Reports are the Pats may upgrade the WRs through trade (not necessarily Hopkins)

He was a number one receiver when he played last year
I should have qualified my remark to say that he is unlikely IMO to be a true #1 on a contending team, going forward.

Lots of people can be a #1 on a bad team.

I also want no part of Hopkins for the 46th pick. He'll be a 31 year old WR by the time the season starts; it's a short sighted move which won't bring a Lombardi next year and will then set us back in the long term. I remember when everyone wanted to trade a 2nd for Julio Jones, who was at the same point of his career. We dodged a bullet there. You never know how close these guys are to the end, and at best we might get two years out of Hopkins. We need to invest in youth and start stacking drafts back to back.

I'm on board with trading the 46th pick for a young WR like Jeudy who can grow with Mac, or a day 3 draft pick for a veteran, but I can't get on board with this.

How does reading a 2nd set them back? How many busts has Bill drafted with the 2nd round pick?

Vs a sure thing at receiver.

Worth a 4th and that is it. He is 31 and not great last year.

I hope the people who overrate Meyers see's that fact but they'll probably act like they don't.

That’s a lazy comparison. Meyers ran 368 routes last season (26p/g). Hopkins ran 324 routes per game (36 p/g).

A better way to think about that is that Hopkins had 80 less yards and 3 less touchdowns in roughly 1 less game. (44 routes )

Not as many as people like yourself believe.

If Kraft and co. Are serious about getting back to the show, they can’t take the Redsox approach to things. Mediocre skilled players isnt going to cut it. Elite Skill players on all the teams that made it high into the playoffs. The Patriots WR were scaring NOONE, dismal clown coaching aside. This needs to change.

Hopkins played 8 games, one of which he only played the very start of. Meyers played 14. Hopkins had 80 less yards and 3 less touchdowns in half the games is far more accurate than saying he played one less game.

trying to extrapolate games played based on routes run isn’t a better way to think of it, it’s a non sensical way to think about it. When a receiver produces, drives are extended, which gives them the ability to run more routes per drive (and thus more routes per game). If Meyers produced like Hopkins did last year then he would have gotten to run more routes per game because the drives would be extended.

Hopkins was near the top of the league in production in the games he played, Meyers was not.

Everyone has been complaining about not having a number one for years. Then when the Pats have the opportunity to get one people say oh I don’t want that guy I want someone better. That is a solid recipe to never be satisfied.

By that same logic, Meyers only played in 11 full games and 3 half games. ( Vegas, Buffalo, and Minnesota)

Routes run is a factor of scheme. Not offensive efficiency of 1 player. Yards per route run tells how efficient that player is with the opportunity.
The cardinals passed the ball about 120 more times that the pats. ( Air Raid Vs. Power Run)

Meyers YPRR = 2.18 (21st)
Hopkins YPRR = 2.21(18th)

Even comparing snap count would allow you to compare the players more accurately, but these players don’t preform in a vacuum. Scheme, coaching, supporting cast, all impact statistics.

Prime Hopkins is a more talented and accomplished player. At this stage of his career, I do not think he is an upgrade.

Receivers are not passive observers in how many routes they run. Perform well, and you get to run more routes than you othwerwise could if the drive ended earlier.

You’re right players don’t perform in a vacuum. You trying to adjust the data to per snap rather than per game is an attempt to compare those numbers in a vacuum…

Watching Hopkins 2022 highlights is like watching a Jakobi Meyers reel. Good player but not even close to the #1 he used to be. Much of his production was underneath throws against zone coverage. He’s still good, but he’s not a defense fearing #1 anymore. It’s very clear in the tape.

Quickly glanced over this and thought it said “Hopkins to Washington for a 7th!..” lol
