I have ALWAYS thought that Bill OBrien was the natural choice for OC and this years "experiment" (failed, btw) was just a holding action, waiting for BOB's contract with Alabama to run out.
BOB is 53 and in the prime of his career. He already has positive HCing experiences in both college and the pros. One would THINK that he would ULTIMATELY still want to be a HC SOMETIME in the next 5 years while he is still in his prime. I also believe that Bill isn't going to want an OC who will be a one and done guy. BOB is going to have to commit to a 2-3 year deal.
Then there is always the carrot of being the HC after Bill retires (3-4 years would be my guess) which will be fine except the same promise might be given to Mayo to keep him around.
What I THINK will happen is this.
BOB - gets the OC job with a 3 year deal and the assurance he will follow Bill IF he wants to.
Mayo will get the DC/associate HC title in a 3 year contract - this will make Mayo a more attractive HCing candidate going forward. I also believe that Steve will STILL make the gameday calls for a defence Mayo coordinates.
Bill will also make an effort to sign McCardall and Klemm to assistant coaching positions as well Klemm and Yates will handle the OL, Patricia moves upstairs to the Ernie Adams role and Judge will move back to the ST's And the Patriots will try and pretend that this year's coaching "experiment" never happened
