Jalen Ramsey

All high earning Free agents want to go to dolphins or bucs to minimize some tax dollars and for the weather .
Without Brady, going to be really hard to attract FAs to New England . Will just need to overpay.

The Pats window isn’t open yet but the Bills window is .. they probably want to respond to these moves in the division…

Dolphins got Ramsey !

We should have made a trade for Ramsey

This is a steal for the dolphins, they just guaranteed his 2023 & 2024 contract and they gave up a 3rd #77 & TE Hunter Long.

Bedard must be sick as a parrot....he was hoping the Pats would move for Ramsey.

You know, this thread actually aged pretty well for once. Lots of comments about his age and contract, and a few correctly putting his value at about a third.

(Long has played 90ish snaps in each of his two seasons. He’s basically irrelevant to the overall value.)

Pats better make some significant moves via trade and free agency if they want a chance to sniff winning the division.

Don’t worry I’m sure there’s an often injured CB from Southwest Missouri State who’s projected to go in the fifth that we’ll take in the first, who will sit next year

So get Ramsey and be left with 2m to fill other areas? (rookie class gonna cost 8m in cap)

You can always work the cap to your favor

They’ll restructure his contract too, but you have to fit the original salary under the cap before restructuring.

Just love to see him wrong (Bedard)

I thought we had 30+ available

Other teams make it work, but spending almost 33m on TE was not a wise decision

Believe he is referring to Miami's cap situation.

This move also uses up most of their remaining 2024 dollars. Only about ~$10M left. Patriots have almost $160M.

Hm... Yeah, that's tough. He's only 29 still, and doing an extension to lower his 2023 cap hit sounds nice, but it does set the stage for him to be "cranky" again in 2 or 3 years when he knows he's at the end of his NFL shelf life and wants one more big deal and wants to be traded yet again to get it.

You could structure your extension the same way the Rams seemed to have structured the last one they did for him - big salaries on the back end that are not guaranteed. That way, if he does seek a trade in 2-3 years (or falls off) you can move on from him easily. Give him a chunk signing bonus to spread over the course of the next 4 or 5 seasons. Then if he has to be moved mid-deal you're only dealing with a couple years of proration of that bonus and no salary which is close to what the Rams are doing now.
The Patriots have traded for and benefitted from premium cornerbacks before - think Darrelle Revis. If it gives us two years of premium play and Ramsey never sees the back end of the contract because he wants to get traded again, so be it. That's a price I'm willing to pay. Ramsey would bring this defense up to another level with his physicality and size.

Edit: Just saw that the Dolphins got Ramsey. It's gonna be a lot harder for Mac Jones against Miami, and that's a team that already gives us a headadche.

Maybe we don’t think Ramsey is a premium cornerback?
