Agreed. And at one point the two TEs ran into each other with one TE injuring the other. And that is not related to coaching? Hard to swallow that.
But the TE coach doesn't call the plays or even designs them, that I'm aware of. I'm not defending Caley because the fact is he's been the TE coach for a while w/ very poor production from that group.

However, he was given trash to work with and then two FAs, one of which didn't produce even under McD. He doesn't buy the groceries or call the plays so I'm not sure we can 100% judge him. Or he really does suck ass.

That's what I'm saying.

I wondered about the HC stuff in relation to BOB. I figured he would want to be the future HC too so Mayo getting made the “heir apparent” screws that up. But obviously Kraft can’t actually legally promise that to Mayo… I would honestly be fine with either O’Brien or Mayo as the next HC.
When has a coordinator hire ever been based upon being the head coach in waiting?
If a coordinator candidate is a slam dunk HC hire, he would get a HC job.
If no one is offering him a HC job why would anyone offer him a future one?

I think Mayo is something special gut feeling.
I hope so. We all know he is extremely intelligent on the field and players love him. A true Leader
We will see how he handles the many other responsibilities and variables that go with HC. We will know one way or another because he is highly sought after. With the younger generation of players he has that like ability and can probably relate to and motivate them. Chemistry means everything
Hope he stays here. BB will be 72 in 2 years. I believe he will pass Shula at that point. So hopefully Mayo does not get poached next year

There’s a rumor that Kraft wanted to tap BOB as the next HC to replace BB once upon a time and perhaps BOB knows this if it’s true. I wonder if he initially wanted to come here because he figured it was his gig but now is miffed because Kraft is making promises to Mayo that he once made to him.

Obviously this is all just speculation and hearsay though.

While “there was a rumor” may seem like a compelling argument, my point is that no one wants to hire him as a HC. So his job offers are OC.
No one is going to offer a guy who no one wants to be their HC a guarantee they will be HC in the future.

agreed. there is a reason he is out of the league, its because no one viewed him as a HC so he went down to Alabama where BB's friend Nick Saban hired him to run the offense.

Bill Belichick was given the Jets DC job in the late 90's with the HC in line for him when Parcells retired. Of course that was ruined when Kraft decided to give Bill the Pats HC job which prompted Parcells to hastly retire and name Bill the HC of the JETE.

I thought that was Brady that wanted BOB to be the HC after the SB 52 debacle and Kraft stuck with Bill.

Yeah, I'm all for keeping Mayo and bringing BOB. Mayo can build his case as assistant HC. BOB can build his case by resurrecting the offense. If one succeeds, he's the next HC. If both succeed, great, pick whichever one BB and/or the Krafts think has an edge, and the other also becomes a HC, just somewhere else.

They're being given as good an opportunity as any at building their resume for a future HC candidacy. It's not like either currently has a HC offer from an NFL team on the table. No need to promise the moon and stars.

Yeah that's where I'm at also. Mayo, lead the defense. BOB, lead the offense. Bill only has a few years left and if one of you can prove yourself worthy the next few years then you can take the reigns. It can create a healthy competitive environment where both guys want to do their best for their future success. Of course, if they're both great and you can only pick one, you'll probably lose the other to another team but that's how it goes. At least if you lose Mayo, you still have Steve - and if you lose BOB, well, Josh is probably available again by then.

Actually Belichick was named HC while the Jets tried to avoid compensation for the Tuna.

It would appear the price of keeping Mayo was the promise that he succeeds BB. Why else would he cancel the Carolina HC interview?

Mac 40 time: 4.83
Mahomes 40 time: 4.80

So Mahomes is a tick faster, but essentially the exact same. Your point is still valid.
He ran 4.79 at his pro day. He's plenty fast enough, is the point.

ability from the pocket is still what wins championships.
The "The Patriots need all-pros at every position" crowd crowing for a "mobile QB" are inferring Mahomes/Allen guys that can do both. Because you know those type guys are readily available to every team and only because the Patriots suck at drafting is the reason why they don't already.

49ers 2021 5th round pick safety is all pro this year. we have had some decent succes but nowhere near top 10 in drafts in last 3 years . we need to hit a home run in draft this season to make up for all whiffs in drafts prior to 2020 and the huge failure of 2021 FA class.
