never sees the back end of the contract because he wants to get traded again, so be it. That's a price I'm willing to pay. Ramsey would bring this defense up to another level with his physicality and size.

Edit: Just saw that the Dolphins got Ramsey. It's gonna be a lot harder for Mac Jones against Miami, and that's a team that already gives us a headadche.
Yeah that doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Especially if you are only paying a 3rd to get him. Who cares at that point. It's more likely than not we cut the next guy we draft with a third in the same time frame that Ramsay would be here and demand a trade. You trade picks because you know what you are getting on a return.

Don’t worry I’m sure there’s an often injured CB from Southwest Missouri State who’s projected to go in the fifth that we’ll take in the first, who will sit next year
You made a funny.

Jalen Ramsey better hope that Diggs is traded because Diggs owns him. As does Davante Adams. Ramsey will catch a break that he's on the same team as Tyreek Hill and Waddle.

That's $35M - $40M of Dolphins cap money now owned by the Rams. Bigger deal than the draft pick or player.

So what’s the QB class of 2025 looking like?

That's harsh...we will take said 5th rounder in the 2nd!
Slowjuan Johnson, Ras-IR Dowling, Tavon Wilson, Cyrus 'the virus' Jones, take your pick! LOL It's a cupboard full of nightmares!

Duke Dawson

Maybe we don’t think Ramsey is a premium cornerback?
They thought your namesake was a premium cornerback in the 2011 draft so that doesn't tell us much... More likely they just didn't want to pay Ramsey the big contract.

Ramsey wasn't good in 2022. Career worst 7 TDs and a 98.6 passer rating when targeted. Ranked 33rd in EPA allowed per target and 34th in percentage of targets resulting in a TD or first down.

While the late rounder/undrafted slow and/or short Cornerback with attitude issues while be starting by the end of the year, making the pro bowl by the third year, then leave on some bloated contract while everyone pulls their hair out.

I always hate that Wilson gets blighthfully thrown into that group. He got a bad rap in his rookie year when he got beat on play action pass for a TD that cost us a game against Seattle. Well HOFer Troy Palamalu was beaten on play action passes in nearly EVERY game he ever played against the Pats and this kid is still getting killed for it happening ONCE. (BTW- IIRC at the end of the game the other S on the field was Nate Ebner, so clearly there were injury issues that game.)

Wilson was stuck behind McCourty, Chung, Harmon and Gregory just to name a few. The guy had a 10 year NFL career and was a starter for 4 years with the Lions and put up some decent stats. He was far from a bust.

Just wanted to put that out there, btw, of the 3 corners, Cyrus Jones was the worst pick. He just sucked. Dowling was hurt, and JJJohnson's career isn't over...yet Just over here.

You only mention the bad and you ignore the good. Not to mention that Tavon Wilson wasn't a bust for the Pats.
Let's ignore all the OTHER 2nd round picks who've been successful.

Successful 2nd round picks. :
Matt Light.
Deion Branch
Eugene Wilson - S
Patrick Chung - S
Sebastian Vollmer
Rob Gronkowski
Shane Vereen
Jamie Collins
Jimmy Garappolo
Josh Uche
Kyle Dugger - S
Christian Barmore

They had some mediocre talent in there:
Adrian Klemm
Bethel Johnson
Marquise Hill
Darius Butler - CB
Tavon Wilson - S
Brandon Spikes
JoeJuan Williams - CB

And yes, they had Busts:
Chad Jackson
Ron Brace
Jermaine Cunningham
Terrence Wheatley - CB
Ras-I Dowling - CB
Aaron Dobson
Jordan Richards - S
Cyrus Jones (Who had an undiagnosed heart condition that wasn't found until he signed with Denver) - CB
Duke Dawson - CB

In terms of 2nd round CBs, the Pats should be at 59% and 2nd round safety should be 77%.
CB - 0-2-4 = 16.7%
S = 3-1-1 = 70%

The question to ask is who was the person who scouted Wheatley, Dowling, Richards, Jones, and Dawson and made the decision to put them in front of Bill. Were they the consensus amongst the Scouts? Was it Caserio over-riding the Scouts? Did Steven have a say in it?

Non of this would’ve been said if he was traded here lmao that whole secondary just got an upgrade for a 3rd round pick

I reported some of his stats. Those stats were not good last season, that's a fact. I also think it's likely Ramsey still makes the Miami secondary better but they're not getting a top 5 CB anymore.

I am sure many here though some won't admit it really hope the Patriots made such a move to acquire Ramsey. We don't have any WRs on this current Roster who can legitimately run a route on him. Yeah we have problems.

The rumor mill said prior to the trade Ramsey wanted a new deal, despite having many years left on his current one… that he wants to be the highest paid CB in the league again.

If they traded a third and he is willing to play under his current deal, it’s not so egregious. If they made that trade, and now overpay him it will be.
